Thief Gold crashes

I have installed Thief Gold onto my laptop. This is an ASUS UL50vt/UL50vg series, with Windows 7 Home Premium, with the Intel U7300 1.3 GHZ 64-bit processor and the NVIDIA GeForce G210M graphics card.
The game plays the intro movie fine, and it will begin the training level. However, after 30 seconds to a minute (give or take somewhat), it will simply freeze, and not react to any input. If Garrett is in the air, he becomes frozen there, etc. and I am forced to ctrl-esc and shut down the game with the task manager.
I have never had a problem like this on any of my older computers. However, it has been a while since I've played thief, so the last computer I used probably had XP on it. Any ideas on what is going on and how to fix it?
