Worst thing that could happend: no original voice-actors.
Think about Thief without BennyOR without burricks. Thief 2 and 3 was without Burricks tough.

I just thought of "Keepers of the Caribbean" but I don't have the time to provide a photo composition as well.

worst thing i could see square enix messing up on (looking at their record, they're pretty good with final fantasy and such) would be using save points instead of save anywhere, not using garett's voice actor, making a new story with a different protagonist, or incorporating endless pointless minigames unbefitting of the thief genre (they have done that before)
Beyond the Japanese who love Elvis and pink cat-like things with large heads and zombie eyes, does anyone really enjoy playing these stupid damn mini-games? What is the point of them?! Is it filler just because they can't actually sustain a plot-line throughout the full game, or do they actually think people have fun plowing inanely through some bit of nonsense; all while paying a shitload of money to do so?
The horrifying aspect is the reality of the popularity. Junk food for the brain and rainbow pixel-porn.
You're following me around, aren't you?
I don't know, J. Are these things seriously popular, or are they only "popular" because we keep getting fed them by lame production studios--like really bad summer movies that are waste of electricity, but people watch them any way because they are so desperate for something to do instead of wandering around shopping malls.
I can't imagine someone holding a box in their hand and actually going, "Ooooo...this has Dance, Dance, Revolution, too!"
People buy backpacks and stickers depicting this crap in college, and draw the characters in their notebooks and think it's the greatest.![]()
Conditioned Consumer Zombies.
"...must buy...must spend...must have Hello Kitty..."
Yuck.
iPhones cost how much?
That's it! My nightmare. They'll replace Dewdrop with Hello Kitty!! And then you must dress it up to gain points.
Though it would be a better weapon against the Mechanists than Dewdrop. If I was a Mechanist and would see Hello Kitty floating in mid-air I'd kill myself!
For T4, my greatest nightmare is that people will judge it without trying it, and work to create a lot of FUD, like this thread.
Trying means buying, borrowing, pirating, and not everyone needs to play to know if they like it or not. Some people know how to research and save themselves the trouble. I will know from what the common complaints are, and what the common praises are, from people I trust who go ahead and try it. I will know from adding those observations to watching gameplay videos. Knowing myself, I will know if the game and I are compatible. Since I will not be able to play it anyway, due to lack of a proper system, I will have no choice but to observe carefully, and may purchase it just to have it when I finally get a system I can play it on. If EM makes a great Thief game, I will purchase it to reward their efforts. Other than all that, I have no compulsion to buy any game, especially if it says "Thief" on the label but the soul is missing or mutated too far from the heart.
Now if the story resonates with me, and/or other aspects besides playability issues are intriguing enough, I will probably buy it for those reasons. Playing TDS is a chore for me, but the things I like, and the fact that it was the LGS devs who worked for Ion's last Thiefy gasp, it was worth my money.
Precisely! I'm not going to buy it just to have it. And if there is any indication of ridiculous little mini-games, a bad story line, excessive violence just to have excessive violence, or an utter deviation from the feel that made Thief what it is, then, regardless of how big a fan I am, I'll give the new title a miss and go buy a good book.
Oh I have.

Feels like needing a rape kit afterwards.
That'd be pretty bad. Howz about this fellow - nightmare or improvement?
OR...
Some raving genius decides to emulate Alien vs Predator (two great tastes that taste great together?), and combine game franchises - thus...
Thief and StarCraft --> ThiefCraft (Garrett against everyone. Humans - no big deal. Zerg - gas arrows? Protoss - water arrows short out shields?)
Thief and World of Warcraft --> World of Thief (lotsa Garretts skulking and robbing everything in sight...kinda like politicians, but with better manners)
OR...
Thief and NFL Madden --> Thief 2009 (every year Thief is re-released with minor tweaks...except it's basically the same game each time, just with a different cast each year)
I dunno... The more I look... Something kinda hot about it.
Worst: Garrett will be sensitive and "deep" and will probably fall in love. Seriously, they already ruined the Prince of Persia trilogy by turning the protagonist into a emo-looking faggot to appeal to the masses, so it will probably happen here also.
Well that was unexpected.
I think he meant over-contemplation and brooding, and being full of angst as a result of doing so.
Beyond a return to Soulforge?
The developers not providing the tools to make proper fan missions. OMs are fantastic. FMs are what keep me coming back to Thief. To this day I'm still playing Thief Gold and Metal Age FMs.
