Sajon Junior Member posted May 29, 1999 02:41 PM I've got the hang of the editor, I think. But what I'm trying to figure out is how to make an actual building with walls that have volume. If I want to make the exterior wall of a building which I go through to get to a room (like in Return to the Cathedral), how do I do it? Do create the walls as "fill_solid" around my "fill_air" rooms, or is there an easier way? Any ideas? Trimfect Junior Member posted May 29, 1999 02:49 PM There are basicly two ways. Either you create a huge air-brush and then fill it with solid-brushes, or carve the rooms out of the world with a air-brushes. I believe the latter is the correct way. Use air brushes to make streets, rooms and other places. Leave most of the solid areas as part of the original "SolidWorld". -T. Sajon Junior Member posted May 29, 1999 03:02 PM That's what I suspected. I was just looking at some of the Thief levels and they seem be carved out of the world. However, it is still confusing. There don't seem to be any "rooms" at all. The only thing I can see is objects. As I said before, I am assuming they carved this out, but I don't quite see how. Ginga Junior Member posted May 29, 1999 07:20 PM An excellent example of this sort of level editing is Unreal... it uses the same idea of carving out the level from a huge 'worldsolid'... So you use fill air for the majority of your level, scooping out rooms, streets, sewers etc, then use solids to put in detail... Uncia Junior Member posted May 29, 1999 07:36 PM I have that problem with it too, how do I make DromEd show all the details with the ready-made missions that ship with Thief? Objects aren't much help I'm afraid... The'yre not filtered, I checked that. Perhaps that "only me" filter mentioned in the tutorial... Will check again. Raven Member posted May 30, 1999 11:37 AM LG removed lots of information only used by the editor for the shipped thief levels (the ones on your cd) to get the levels with stuff like air brushes you have to download the "unstriped" levels where you can get.... somewhere I can't remember try www.3dfiles.com for more information. Warning the lot of them are about 39Megs...I won't be downloading them this year on my 33.6 EvilSpirit Member posted May 30, 1999 02:23 PM Remember that the ordering of brushes in "time" (not the order you create them, but their 4th dimension, which you can change after creation) is important. Some Thief levels primarily carve air spaces out of solid, but it's more typical to make successive "carvings" and "buildings" (as it were). E.g. to make a building, place an air brush for the space the building will exist in, then a solid brush for the building, then an air brush to hollow out the building shell, then solid brushes for the interior floors and dividing walls, then air brushes for doorways... you get the idea.
