These things actually make me think of what it was like when I played Thief for the first time--back then, I didn't know what was possible and what wasn't. I didn't know you couldn't shoot arrows from ladders or the water until I tried it first. I thought guards would notice when items went missing and would come looking for me, so I missed a lot of loot items that were in direct eyesight of guards. I thought blackjacked guards would eventually wake up again, so I tried to put the bodies in places that would be hard for them to get out of. I didn't know you could back stab haunts, and I *hated* the Cathedral mission in Thief 1 for a long time until I figured that out (and now haunts are my favorite type of undead :-) ). Heck, I didn't even know you could light torches with flares until just a couple of years ago!

Back when we all played Thief for the first time, none of us knew what we could and couldn't do in the game, so we had to think on our feet and try different things. After 10 years of playing FMs within the Dark Engine, we're all experts now at how Thief works, so we just take the game mechanics for granted. Missions like Zontik's turn that on its head and bring us back to the early days when Thief was new and nothing was yet assumed to be "impossible."

Now, imagine a player who doesn't know that that's called "camvator" trying to search for a solution? How many people know that the reason for getting stuck might be being crouched?

sorry to report I also got stuck on the camvator sequence, I forgot all about it until I read CheeseshireCat's post

I got through on my third attempt, it seemed to help if I tried to keep the beastie in the centre of view as the camvator followed it, and when I got stuck turning from side to side, looking up or down would sometimes result in a little more movement

otherwise superb if fiendishly difficult in places, thief should be hard

I miss 20 in loot, an idea

Just wanna say thank you to Xorak, WhiteFantom and Zontik for trying to help with my crash problem.
It turned out that Zontik was right - bodystashing caused it. Even though I really tried to avoid it - due to the warning in the readme - I got sloppy in one place...

Zontik fixed my save-file within a day and I could play on and finish the mission.

    THANKS!

Thanks Zontik Quite a Walkthrough and I can now see where I missed those last loot items!

Missed the sneaky one (20 loot) in the water tower chest - wonder if that's the one Lady Jo was looking for?

I'm stuck. I have gotten past the front gate to the castle and into the Engineer's room and found a key in a coat. I can't get anywhere else though.

In the briefing text of King´s Story there was mentioned an easter egg in mission 1. Is that correct? I didn´t find one there...

Also what about this statue on the roof in mission 2 with the word: PHONO on its back? Some significance there?

The coolest thing I did find: a spot right in the beginning of mission 2 where you can choose if you want to play with blackjack or not!! Did anyone find that too?

It's a reference to the graphics shader.

That's one. Now find the rest

  19. #719
Finished, sort of, with just a tiny bit of help from the walkthrough!

Halfway through the final cutscene, a message pops up, 'body discovered' and the fail screen appears...

I feel like the guy in the stable, the one behind the door, not the Doctor.

Black and blue and battered all over!

since i don't wanna miss this one, i was forced to edit it via dromed.

i deleted the guy that throws water in the garden and now the game runs like a charm.

now i will go in the castle.

hi guys, I got stuck and I can not go forward.
Game on Allegro. I do 3 questions:

    1. As I open the secret room in the bedroom of the king?
    2. Where is the phonograph?
    3. Where can I find the record?

    thanks
