    The Dearth of Stealth Games

It's really sad to see that there are no real stealth games outside the Splinter Cell series, and of course the dormant Thief, that focus mainly on stealth. Am I just missing something or is this it? Is there anything on the horizon akin to either Splinter Cell or Thief (and SC itself seems to have moved away from a pure stealth gameplay).

Someone doesn't play a lot of games.

Metal Gear (the original stealth game)
    Tenchu
    Hidden & Dangerous
    Hitman
    Manhunt (avoid the 2nd one)

    And that's just for starters.

Snake Eater is probably the most involved of the Metal Gear series in terms of gameplay, because you have to wear camoflauge that best conceals you, so you're often switching.

Manhunt 1 is great, although a bit repetitive. Manhunt 2 would've been better if it wasn't so blah.

If you don't mind playing a stealth game through an abstract minimap drawn on top of a third person view, check out Death to Spies

Beats me as I don't care for the series, but the new Metal Gear is due soon. And I can't play it

There's a PC/XBOX game called Cold War that is fun.

Chronicles Of Riddick had it's fair share of stealth.

I'm still waiting for a 1st-person perspective ninja game.

Word to that. Where the hell is it? Where the HELL?

    It makes. So. Much. Sense.

Hitman is the best stealth series ever. I hate sneaking around, subterfuge is so much better it's not even funny. Metal Gear games would last an hour if you could just wear a genome soldier outfit.

Agreed in full. It'd be like an Eastern-flavoured Thief.

Needs visceral 1st person melee combat Dark Messiah style for when you are spotting/cornered, a host of ninja toys and we're talking. Assassinate the princess/general/warlord by infiltrating the castle/war camp/fortress ftw.

What are these idiots thinking - it's right there on a plate. Everyone loves ninjas.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Talk about a game concept that's ready to roll. Just scratch the surface and it's all there.

There's even a famous medieval ninja-thief who did assassinations and thievery, Goemon, whose life-story is the stuff of epic to boot ... his last task was to assassinate the Shogun himself, and legend has it he made it all the way to the Shogun's quarters and there was an epic fight where he was finally caught and boiled alive to save his son.

I was already contemplating how much work it would be to do in Darkmod. It's not just new skins, objects, and textures ... you have to have the toys, and the melee has to be frenetic, yeah, visceral like you say.

I've considered a Dark Mod total conversion too. A lot of work and perhaps better done in Source even - Dark Messiah's melee was pretty good fun. No where complex enough though.

Melee in that game was pretty simple though. Just whack whack oh look the bad guy's in TWO sprites now.

    Stealth was also non-existant.

Nobody said anything about it being stealth-based.

No, nothing like the FUCKING THREAD TITLE it was responding to, lol.

Just kidding ... But really ninja without stealth would suck.

In your defense, you don't see (m)any first person pirates, cowboys, or vikings either, which would also be cool, but stealth isn't as essential for them. There's really only so many situations when stealth gameplay is really essential.

Speaking of Death to Spies, I wonder when the sequel's coming.
