I'm willing to bet they won't bother with GOG. Please prove me wrong, Bethesda.

Well all three Interplay Fallouts are back on sale on Steam, they've even patched in the high resolution fan-patches.

However they carry a Higher RRP than what Interplay was charging, $15 USD vs. $6 USD.

Am I the only person in history who just couldn't get into the original Fallouts?

Walk. Walk. Walk. Stand next to rat. Shoot at rat. Miss. Shoot at rat. Miss. Shoot at rat. Kill. Walk. Walk. Shoot at rat. Miss. Get bit by rat. Die.

Just didn't seem very dynamic or compelling.

    Sorry if this is off-topic!

I got Fallout 1 and 2 last night on Steam for $4.99 each. Well worth the money. I Still have the original games but steam versions are worth it.

@SD: No, I had issues with the original Fallouts as well. I enjoyed FO 3 and New Vegas tremendously, however. Different strokes & all that, I guess.

I loved Fallout 1/2, as well as Arcanum. Sure you shoot some rats in the beginning like in most rpg's, but you get to shoot much better stuff as the game goes on. Plus the stories and characters are great. I liked Fallout 3 and New Vegas (which I thought was better, at least some of the expansions), but there is a certain charm to these old school isometric games that has never been fully duplicated.

And your thoughts on the game beyond the first 5 minutes in the very first area?

I think that was fairly common practise in older cRPGs. You start off in a cave or forest somewhere flailing uselessly with your Rusty Sword at lowly enemies, either performing a mundane task for a local innkeeper, or just trying to find your way out. (then at the back you find a chest with 5 silver pieces and a new hat, huzzah!)

I only ever played a little bit of FO1, shortly before FO3 came out, never finished the main campaign but I think I got pretty close to the end.

Honestly it didn't get much better, combat-wise. At the end it was just running away from huge melee dudes for 2 turns, then shooting at them for 1 turn, then repeat. And since you had to wait for every single enemy to make a move before a turn was over, this all took fucking aaaaaages.

Fallout did do a lot of things right though. Having a certain amount of time to complete the main quest was a very interesting idea and added urgency, and I liked stumbling across all the little stories going on out in the desert. Plus the music was cool and the game had a lot of personality.
