Darkloader FM installs reverts back to T2

Hi all, long time no see

I bought Thief 2 for the second time off gog.com, hoping to play the second part of this fantastic piece that Deceptive Perceptions was.

Unfortunately, after installing the FM and hitting "play", I find to my dismay that the original game is still installed and that I'm not in the process of getting scared sh!***** by the content.

So, yeah. Sorry if this problem was solved in the past. I looked through the stickied posts and had no idea what I should enter as a search query. The game, darkloader, and the FMs are all in separate folders. Thief 2 is patched to 1.18 and convict.osm seems to be in place. What could be missing ?

    Thanks a lot !

Could you describe in more detail, exactly what you did?

    1 - Install T2 from gog.com. Patch the game to 1.18.

2 - download darkloader. Place in separate folder. Once inside the program, point to my T2 directory and my FM directory.

3 - Select Deceptive Perceptions II, click play. It was "successfully" installed.

4 - Thief II fires up, only it is not the FM, but the original game.... including all my saves from the OM.

I have vista, on a dell quad core that should have no problem running thief II. I used to play it on this same computer with a thief II CD installation.

Would you perhaps have installed the game in a "protected" folder such as "C:\Program Files" ?
It's heavily recommended NOT to do so, in particular under Vista and more recent Windows versions.
But maybe disabling the UAC might somehow fix that. Or running DarkLoader and the game "as an administrator".

I don't see anything wrong with this, it should work. Yet it's not, I hate to state the obvious, but it must be a software problem - something is preventing DarkLoader from loading the FM.

I am not sure how good you are with computers, but have you looked at the 'Thief2' game folder, to see if DarkLoader has unzipped the FMs files into it. It probably has, yet DarkLoader is being prevented from doing it's thing.

I think we need the experts to view this thread to help you.

The only other thing I can think of, is that installing the game from an online source is causing the problem, but i just can't see how.

Sorry I am not much help.

Try taffer patcher. If that doesn't patch it for a quad core, then new thief 2 sets are cheap on ebay.
I am not sure of the downloaded version, but others have made it work. The last option would be to install Dromed Tool kit 1.00
and then add the line to the user.cfg skip_starting_checks ( eliminates the need for the cd), and then use darkloader with the option of playing through dromed. In my opinion the cd sets are the way to go.

    C:/games/Thief2 is a good directory.

Before doing any of those things, what operating system do you have and where exactly are the Thief, Darkloader and FM folders?
