    Assassin's Creed series

I know there are disparate AC-related threads here and there but I just wanted to start a separate overall series discussion, since the series will turn 10 years old later this year (holy crap) and a new one seems to be in the works for 2017-18. I only really played the original Assassin's Creed back in 2008 when it first came out for PC and was a huge deal at the time. I enjoyed it immensely but for some reason did not follow up with any of the other entries. Now, all these years later, playing through each title in chronological order, I'm just having a blast. Sure it's repetitive but it's also gorgeous and fun. And I love the mythology. I was amazed to learn there were ten main games released so this upcoming one would be the 11th and rumor has it it will be set in Ancient Egypt, which could be something unique. Wonder if anyone else has tried binge-playing the series or am I the only crazy one. I did it with Splinter Cell, so this is not a new thing for me.

I guess it depends on what you'd term a "main game", since a few of them received side entries.

The first game had 1 on the PSP (Blood Lines) and the second game had 2 (Brotherhood which was fantastic, and Revelations that was average).

By main I mean only the games that came out for PC:

    01. Assassin's Creed
    02. Assassin's Creed II
    03. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
    04. Assassin's Creed: Revelations
    05. Assassin's Creed III
    06. Assassin's Creed III: Liberation
    07. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
    08. Assassin's Creed Rogue
    09. Assassin's Creed Unity
    10. Assassin's Creed Syndicate

That's not all of the ones that have come out on PC. There's also things like Freedom Cry, and the 3 Chronicles games.

Anyway, have fun playing through them. I've only played 5 of them. My fave is AC: Syndicate.

I've enjoyed most of the series greatly (even the admittedly weaker instalments like AC3 and Unity), but even with the stronger games in the series I got to a point where I was all ACed out. I can't even imagine bingeing on the entire series.

I thought "Freedom Cry" was part of Black Flag as a DLC. And I do have the Chronicles Trilogy but they're more like bonus games, since they're 2D.

You kind of hit a soft spot on me, because I have been thinking about binge playing certain series for so long, and it seems it will never happen again. I wanted so bad to play gta5, silent hunter 4 and 5, thif 3 all over again, Richard burns rally and some others but I Feel so overwhelmed about work, my side gig and living on my own along with other personal stuff that I barely get to touch the game console let alone thinking of buying a PC again.

Sort of feels like the gamer part of me is dying and I can't stop it. Sorry for hijacking your thread, kind of, but... Resistance is futile? Or is there something that can be done I am not seeing?

Having done a few series play throughs myself, I highly recommend it.

Makes for a change of pace in the games you play. That said I've yet to fully complete a total play through of all of the games as some can span quite a numerous amount of games.

    Series attempts so far:

    * Command and Conquer / Red Alert - Completed. I couldn't bring myself to play more than an hour of the 4th entry so stopped after that.
    * Might and Magic - Played through 1-7. 8-10 left.
    * Y's - Played through 1-5. Many to go.

I have been away from gaming myself for a long while until recently. Other than Dishonored, I don't remember another game I played this decade. So I guess I'm making up for lost time.

Is that the old command and conquer from the 90's? if so, impressive how can people still enjoy such vintage games today!

Ev0luti0n_, I think you'll find that most posters here have been playing for a good long time and are big fans of some games from the '90s.

    Hell yeah. Dosbox ftw .

I love going back and playing the old C&C games. Red Alert 2 in particular is great fun. It's the same as going back and playing Pac-Man or Doom or whatever (in terms of retro vintage stuff).

Plus COME ON, those cheesy FMVs are fantastic .

I love going back and playing games from decades gone. It's good to have a bit of variety with your gaming. There are so many games that we play once and never again. Never hurts to give something a replay, many years later.

I did meant to be negative with my comment. I just get a wave of nostalgia, install some games and then I am never able to play more than a few minutes, and I always get a bad feeling.

Well everyone's different and there's nothing wrong with that .

For me I like mixing things up between old and new games.

Hey a dev here. Game looks great . I assume it's 100% inside the animous (sp?) and no outside bits. Shame as Black Flag did quite well in those bits.

I also miss the back story reveals (when you'd complete the logic puzzles) of what Absturgo / the Templars were getting up to throughout this alternate history. Fascinating stuff.

I didn't work on this, but I'll pass along your compliments

Can't comment too much on what's in ACO, because NDA. Also I've been on a different project for a while now, and a lot has probably changed since I worked on it.

I found the Desmond stuff to be a bit hit and miss. In the first game it was done well, 2nd was half half. Was done VERY well in Black Flag.

Well, I, for one, am glad to see the modern day nonsense go. It was a cool sci-fi idea in the first game, but began overstaying it's welcome more and more with every entry after that.

Also, loved the Thames-section you worked on in Syndicate, Kroakie! Is there perchance a Nile-section in the upcoming game?

Freedom Cry was a PS+ game this month so I gave it a whirl, and a few hours later I'm at 58% completion. And y'know what, I'm enjoying myself. I've had enough distance from the AC games that this kinda thing is fun again.

According to How Long To Beat the main story is only a bit over 4 hours long, and that suits me fine. Never did finish Black Flag because it just went on forever.

Finished Freedom Cry. It's fine. I probably should get back to Black Flag one of these days. I got pretty close to the end I think, before I gave up on it.

edit: started up Black Flag again, finished the mission I was on, and then the credits rolled. Turns out the mission I'd stopped on a year or two ago was the last one. Ok, guess I can scratch that one off the list then.
