--July 26, 2000 - Actual content!
Okay, so only two months have passed. Fortunately, things are proceeding nicely. Levels are expanding daily, and some very cool ideas are, hopefully, on their way. The big news, I think, is finding a voice actor for Candle, our main character. Cyan Kuo, on the TTLG boards as Cybernide, is a Thief player and has a most excellent voice for the part.

The way things are, basic scripts and such about the campaign can change without warning. This voice file of Miss Kuo was a preliminary voice over for the first mission, but things have changed, so I thought - what better item to put up for public display? Er, listening. Whatever. This is also available in the Downloads section.

Also available there is another intro graphic, by Adi Feldman. His is quite nice as well, but unless there's a way to make random entry graphics, Mr. Sallee gets dibs. On view in the Art section.

In the meantime, my fellow level editors and I are hard at work. As usual, we can always use new people on the team, so if you'd like to help, feel free to mail me.

After much skulking about and the general standby status of this project for so long, we seem to be really getting somewhere. I've gotten quite a few letters about positions, more than I expected. I've been responding as best I can, trying to organize the whole shebang. One of my other projects is winding down, so I'll have more time to work on content then... I hope.

And as you might have seen, we have fan art! I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl. This title graphic, and an expanded version in the Art section, are by Derrick Sallee, aka Doppelganger. Much nicer than my original one, which probably used about 3 colors total.

So check back soon - I promise it'll be updated more often than every three months.

(As for Looking Glass ceasing business... I'm *still* stunned. But from what I read, unless Thief 2 had sold better than fat-free cheesecake at a supermodel convention, it seemed inevitable. But certainly just because the name is dead, doesn't mean the people are - I'm sure the artists, programmers, and designers of LGS will all work their magic somewhere else.)

Welcome to TTLG's hosting of the Candlefire Thief campaign. Candlefire started as a fan-fiction-in-development, and with the release of Dromed and the amazing fan response to it, I wanted to turn the story into a series of missions. Originally, I hoped to use the Dromed for Thief 1, but with Thief 2 right around the corner (including a Dromed for a much improved engine) the campaign itself will be for Thief 2: The Metal Age. But since it's a ways off, the first mission or two will probably be released for Thief 1.

A lot of work has already been done, but lots more is ahead. If you want to see who's doing what and what positions need to be filled, check out the Team section. The Art section will contain some images, mostly sketches, models, et cetera. The Download section will have, duh, downloadable missions and anything else related.

The missions themselves will include map (but probably no automap, unless Thief 2 makes it much easier) and an intro movie. Once finished, there'll be a finale movie to download. This mission set is unique in that Garrett is no longer the main character. The gasps, grunts, and chuckles will be redone with a new voice actor. The storyline is independant of The Dark Project, although the old factions will still be around.

I'll keep a presence on the Thief forums as well, gathering impressions and opinions. I've seen dozens of 'netside projects slow from lots of activity to nothing, and finally disappear on the wayside, so I'll be realistic about getting this thing done. I'm as busy as the next grad student (ugh). Any help will be, of course, greatly appreciated.

And most of all... let me know what you think!
