New skins for NPCs in TDS

    Hi, everyone!

Here are some new skins for some present and some new characters in Thief Dadly Shadows. These textures were made by me but all of them are based on original TDS textures. And all these skins suit the original mesh.

And a big thanks to Thief The Dark Fate, Force and Clearing that I can show all this stuff to you.

Skins for Mechanists, Aristocrat Ladys, and City Ladys were made for "The Cabal" - fan-made Thief Deadly Shadows mini-campaign.

Mechanists' skins appeared because I created a new TDS character named Mechanist.

The purpose of creating Aristocrat Ladys was to force original TDS noble ladys look more rich. Widow Moira is changed too and looks like a Bride now.

As for City Ladys my idea was to force original TDS city females (Barmaid, Merchant Female, Peasant Female) look more young and less rich.

Skin for Garrett The Lady was made for CrackedGear and his TDS FM Silence Part 1. The purpose was to force the player to look like a pagan woman without changing Garrett's mesh.

    I HOPE YOU'LL LIKE THEM!

Good!! This is just what I was looking for.. By the Builder, this is manna from the sky!!

Maybe the mechanists needs some more little adjustment. In facts, they wear a golden shield in the abdominal part. Plus they were without helmet, less Brother Cavador, and some other technician.

    Good work!! 10 plus!

I think I'll use all these new stuffs soon.

There are Hammerite workers that could be adapted I'm sure.

I think they look totally awesome. I like how Tiens has gone in her own direction with them and added some more variation.

Pretty awesome. Is the female Garrett also a bodybuilder? The Mechanists textures make me so want to rebuild Mag2 in T3, but it has taken so many years building it in Dromie....sigh...

If really Eidos Canada will come out Thief 4, then I hope they will provide us with an appropriate editor

Is there any way to have these skins next to the original (or JohnP) versions? Since "change skin" doesn't work like with the static meshes, would we have to create these characters as new archetypes?

Yes, but be aware of a new Mechanist Class, I am working on it We have discussed this before: a new AI Class gives problems when the AI dies; in facts they remains ... straight

I believe they have some...well, I don't know. I thought I had seen some property or so handing them over to the ragdoll system.

Anyway, great work Tiens. If you have managed to develop a little system of how you create these new skins, would it be worth a tutorial? Or is it just obviously replacing images and custom artwork which I could do myself if I had the talent? And how much would we have to pay to you for a Landsknecht skin? I know it would require a new model with these puff sleeves and missing boots (almost everyone in TDS wears boots, strange, ain't it?) to make it exact, but something with the slits would already do.

The exception to this logically being the ratbeasts, who are wearing old man loafers.

Add Ragdoll Tag or Ragdoll Physics (can't remember the exact name) to it's properties. They won't fall over without it.

I was wondering if there is a way to use these skins, other than Tiens' method of renaming them with the names of existing skins. Does anyone know?

Yes, and they are so ugly Beleg, are you sure that you need of these misters? I remember I study them in history, but I don't know where (in what age)...

I'm worried to say you that maybe it's the second one :/ Maybe you could work on the silhouette of the AI static meshes via 3DS Max, but for the dessigns, you cannot do other than remanage it or recreate it, and of course reskin the AI, that's why I needed of a designer for my Mechanists (and I need still now, since I want to create the abdominal golden shield).

    Beautiful skins, Tiens!!

They are mirrored at the Circle & Darklurker:
    Mechanists Textures
    Aristocratic Ladies Golden Textures
    City Ladies Textures
    Garrett Lady Pagan Blue Textures

I'm looking forward to seeing these skins in some FMs!

Something between 15th and 17th century. They look a little different from fantasy knights, but I think they'd fit into the Thief universe because their reputation is not the best I believe. Mercenaries and the like. And speaking of it, if we had enough armour parts to make real plate armour soldiers, I'd feel like birthday and Christmas on the same day.

Wow! I am impressed! These skins are very beautiful. I like them all. The golden pattern on rich people is so attractive. Thanks for your efforts!
P.S.: I am so impatient to play The Cabal!

I'm afraid I have no chance to write down my method in step-by-step form - it will be as big as Photoshop Tutorial is. In short, all I do is just studying original TDS textures very carefully, cutting out a huge number of pieces, collecting all these pieces into one multi-laired file and then experimenting with colors, patterns, Photoshop filters etc. Actually I use only 3 programs - DDS Converter for converting formats, Photoshop for making artwork and T3Editor for experimenting with NPCs' figures. I'm sure everyone who has enough time can do the same.

I think you don't need to pay me for it as far as it's for TDS. By the way I'm already interested in this experiment. If I'll have anything worth publishing, I'll show it, be sure. Sorry but I'm not ready for 3D modeling yet - I'm still studying it and the end is too far.

Well, it was just a suggestion. If Flux comes back soon and is still interested in this idea for his village map I tried to hammer into his head, Landsknecht skins could come in handy.

Historical things (clothes, weapons, whatever etc.) are my métier... erm... hobby, so if I can help anyone with that I'll gladly do.

Beleg, I am interested! If you could send me by e-mail (or post here) pictures of clothes (weapons, historical things whatever etc.) that would be great! I really need material like that.
