    Thief II FM : The Overlord's Ending by FireMage -- For the Reload Contest #2

    Hello everybody! Never say die! I have done it! hope that you'll like it.

    TYPE: Action and Infiltration

    Story:

    You won't play Garrett in this mission, but an old thief or a great sergeant. The Scene take place in the thieves's guild from Thief Gold. You'll have a fight between Truart's Soldiers and Downwinders.
    Notice that you'll have four kind of thieves: Donal's & Magrin's Men, Rueben's & Thom's Men.
    And Neutral Quarter and Ex-Buggar. Actually, after Garrett's come in, bosses was furious, and decide to make a war tension in the guild, sometimes bloody, but few thieves don't share this point of view, then, they have done their own team, Neutral for people who want no fights, no master. And Ex-buggars, peniless thieves who have done an organisation, lead by their champion Lars, an ancient sewer's worker, clever and strong.

    Make the good choice and select the right team.

    WHY DID I CHOICE THIS MISSION

    I have choose this one, because first, I know that few people havn't discover yet thief Gold, And I want them to know how it is. Twice, I love this map, huge, dark. perfect for an action scene. And I'll see action on it. And when i reconize overlord's fancy in the cut-scene, mission 2 of thief II, and the conversation about this raid between militiamen, I had the flash. Why not? I have think that It would be original to make an historical mission in the city.

    READ THIS:

    The read-me is not very updated about bugs, because the mission is huge and I havn't test everythings. So, in the thief version if the conversation between Magrin, Donal and Rueben won't be activated, stay in front of Magrin and wait. In fact, bosses are alerted but they don't investigate, when they'll be calm, they'll come back. About 20 second to wait for me.

    If you have trouble or question just tell me it, I'll do if I can do something.

    To bad, I was too busy to send you the map for beta-test.

    NEW: VERSION 3

    You can win without crashes. (In Xp, my windows 7 doesn't work so I don't know if it is ok on it).
    Cop version is ok
    Thief version too.
    You can't get an objective from the version that you don't play.

    Please Read the read-me with caution or you won't understand few things in game.

    Funny thing, though, I'm getting the Speech.txt file from the SND/Th1 directory showing up in the Darkloader main page instead of the readme file - anyone else getting that?

    Yes. It's happened once before but I can't remember what mission it was or what was done to fix it. Yandros might remember but I'll see if I can find the mission.

    Let me explain you. This file is just the subtitle of the voice. I have written it for the voice actor for the translation, I have just forgotten to delete this one when I have packed the ZIP. Hum... You can play unless this txt?

    I receive a screenshot about this problem. Don't run away with the fear. Juste unzip the read-me, that's so simple. Use something as WinRAR, it shall be faster.

    It doesn't affect playing the game but I like to read the Readme in Darkloader. I've now read it in the zip anyway.

    L'Opération contre le Caprice des Seigneurs.
    Et le moment était très bien choisi. Depuis que Garrett a dérobé le
    vase de saphir, il éclata une sorte de guerre de gang dans le guilde.
    Les voleurs de Donal d'un côté et ceux de Rueben de l'autre?
    Hélas, le conflit se développa davantage:
    Certains voleurs n'ont pas voulu choisir de parti, et ont conservé la
    trésorerie pour eux et ont baptisé leur appartements: Les Quartiers Neutres.
    Et d'autres voleurs, sous-payés et vivant dans peu de confort, se sont également
    unis pour former un autre clan, dont le plus malin et fort d'entre eux, Lars,
    devint le chef. Et prirent ainsi le nom d'Ex-mendiants.

    Vous incarnerez un sergent en chef de la milice ou un ancien membre de la guilde
    respecté devenu neutre.

    Alors, en miliciens: Rien à signaler, si ce n'est que nos trois bras cassés
    qui se coincent des fois ou des AIs qui courent partout sans raison.(Pathfinding complexe)
    Sauvegarder et charger arrange parfois le problème mais pas toujours.

    En voleur, sauvegardez régulièrement, en particulier quand l'objectif battez les miliciens
    apparait, le temps d'attente est imprévisible, et je ne peu rien y faire.
    Et lorsque vous devez aller voir Magrin, faîtes de même, car, des fois, la conversation
    entre lui et les chef, ne se déclenche pas (Grabuge?). Ce cas est rare, mais soyez
    prudent. Le pire: Les AIs s'emballent et foncent dans les murs, si Magrin en fait
    parti, sauvegardez et chargez en espéreant qu'il retourne vers le droit chemin ou... Continuez
    la mission... mais la fin sera bizarre.

    !!BUG!!

    So, as militiaman: No trouble, except your three taffer-bodyguards who
    stuck themself in a wall, or became fool. (Thanks to this damned complex pathfinding)
    Save and load, sometimes, remove this bug.

    In a thief. Save when the objectif "defeat city watch" appear, the battle time
    is unexpectable and I can't do anythings. Just survive during this time!
    When you have to find Magrin, save again, the converse between him and bosses have few problems
    of activations. After it, you are not safe, during the flee, the foolness bug can
    appear, then, if Magrin is among the fool, you can save and load, but
    this method does not match every time. If it don't match, continue the mission, but the end will
    be odd.

    I seem to be getting random crashes on reloading but also one crash entering the room next to the bunkroom start. I've only been playing 5 minutes. I'll try a different computer.

    A crash?? Odd, I have test in Windows 7 and Xp, and I have no crashes, and my friends too. With windows 7, you can't restart the mission without a crash and in reloading, very rarely. But in game, nothing normaly. Trouble with the english version or darkloader? I have try the english version, and nothing wrong happened, so, there, I don't understand what happening with your computer.

    Crashes for me too at quickload on Win7 32 . There is no problem with the other missions .

    I'm afraid I get the same in XP. It's consistent in both, it crashes on the first reload but loads on the second.

    Ok, so, If I make the point: Impossible to make a quick save.
    If you want to reload, you have to quit the game, return to it, and reload. That is the report?

    I feel that Darkloader is the culpable. My friends and I, we unzip in our thief directory. Backup all files which can be removed. If we have a non-english version, we rename all english folder by the name of our language in english.

    Perhaps, Darkloader dislike my ZIP? I just can't understand why.

    Bah... To bad, I fear that you shall play, and try to survive. It is annoying, but It is not my fault.

    I think I understand what you're saying. If I try to reload either a quick or hard save while in game, it crashes. When I then reload after that, it does load.

    It's not spoiling anything for me. It's HUGE! And yes I am full of shame about stealing from my mates.

    I think I've got an idea why it's not working.
    During my lunch break I opened your mission in DromEd and got the following error:


    Running the command "info_window" gives me the following:


    If you add alll those numbers together, you get a 7512 which is at least 513 above the limit DromEd and DarkEngine can handle.

    Yeah, it is a huge mission. But, when you add two game in one mission, it is normal that we get something like that, and I have add few rooms and more area or details.

    For the error message, you just can click on cancel, and the mission is loaded. To portalize, I was forced to make a vbr o' all objects, delete them all after, then, when it is done, reimport it in the mission.

    So, now, if you think that DarkEngine can't stand that normaly, so, now we understand that why, dromed won't to load directly. Thanks for your investigation.

    I have a question: Am I the only taffer who have done two version in one mission with more than 7500 items and brushes?

    By the way, is someone who won the mission? No other trouble except Ai's foolness?
