    Thief Gold + Thief 2 - Windows 8 Working

Not that surprising really since it works so well on Windows 7. Screenshot:

I have win 8 release preview on my laptop and thief 2 installs fine but the fps is low.Haven't tried Thief 1 yet. What's the fps at you?

I'm currently running Core 2 Quad QX9300 Extreme running at 3 Ghz and a ATI 5870m, so it should run really well, but of course it doesn't. runs perfectly on Win 7, I was getting FPS that fluctuated between 20-60 fps.
This could be an ATI issue though, as their drivers are crap.

Does it install easily/normally on Windows 8? What about T3?

Sorry. I'm just about ready to get a new computer myself. My desktop bit the dust back in October and I've JUST gotten the rest of the money I need to get a new machine. Now I have the oh-so-fun (NOT!) task of FINDING a machine to fit in my budget and still run what I need it to run. (Namely, Thief, Sims3 and Guild Wars 2 - whatever the specs are on that - if it can handle those three, it can probably handle most anything else I'm going to throw at it. Maybe a bit of Champions Online, or Lord of the Rings online to keep my friend happy. He's been bugging me to try them for a while now.)

I'm leaning towards a laptop. . .I've sort of gotten used to being able to move around, with this old laptop for the past year. Though I do like the 'flexibility' of desktops better. They do *NOT* seem to be cheap for what I need. And with windows 8 coming out at the end of October, I'm seriously wondering if I shouldn't just wait and go with that. (Not that I like the looks of Windows 8 much - for a laptop or desktop - but one must be prepared to move forward, like it or not - and it seems silly to go with windows 7 when the new one is so close!)
Argh. I hate choosing new tech. Its so confusing!

    So, yeah. . .T3 on Windows 8?

Thanks. Nice to be able to read some stuff here BEFORE I put money down and find out the hard way. :P

It works, but at very low framerate. Menuing is a pain, cursor moves so slowly, and in game, it's not so fluid.

    Intel i5 2500K
    8GB RAM
    eVGA Gforce 580SC

looking at your other post, you are still using DDFix (Thief2). make a new, fresh install of T2 and use the latest Tafferpatcher.

are you telling me that for newer Win8 we have to use an older patch like tafferpatcher?

  15. #15
no, I'm telling you to get the latest version of Tafferpatcher, which has been released in November 2012 (TafferPatcher_TMA_207_beta).

the timestamp of the post has nothing to do with the patch itself.

And more importantly, the new Tafferpatcher includes NewDark.

Yes, you're so right, sorry for the missunderstanding.
