    Fallout 4 Mods

Firstly, this is how you enable mod support in Fallout 4 in these pre-GECK days.
To enable modding in Fallout 4 you will need to add the following line to the Fallout4Prefs.ini file below the section marked [Launcher]:

    bEnableFileSelection=1

You will need to change the following line in Fallout4.ini:

    sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\
How to install mods with Nexus Mod Manager:-

    • Enhanced Blood Textures - cool higher res blood textures, from the author of the similar mods for FO3/NV/Skyrim.
    • The Long Silence - STFU at last whiny bitch Marcy Long and depressed, whipped c*nt Jun Long!
    • Realistic indoor lighting - as it says on the tin, good complement to Darker Nights and Pipboy Shadows. Removes the fake "sun light" from indoor areas.
    • Craftable Ammunition - what it says on the tin. TBH this mod is too fiddly and time consuming for my tastes but the other popular Craft Ammo mod ATM is known to be buggy and break scripted sequences.
    • Craftable Guns and Weapons - Again, self-explanatory.
Crafting Workbenches - Craftable Weapons Armor Clothing Ammo Junk renders the aforementioned ammo and weapon crafting mods irrelevant.
    • Configurable Power Armor Fusion Core Drain - Because batteries IRL don't run out after only 20-30 minutes.
    • PipWare UI - Display more items per inventory page; mouse wheel scroll per page instead of the game's default per line. Essentially it's 2015 and console game UIs are STILL being optimised for luddites with SDTVs.
    • Working Food Planters - Craft those food planters seen in Graygarden. These let you plant crops anywhere, not just in the dirt.
    • New Zealand Laser Kiwi Flag - now you can witness the John Key-National government wasting millions of our taxpayer dollars in the Commonwealth Wasteland too!
    • Fallout 4 Configure tool. Just a wee program to do the basic ini tweaks for you. (e.g. FOV, Mouse Acceleration, Resolution, etc)
    • Full Dialogue Interface. Removes the console UI and adds in your actual responses. Mass Effect dialogue wheel be gone!
    • Lowered Weapons Lowers your weapon to a resting position when not in combat. Increased immersion!
    • ENBoost. Stutter remover/performance improvement mod (much like the Skyrim mod).
    • Water Enhancement Textures (WET). The FO4 version of the excellent water mod from Skyrim.
    • Better Item Sorting. Much needed quality of life improvement.
    • 1 day vendors money reset. Wait one day for vendors' money to reset instead of the default two days.
    • Realistic Survival Damage - Fallout 4's "Survival" difficulty by default takes the shitty Bioshock Infinite "1999 mode" method of balancing. I.e. turn enemies into bullet sponges and reduce damage dealt by the player. This mod increases player dealt damage by 3x, giving you a more realistic survival experience, rather than a Borderlands bullet sponge one.
    • FPS Dynamic Shadows. It dynamically reduces the shadow draw distance in order to maintain a specified framerate. Shadows in FO4 are unoptimised and probably the largest performance hog in the game outside of God rays and inefficiently compressed textures. Modders have to fix Bethesda's crap engine as usual.
    • Realistic Weapon Sounds. Why game designers' always use fantasy gun sounds I have NFI (even Bohemia do with Arma!), they usually sound like wet farts. Realistic weapon sounds bassy and feel like a satisfying punch to the gut.

    • FogOut - remove the crap distance fog that Bethesda uses to hide their drab, low quality art assets.
    • Rich Merchants - now vendors can afford to buy all of your junk loot.
    • Power Armor Fast Exit and Enter - Speeds up the laggy animations that play EVERY TIME when you enter and exit PA.
    • True Storms - Asset overhaul of the in-game weather storms, makes for amore atmospheric exploring.
    • Disable Minuteman Radiant Quests - Prevents Preston from automatically flooding your quest log with more procedurally generated Radiant Minutemen quests every time you hand in one. Ditto for the Freedom Radio broadcast.
    • Dead Body Collision - a simple immersion increasing mod that applies the game's physics dead bodies. Now you don't just ghost through them. Make sure that you put the ESP at the very bottom of your load order to get it to work properly.
    • Killable Children - Eliminate those immersion breaking moments during emergent game occurrences where monsters/raiders/etc will attack say settlements and kill everybody except the immortal children.
    • Better warning for settlements being attacked - in the vanilla game an easy to miss HUD pop up will appear when your settlements are being attacked. This is mod fixes that.
    • Floodlight - because IRL maglites don't have the shitty range of a meter or less.
    • Improved Map with Visible Roads - a more legible world map than the vanilla one.
    • ScratchMade weapon higher res retextures - Bad ass looking weapon retexs from veteran Fallout modder Millenia. Watch this space as he retextures more weapons over time.
    • Simple Intersection - in the settlement building mode this mod will let you have slight object clipping (without resulting to console commands). Eg this is great for plopping down fences.
    • Longer Power Lines - Self-explanatory. A common sense mod for the settlement building mode.

As of the v1.2 patch Bethesda have tried to kill support for ESP-based mods for the time being. Here's a workaround:-
    BEST workaround for working mods:-
    1. Download F4SE and subtract to your game's root directory.
    2. Use NMM to make sure all of your ESP plugins are enabled.
    3. Now only use f4se_loader.exe to play the game. Don't launch the game through Steam since it's the FO4 vanilla launcher that f*cks everything up.
Bonus: Set up NMM to execute f4se_loader as a custom executable.

Easiest workaround to getting ESP/ESM working with v1.2 of Fallout 4:-
Just launch your game from NMM v0.61.3 or higher, that's it.

    http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/news/12680/?
Yesterday Bethesda released a patch for Fallout 4 which disabled mods from being run by resetting the plugins.txt file that contains all of the .esm/.esp entries for plugins that you had active. It had no mention of this in the release notes so people quite happily had Steam update their copies, only to find that when they went to boot up it said that the game had changed since their last save.

Today we have released NMM 0.61.3, this release will once again allow for you to run Fallout
4 directly from NMM with all your mods and build order intact.
Big thanks to our elite developer Fabio for all the effort he put in to get this up and running so quickly (when he was meant to have a day off may I add!).

Just an FYI to the 95% of the planet still using 5:4 monitors, this very useful tool was what I used to be able to run the game in 1280x1024. Utterly ridiculous the hoops you need to jump through just to get a damn game to run in a normal resolution.

Now I just need to fix the invisible lockpicking

Hmmm, now as a gamer, why would you do that?

I have a perfectly usable 19" monitor that I bought in 2013, when all you could buy was 5:4.

If I want to lose the top and bottom of my field and view, I'm more than capable of taping pieces of paper over my screen rather than shelling out a three figure sum for the privilege.

You are saying some truly crazy shit, and I can't really tell if you actually believe it or not or are just messing around.

If not, you should probably do some research on widescreen monitors and how they work. And check the receipt on your monitor too, I think you meant to say 2003.

    22 November 2013.

A 19" widescreen monitor has a smaller screen area than a 19" normal monitor. That isn't crazy, that is a mathematical fact.

you aren't wrong, but you will have to get used to the world not caring about 4:3 or 5:4 anymore. I personally hate 16:9 - using 16:10 which is ok after a while (also perfect scaling with SS1), and is supported by modern games.
