    ____
Summa summarum(altogether) there are just 22 different types of trees split into trunks and leaves with very different levels of detail (short LOD).

My goal was it to create a tree pack which can achieve a high variations of trees with high quality. Therefore the textures of the most models can be replaced and all textures are saved as .tga which is much better for replacements.

The amount of single models is quite low because I tried to keep the amount of polys below 1200 for each model so I split the most models into trunks and leaves - The quality is much better if you use a combination instead of a single model. The biggest tree in this pack has 3 trunks and one leaf model.
To reduce the poly count I often used least splits - I think this term is just known by model makers for all the others I explain it like this: You can save polys at the cost of perfect rendering.

On the most model this effect is not very big but on some it's really ugly. I left some of these models in the pack to explain this effect and of course I provided at least 1 alternative for them.

For more information read the text file in the pack and the books ingame.

But enough talk I bet you want to see some screenshots

    Enhanced vs old

More Screenshots of the enhanced version are a few posts below.

4 times the same tree but always with another bark and leaf texture

    Tree1a-Tree2b

    Tree4a

Tree4b,5a and Mushrooms - Tree 5-9 are very different from 1-4

This is the big tree I have talked above
    Tree8

    Palms

    Various Leaves:

Various Trunks - Nearly every object will display its name and poly count when focused

    2aBush

    *max 12 images allowed*

Different barks + 1aBush with 2 leaf versions

    *max 12 images allowed*

The 4 barks on the right are very similar but I would like to hear which one you like more then I could edit the others the same way for a better look.

•Here you can see all my tree pictures I have uploaded so far (nothing really new at the moment)
    Either as Slideshow or Album
    Got deleted. Stupid new imageshack.

•This pack is not finished since Schwaa told me how to improve the models I want to do that but that would take some time. Also I have a few more higher poly trees here which can also be handled by the engine but I haven't included them yet because I'm not sure how save they are. ( dint nothing so far with them lul...)

•Please feel free to give me hints, suggestions, mistakes, spelling/grammar corrections or the like. (maybe the last ones as PM)

•I also have a few more bark textures here but my image editing skills are not so amazing it would be very cool if someone could help me improving them.

As an interested spectator, those trees are beautiful and I like the first and second barks.

    Fantastic, thanks Daraan!

Good vegetation is something we've badly needed for quite some time!

I must tip my hat to these fine tree models.

Most of the trees in Thief 2 were very basic, and building new ones is something that hasn't been attempted much because of the complex nature of trees. This type of thing is badly needed!

Dang! Now I gotta go build another FM!

I experimented with Marlin Studio's Tree Farm, which is supposed to offer low poly trees. However, the models are waaayyyy too complex for the Dark Engine. It couldn't load one tree, even with polygon reduction.

yes you see right this in an ingame view this is one of the best barks I could put my hands on until now.

The following image shows the difference between the images in the normal pack and the ones in this pack.

Ok for all those who can't believe their eyes (me included:cheeky:) this is done with the texture replacement from Timeslips's ddfix (*praise*)

Make sure the object has the alpha property (probably with a value of 1.0).

The enhanced version was 'released' silently a long time ago. Well time to upgrade this thread as well^^ Sorry for the long wait for those who didn't get it. For screenshots see posts above.
For those who already have it. Sorry nothing new here

I took Ricebug's sightseeing mission - big thanks here again - and dropped the new content in it. Well this includes most textures with higher resolution. Changed the name of the mushroom textures so the original file will not be overwritten. Mush(1-4)b or c and check out Bark7256. I love it^^

So here is Enhanced Version: Download

I tried to download it but Chrome blocked it and said it is malicious. I'm sure it isn't but it won't let me download it. Maybe someone can mirror it.

I uploaded the file at https://www.virustotal.com with 0 results... well doesn't mean anything

note to myself - I need to have a look at this pack, if I remember correctly, the palm trees had some transparency issues in one FM, quite possible that they will need alpha key set up properly just like models from vurt's SS2 flora.

Yah they need transparency alpha - 1

Due to the high poly count some models have were not 'optimized'(*) optimally with BSP and some render issues can appear at specific angles. Thats why most of the models are split in trunks and leaves for optimal rendering and detail.
