Got NewDark up and running, and played about an hour of the first act. Very cool! My Thief skills are a bit rusty after all these years, needless to say. And to think I used to know how to create missions...

I retired from Thief around the same time NewDark came out. Now you have to educate me...Should "New Mantle" be on off to play the missions of this day and age?

I would recommend having it on for any NewDark mission unless the readme explicitly says to disable it.

There are. Some items used to solve puzzles are found in different places.

That mostly only applies to mission 2. There are also fewer AI on lower difficulties.

How do you disable music? I usually turn off music in all my games - I find it distracting.

If you must, delete the snd/mus/ folder. That will also eliminate all the music during the intros and cutscenes. The music was all very carefully selected to coincide with the story and scenes, though, so I would humbly submit that you won't enjoy this nearly as much without it, even if you usually don't like music in a FM.

Just wanted to use Photoshop tonight... Beautiful FM. I loved the second mission.

Thank you very much for creating this mission! It was a pleasure to complete (slowly in order to savour it).
In addition to everything else which has been pointed out: cutscenes, polished and well balanced graphics, long/dark story, careful map design, voice acting, background music, outstanding read-ables ..... there is something else I loved about this mission: the snow.

One thing that makes thief so immersive and mysterious and tense is the fact that almost everything happens at night, often in dark or in shadow.
In your missions, you added another element: snow, which gives me a warm, cozy feeling especially this time of year.
The snow inspired me to make some screenshots.
I wont show a screen shot of "The Ritual" (possibly the best scene ever in a Thief FM) because I dont want to spoil it for anyone.
But here's some outdoor screenshots including snow.

    Awesome!

What a wonderful campaign! Thank you so much, Yandros.

I am constantly amazed by the quality -- and fun -- of the fan missions. My friends (and kids!) are always asking me what games I'm playing. They snicker when I say Thief 2 FMs. If they only knew what they were missing!

    Kudos again.

It's was very funny to stumble upon cross references like Deckard Cain, or the hammerite guard's manual for "Proper Speech" - I had to laugh very loud at that one. Who knows into what else I'll run during my current, comprehensive play. A "Ready to serve, my lord" or "Your soundcard works perfectly" hidden gem, perhaps?

Thanks everyone for all the comments. It means a lot!

There are plenty of things in this which are references, although not many which will be as broadly known as the Diablo ones. In fact little in the project was actually made up. There is a document I need to finish and publish which goes into detail about where most of the names came from, and little "did you notice?" things throughout the campaign, as well as explanations for some things that you may have missed unless you've played it multiple times and connected all the dots.

    crash

mission 1 ends, mission 2 loadout screen is used, when play mission is selected, game crashes to Desktop. I am fully patched & running 1.25.

I pointed you at a potential solution in the Mission 1 thread, not sure why you also posted it here.

Just finished the campaign, guys. You made this weary taffer come back to Thief after some years, and what a wonderful experience it was: funny, frightening, exciting, immersive. Congratulations for finishing it and doing such a great work. And thanks for still being here after all these years working on this amazing game.

PD. the epilogue scene was a gem, as well as the allyway/truck touch

    A Supreme Achievement

I've finished the campaign now, and I can say that my assessment after the first three missions has not changed. This is one of the supreme achievements, if not THE supreme achievement, of the Thief modding era.

The ability to tell a compelling story has been raised to a new high bar. The use of in-game scripted sequences instead of movies is brilliant. The truly cinematic flair given them is a mark of real mastery of the game engine.

The level of detail and care lavished on the settings is unsurpassed. Unnecessary things--like being able to look into the mouths of face-shaped spigots and see down the pipe, done purely because it can be done, not because it needed to be done--just illustrate the joy in little things which this campaign demonstrates in abundance.

The game play itself, while classic, requires the player to demonstrate a range of skills. In not every case is it possible to just frob everybody then explore unimpeded. The understanding of the joy of secret finding added much. That not every secret was merely about loot was an added pleasure.

I, for one, did not mind the retracing of steps in areas already explored since it was integral to the plot.

Finally, the overall professionalism and polish of the campaign has never been surpassed, even by Looking Glass in the originals.

To all who were involved in the development and testing of this masterpiece, the Thief community stands up together in an ovation of awe and gratitude.

I would like to add for context that I have been playing Thief since its beginnings in 1999 and have been on this site from the beginning, though under a different name for much of that time. I have played all the great missions, so I think i know what I'm talking about. I do not use Dromed myself, but I appreciate the work of those who do.

Wow, I haven't played any Thief FMs in a long while until I came across this one a few days ago. Congratulations on your FM. I'm at the very beginning, which is quite good, and it sure is creepy dealing with that thing in the basement at the apt. building.

Well, I've just finished playing the campaign, and I loved every second. Some very tense moments throughout. Loved the cutscenes and scripted parts. Well done to Yandros and all. A masterpiece of FM creation. Excellent work folks!

Played the whole campaign on Hard so far. I knew what would be in the basement as soon as I got to a certain line in the diary, but it was still pretty spooky. The twist that she wasn't the culprit was good too.

Liked the mansion mission the most. Felt kind of like Truart's house. Got stuck for a while on Mission 2 because I thought the key to the bedroom would be hidden more than it was, so I assume it's not going to be so easy on Expert.

What a great campaign! I can't imagine the amount of effort that must have gone into that. 13 years? Holy crap. Well done indeed. I'm forever amazed at the dedication of the Thief FM community.
