SHTUP mention in UK PC Gamer

I'm sure that some here have seen this and it's not worth rushing out to buy it just for this, but the Shock Texture Upgrade Project got a mention among the "50 essential mods" article in the latest (Nov 2009) issue of PC Gamer. The mods mentioned are in no particular order, in fact they're divided into mod types so they're not trying to rank them.

Although brief, it says: "A visual refresh for one of the greatest sci-fi horror games. Not to be confused with System Shock 2 Rebirth, which replaces the game's models with admirable but stylistically jarring efforts, this sticks to what it's great at: redrawing the game's original art exactly as it would be at higher res.".

Nice to see it mentioned and in a positive way.

    Nice, thanks for the heads-up!

Any chance you could post a scan?

Wow, that's an honour. And so well deserved. Congrats to ZB and all contributors.

Sorry about the quality, it's been ages since I've actually scanned anything. The faint diagonal lines in the background are on the magazine page and not a scanning artifact.

    Congrats guys.

I just reinstalled for a coop runthrough for the first time in years and plan on using SHTUP for the first time. I'm very excited about it. Thanks for all the hard work.

Yeah, it's been a long, long time since I've really played through. I went through around March or so with my brother, but we did it completely unedited. Even kept in the damn weapon degradation.

Before that was probably around 5 years ago with G'Len. But I'm going through in a week or two on Lan with JossiRossi and I figure it's a good time to really give the girl a proper play. I plan on using SHTUP, Crion's Impossible Mod, Tacticool's Weapons, and maybe a couple other things.

Probably not Rebirth though, I never really cared for his artistic direction.

I've occasionally thought it would be a viable project to take the high-poly meshes Cyberblutch created, and tweak/retexture them to more closely resemble the original models. Remove the claws from the cyborg assassin, that sort of thing.

You could call it the AfterBirth project.

The cyborg assassin model is the main model from Rebirth that bothers me, it looks too much like a robot and not at all like a cyborg, let alone anything resembling the original character concept as seen in SS1.
(My solution is just to delete the assassin files.)

    That's not a bad idea.
