    [Minecraft] Official TTLG server

Let's officialise things a little bit.

I host a Minecraft server on the domain swankybonitaknickers.net which has become the de facto official TTLG buildy-thingie. As edwardhugget put it in the general Minecraft thread, it "has a really good community spirit", some of the buildings there are admirable and for the time being, it's griefer-free (not MrDuck-free, though. Beware!). Simultaneous population reached a milestone of 10 a few days ago.

So, first of all, feel free to come visit us (PM for Address) and build your own designs or contribute to the existing almost-fully-functional alpine village. For the existing members, feel free to post your screenshots and stories in this thread. I figure we could leave the other thread for more general Minecraft-related discussion.

The server is a virtual dedicated machine 'boasting' a constant 5Mbps bandwidth, excellent availability and, thanks to some very special members' generosity in this thread*, a grand total of (soon to be) 1 280 MB RAM.

I'll be implementing a Google Maps-style Cartograph-style export, along with better backup and admin options, and maybe a webpage with real-time statistics. Expect more news soon.

ENOUGH TALK. LET'S GET TO YOUR PICKAXES (and screenshot keys).

*The great 2010 MINE-4-RAM fundraising drive harnessed, on 2010/09/25 00:30 GMT+1, a total amount of 185, leading to a total of 176.17 after PayPal took its share. Each 256MB share was 71,76.

Sorry for everything impressive that wasn't included (a ton of stuff), but the town is just spreading way too quick for me to keep up anymore. Also Dresden mentioned that he might make a video.

    The Old Quarter.

    Slinker's Graveyard.

Bob_doe_nz's and Dresden's farm, the best place to get lumber.

Woodpigeon's amazing ship and some of the shore buildings.

This makes me laugh, so it's here. Make me laugh and I'll post your picture too.

Dethtoll's Mall. It's already full, sorry.

    The underground coffee shop nearby.

Malf's Tower and his magnificent underground gardens.

Tonamel's underground manor. Watery wonders, even without working buckets.

The Library. Read the signs, they're great.

MrDuck is here to stay, and so is his genitalia.*

40 euros coming your way, son.

    B-)

    Hope this helps.

    Can I have ops now?**

*Actually I'll just build the one penis and then go on for more normal buildings!

Wish I could donate, but I'm a poor bastard.

Also, someone found a zombie spawner under the Old Quarter, which I find hilarious.

Donated €20 as well. Given the good spirited nature of the community on the server (not to mention the incredibly impressive work that people have done) I consider it more than worth it to keep this going.

    Matt - Shush you

In any case, I'm feeling extremely generous...here's 35 more euros, this should solve all our problems alongside with all the other donations, right?

Just call me Ducky Claus (sit on my lap, bitches!)

You people are awesome. We now have enough money for both RAM shares, and a few euros more that I'll leave for now. Next month I'll be putting the complement to get a third share
Special mention to MrDuck who is a generous, generous man. I know he tried to buy me, but I love him all the same while being unyielding on my opinion that we don't need any ops yet. We'll see*.

On 2010/09/25 00:30 GMT+1, the total amount donated was 185, leading to a total of 176.17 after PayPal took its share. Each 256MB share is 71,76. Once activated, I'll have to reboot the server completely, hopefully one last time before the next update.

I'm removing the donate link, this is now officially our server's thread.

*but seriously man, thanks a lot

No worries Briaeros, but I was serious about me kidding about the
    "ops for money" thing

    *Hugs*

    Glad to have helped, s'all.

holy shit MrDuck you generous generous soul! Making everyone else feel like a cheapskate

Well, nice going everyone that donated - I'm totally amazed at how quickly we did this! w00t!

Feel bad now that I'm spending most of my minecraft time deep in ma lair, rather than building awesome community stuff. Shall soon change that I'm sure.

If I can gift several copies of Minecraft to many TTLG peeps, I can certainly spend a few more euros for making this a stable and safe haven for the TTLG Minecraft Guild.

    My pleasure as always.

I just logged on to match the price of a copy of Minecraft ($13) and now it's too late...oh well, thanks to all that made this possible. This was a really, really good shot TTLG. Maybe I'll just gift a copy to a certain copyless TTLGer.

That didn't take long. I saw the thread go up but had to run as I was late for work, so I figured I'd donate when I get back. Now I'll have to be a freeloader

    Nice job everyone!

    My place so far:

    Entrance

Overview. Dunno, if i should try to clear more visibility to the bottom of the cave.

Arboretum, thanks Zombe for mossy <3

    Kitchen, I like it

    Bedroom with fancy ceiling lighting.

The swimming pool. I think I need to pester Briarios for water blocks, because it's impossible to fill the pool with current water physics and broken buckets.

    Every Finn needs a sauna.

It's still work under construction, but I'm glad it's this far! Soon I can surface to build some community projects as well.

We seem to be having a griefer. Someone did severe damage to the Alpine Canary office, smashed a window nearby and built a bridge (out of glass) to the roof, poked holes in Dresden's house, left TNT on Al_B's steps, blew up part of the old quarter, blew up the hut near the spawn, so on and so forth.

Whoever this is, fuck you. We're going to find you and we're going to rape you with a cat.

    That's right bitch. A cat.

We found the TNT you forgot in the Old Quarter, by the way. Bomb-squad'd safely, courtesy of Al_B, Dresden and me. You faggot.
