If there is a north quater and a south quater, wouldn't it make sense that there was an east and west quater?
(even if they are not mentioned in thief)
I'd like to figure out the names of all known districts, and what buildings are in what district... could you folks (who probbly know Thief lore much better then I do) help me out? I managed to find the names of these districts....

: Downtowne
: Hightowne

Nice work, Sypha!
According to the Keeper Theses, there is a part called "Wayside", if I recall correctly.

Thanks Syph! I took a few liberties and placed the unknowns where I thought they would fit well. I also added some locations from COT & CoSaS. This text-map is not for reference purposes, but for some other hopefully much more fun purpose. I now invite… no, URGE authors of fan missions to post to this thread (this thread exists in both the general discussion and the TEG forum) telling me if they want their FM areas included in this map, and what and where the places go. Authors of fan-fics are urged to as well. In fact, anyone who has input or suggestions are welcome.

That's spire...
The City
: Dayport
- Necromancer's Spiral
Accoring to Gilver's shipping label, Rampone Dockside Shipping is at:
: Docks
- Rampone Dockside Shipping
1369 Winston Avenue Bay#7933
Wayside Dock District
So then, "The Docks" and "Wayside" are the same thing.
At Rampone's Dockside Shipping, we learn of such fine establishments as:
- Cid Capezza Inventions
- Venik Kilgor Weapon Smithing
- Lady Angelica's Experimental Apothecary
- Sven Mynell Steaks
- Lord Porter's Fine Art For Sale
- D. M. Gilver Exporting Company
- T. M. Blackheart Recording Studio
- E. B. Bramrich's Accounting Service
- Noah Jerm's Lensgrinding
Gilver makes clear that these can count as business addresses and not merely as storage units; still, it's possible that some of these businesses are established elsewhere in the City as well.
Those, and also the streets:
: Marketplace
- The Market
- Graveyard
- Crippled Burrick's Pub
- Hill Street
- Sparrow Street
- Helena Way
- Whipple Street
- Old Gate
At Rampone's we learn that Taft Avenue is a street in Shalebridge.
: Shalebridge
Shoalsgate, no?: Sholesgate
- Sholesgate Police Station
This is the Docks, as mentioned above.
: Wayside
These, and also the streets:
: Old Quarter
- De Perrin Street
- Rubin Street
- Market Street
- Cathedral Street
- Auldale Street
Plus the buildings of the cloister at the old Cathedral:
- St Yora's
- St Jenel's
- St Tennor's
- St Vale's
At Rampone's we also learn that Richmond Boulevard is a street in some unspecified overseas locale, and Also overseas or elsewhere are Lesser Hrabotha and Throvia (or in any case some place--Throve? Throw?--that would have "Throvian" as its adjectival form). Likewise, Bafford's antique dealer receives antiques from Bohn, which may be a place if it's not a person.
Outside The City
: Outside The City Limits
Yes, but the entrance should be placed somewhere in one of the known, formerly affluent districts.
: Under The City
- The Bonehoard
And there, the following sites:
- The Lost City, Karath-Din
- The Library
- The Colosseum (Arena)
- The Great Temple-Palace
- The Temple of N'Lahotep
- The Royal Tombs
- The Tower of Fire

Not necessarily. For example. Connecticut has an East Haven, a West Haven, and a North Haven, but no South Haven.Originally posted by jono456:

Since the City is on a shoreline and since it has a North quarter and a South quarter, it actually makes sense that it would be missing at least one of the other two
Since there's an Eastport, and a New Quarter, I would guess that the City lies on a shore with water to the east and that the "New Quarter" is the westward expansion (which is why there's no "West Quarter"--the names "North" and "South Quarter" probably arose earlier in the City's development, and the newness of the new district to the west was probably more important than the westwardness of that new district).
Assuming a sun in the southern sky and rising in the east, it would make sense for Dayport to be further to the south along the short than Eastport is. Wayside, then, would be an industrial zone upshore, far from the fashionable Dayport.
So then:
North
Quarter
--Old-------------------- |~~~~~~~~
New | Quarter | Wayside|~~~~~~~~~
Quarter | Downtowne | Eastport|~~~ sea ~~
| | Dayport|~~~~~~~~~
--------------- South
Quarter

: Old Quarter
- Haunted Hammerite Cathedral
- The Abandoned Keeper’s Grotto
Deary me, we need to pay more attention in forum classes, methinks!
You'll need to add:
-Dr. Evil aka Foolster's Secret Lab.(close by to the Keeper Compound)
-Karrots' Super Secratively Secluded Secret Base (Quite close to the Cathedral, but you need to look for a 'secret' alleway, find a convenient burrick, stand on it and mantle into the base via a vent. shaft)
-The Serpentyle Torc House
-Dr Cray's Medical Practice
-Zombirella & daughters Dressmakers
-Bloodstone Prison
-The Winter Tunnels beneath the Cathedral
-Cragscleft Prison (don't worry about the upper levels...there's nothing much important round there)
-The Cathedral Graveyard
-About 10 Foofie Headquarters.
And last of all.....The Alarus Extension!

Just in case you need places to fill out the map, in my fanfics I mention:
Lord Forridon's Manor- Since Wayside is looking a little sparse, this could go here. However, if you think it's unsuitable for a wealthy man to be situated, it could be moved to Hightowne or somewhere similar.
The Green Burrick Inn- This can be in Shalebridge, a suitably grubby part of town.
The Dark Arm Thieves' Guild- A strictly minor guild, also in Shalebridge, close by to the Green Burrick.
All for now....btw, anyone know where the Baron lives? He must have some sort of large castle to keep his armies in, and I'd guess it;d either be in the centre of the City or somewhere outside it away from the possibility of attack. If it's an old castle/house/fort/whatever, it would probably be built nearby to a river or sea, perhaps on the inside of an ox-bow meander shape (like a sort of really curvy 'C' formation) or backed by high ground. And I'm sure there are dozens of places like Moth that haven't been included yet. The Bogeys'll get you if you don;t include them...

Funny, I've always had an interest in the maps of Thief. I once made my own map of the city that pinpointed all the key locations (yeah, I'm a geek, I know). I've wondered about the Baron's castle too. I think it would be in Hightowne, one of the City's richer areas. First Bank & Trust would probably be either Downtowne, Hightowne, or Eastport, I think. (Dayport has a bank already- Unless they're competing banks?)
Thank you so much for that Naart!!!
Before I got to the bottom of this thread I was beginning to fear that everyone had forgotten what the OLD QUARTER actually was. Perhaps some people need to read the Fanfic: life in the OLD QUARTER. Just a suggestion...
I love this idea. We should have an actuall (on the parchment picture) map drawn. Though I must admit Grund, yours is very nice. But we need all the details and names.
Unfortunately my mission is not out yet, but if it was it would be located in the unknown region of town. Perhaps the "wilderness" or "fronteer" But we need a name for the WHOLE place, like the country or something that everything is located on. Is it just England?
Sneaksie Thiefsie should have some input here.

Sneaksie Thiefsie should have some input here.I think that all of the City districts from the game have been mentioned already, so I don't think I've much to contribute:
Dayport - I think that the Bonehoard might be here, but that's just a guess [dockers refused to work at night because of the moans from there?]
Hightowne:
Primma Donna's apartment [not far from Opera House]
My fanfics, however, list the following locations:
CityGate
Oldbridge:
-Larnseng's Mansion
-Wealthy Merchants
[I imagined Oldbridge to be an early part of the City, and built close to the Docks - the docks also being early, seeing as how they appear to be a major industry in the City.]
Prisongate:
-Hammerite Library
-City Prison [or one of several]

Sneaksie Thiefsie, I haven't had the chance before to thank you for your work in the Keeper Theses. I really enjoyed reading them, and I still refer to them from time to time.
From the somewhat disjointed information available in the missions of TDP and TMA, you have provided a rich and surprisingly detailed description of the Thief environment. This has made me enjoy Thief more than before.
The only thing missing is a map highlighting the many areas, which is the subject of this thread.
For our newcomers, if you are a Thief lover, you should read the Keeper Theses on ttlg.
Thanks again![]()
Digital Nightfall, does this thread mean a map will be prepared? I sure hope so, because it will tie things nicely...
Don't forget that one entrance to the lost city is in downe towne, ad the other is underwater near the docks, meaning the two locations are probably quite near each other.
The posh parts of the City would be positioned so they didn't catch the smell of the poor areas. Since there is probably an offshore breeze, this would influence the positioning.
On Markham's isle, if you look through the gap in the cliffs you can see either the sunrise or sunset.
Pay careful attention to the moon, it could mean that the City is in the southern hemisphere, which may influence a few things.
The old quarter was probably built before the rest of the City.
Is the City on a natural river or estuary? I don't think there's any reference to a river flowing through it, but the City does have a network of canals.
Angelwatch is a bit of an anomaly- the buildings on one side are much smaller than on the other side, where they practically qualify as skyscrapers. Angelwatch is evidently a fairl new building, as is Soulforge. The Mechanist seminary was converted from a Hammerite cathedral.
The cathedral in Undercover was built after the old quarter, as the Hammerites moved there after the disaster.
The pagan village won't be too far from Constantine's mansion- he'd want to keep in touch with them.
The Bonehoard and the Old Quarter both feature burrick tunnels.
I'm sure there is, I seem to remember perhaps in Bafford's or Ramirez's manor a reference to someone ending up in the bottom of the river if they crossed someone else again...Anyone else remember anything of this sort?I don't think there's any reference to a river flowing through it

BAH! Does it take a simple Shockling to point out that there IS a river!?!
This doesn't mean that the river runs alongside the City. It merely means that rivers are within ready access of the mob.page_0: "Commissioner deNavan -

There's clearly a very large river either flowing through the city or to one side of it in several of the animation brieffings you get before a mission. There's one with a ship on it.
And the keepers table in the Old Quarter has a map ingraved upon its surface and there's a river marked on that flowing through the city.
