    System Shock 2 Redux Model pack released

    I just posted the first beta of my model pack to StangeDeadFellows

    Hope you guys enjoy it.

    And even for you purists... you can download it and then install Rebirth over it to get rid of the gerMany stuff but still use all my true to original stuff (I will be later releasing a completely true to original pack)

    Andway... the strangedeadfellows post ( http://www.strangebedfellows.schwarz...opic,97.0.html ) has the full details on the mod... but the gist is that it replaces almost everything... even the maint/security/MP bots. Plus a nice new pipe wrench, and decently detailed hands on almost all the weapons now.

    I'll be sure to check it out next time I'm playing SS2. In the meantime, could you maybe post some screenshots of what the models look like in-game?

    I'm afraid, but there seems to be something wrong with the mod.
    After loading up recdeck (basketball room) SS2 either crashed or slowed down so drastically it wasn't playable anymore. There was one female corpse in the room.

    Shodan's lair was fine. Nice work on the models I've seen so far (femal corpse, gestapo-shodan, new wrench).

    EDIT: The bug was spotted on RecDeck and Eng. It's not limited to one model as it seems now. Though certain models seem to work fine: Hybrids (both types), Droids (not all types checked), Shodan, Midwife.
    Corpses ae definitely a problem. Also monkeys and assassins seem to slow down the game.

    It might be only the corpses after all...check them first.

    This sounds awesome; I'm going to have to try it! I'll let you know if I get the same bugs with the models that Kolya has reported.

    This is drop dead impressive.....a rare gem to see someone materialize out of thin air with just about everything redone and replaced.


    Have you considered less common model improvements like worm, egg, psi reaver, psi reaver brain, other obscure models.

    Were all the corpses that gave slowdown female?

    The monkeys are just the rebirth ones... one of the few Rebirth things I didn't change. And the Assassins I tested... but I'll test them again of course.

    I had this same bug with the female corpses before (only the ones that weren't wearing hats though, strangely enough), but I thought that I had squashed it... I never could figure out the cause... it happened after I deleted a group (the hat) from the model I initially made for the female. My workaround was just to delete all but one poly of the hat and hide that poly inside her head... more than likely I just mucked up and included the old files instead of the new ones.

    Looks like it is back to the bug stomping... +gets out his can of RAID+

    Hehe, well I'm not out of thin air to modeling in general... I was the chief modeler/skinner for the Half-Life mod series 'They Hunger.' Before that, I did pixel by pixel for Duke Nukem 3d and Dark Forces 1.

    I actually reused a lot of my They Hunger material in this pack... the male corpses are actually the They Hunger Sherrif rescaled/skinned, and the shotgun is based off the They Hunger shotgun mesh.

    I honestly hadn't thought about the worm or the egg... not sure what kind of mesh map they use though.

    The texture work is seriously impressive. Such a shame that the maximum resolution is only 256x256. The models could do with more polies, though. The ones I checked were about 1600, so you could easily double that and be fine. I'm not too sure about making all the Germans Nazis, but I suppose that's an easily-recognisable stereotype. It would be just as bad to give them handlebar moustaches and plumbing overalls *has watched too much cheesy German porn*.

    The new bots are great, really well done, but I don't care much for your new droid. It looks like a mini version of the Rebirth Assassin, but with constipation. The new assassin looks a bit too much like a guy who should be welding some joints down in Engineering.

    As far as bugs go, the corpse bug also affected the headless body in the Engineering elevator room. Shodan's legs aren't rigged quite right.

    I'm not sure if it's on purpose or not but the new Droid appears to be half the size it should be. You may have made them look like cute little children though, I'm not sure.

    Haha... honestly, the Nazis came about from having played the gerMany mod while drunk just after watching Nuremburg, Hart's War, Enemy Below, and Downfall (Best German film I've seen since Fritz Lang's 'M' BTW, highly recommended if you are into movies about deep psychological and sociological issues). Yes... the local movie rental place had a WWII sale, haha. Anyway... it is one of those 'cool ideas' that one has while drunk and is too stubborn to let go of once one sobers up.

    Thanks for the compliment on my bots ... they were a real PITA to get working, so I'm glad that you like them.

    The droid looks like the rebirth assassin because I used that mesh rescaled to the proportions of the original droid (it looked really close to a droid, so I made it into one)... the only thing that doesn't match the original droid is the head. If you think I should, then I will redo the head to be the IG88 style cylinder with one offset eye like the original... anyone else have opinions on that?

    I know the assassin looks like a normal guy... that is because he looks like a guy in a jumpsuit with a cobra commander (2nd season) style mask and a Geordi Laforge visor in the concept art I based him off of. I'm thinking that I'm going to make him a little more athletic shaped and put utility pouches on his belt (they are in the concept art, but ommitted here)... shorten the claws to be in keeping with the original, and add some kind of decoration to the front of the jumpsuit. Unfortunately... I have no idea what to put on the jumpsuit's front! The concept art had no decoration, and the triop logo is already on the arm (per the art)... so I'm not sure what to stick there.

    I think its just the chunky cargo pants effect at work....a cyclist's physique might be more what you're looking for, with smooth clothing and a nimble posture. I wouldn't worry much about the decoration. Assassins, aside from looking more mechanised than a human assassin in some subtle ways, are essentially stealthy and their clothing should just be minimalist so as not to draw attention.

    Goodnews...

    I isolated the corpse bug... looks like when I squashed it the first time I missed two of the models (corpfem1.bin / corpfem1.cal, headle.bin / headle.cal). I also somehow managed to leave one of the textures for the headless model out of the zip file.

    Just delete those four files from the mesh directory of the mod, and you should be able to play. I'll try and get an updated version of the mod up later tonight once I finish squashing the bug.

    Do you mean the protocal droid or the Security/Maintinence/MP driods?

    The protocal droid is the same size as the original (which was a little smaller than all the other humanoids).

    The sec/maint/MP bots are all a tad shorter than they should be because I ran into a bug where they would sink into the ground up to their ankles for no apparent reason. I could never figure out what was causing it... so I wound up shortening the feet to make the bug less obvious

    Could you also put up a seperate download that includes only the fixed models for those of us on dial-up?

    Just took a look at the new models, very nicely done. The bots are super great....

    the most striking thing i noticed though is that the thumb seems more like an amputated pinky finger. The sleeve is good, just a bit beefier of a hand with more muscle tone would be more consistant with eldron's hand which i think is bang on....but the only thing i noticed, which is good cuz it means everything else is good enough to at least escape my keen eye

    I had actually made a MUCH nicer hand originally... but alas... it had too many polys and crashed the game (aparently weapon models have a poly limit of some sort... I'm not sure but it is between 2000 and 3500 polys somewher)

    I also am not totally happy with my thumbs... I'll likely be upgrading them sooner or later.

    Thanks for all the support guys, you fellows make all the work worth it... now to decide what to tackle next... more replacements, the 'true to original' editions of the corpses and shodan, or improvements to the weapons... perhaps an ALIENS pulse rifle to retire the old assault rifle... what do you guys want to see first?

    I'm still not completely happy with he pistol. It moves nicely, the hand is good but that worn out look (I think from Cage's texture.) ... It's just not very scifi, especially since every pistol looks like it had been stored in a barrel of radioactive waste the whole way to TauCeti V.

    I liked the laserpointer and flying bullets that came with Legerde's Pistol but that pistol seemed somehow out of proportion and missed a few details.

    I still like the original pistol best as it's silvery and new and looks scifi enough. But I'd like to see it overhauled with more detail (if possible) and a laserpointer and/or flying bullets.

    BTW: There is blood in the trashcans now!
    EDIT: Forget it...it's the usual stuff...I'm getting a bit paranoid here.
