    You Can't Do That, Dave

What the hell, Mustaine? I thought you were cool. Then I find out you're a big flappy homophobe and now this?

I always thought Megadeth's frontman was pretty lefty, esp. when you consider the subject of many of their songs. Did I completely read him wrong?

Either too many drugs, or not enough of the right ones, I suspect. It goes to show that even rock stars can hold wacko political views and believe ridiculous falsehoods.

He was lefty, like in the 90s. Then he had a religious revelation apparently -- Let me guess, right after 9/11. That's how wiki makes it sound. But yeah, he's just letting his emotions do the talking... Fair game to call him on it, but he's a rock guitarist so... I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Some people just can't hold their emotions in check & subject them to that part of the brain that looks at it and says "Are you serious? Wtf?", and he's one of those kinds of people, to say the least. But I wouldn't doubt it's also part of why he's a good guitarist for that style... It's just better he lets his crazy out into the music and not into politics.

Too many drugs or not enough? I'd read about conspiracy theorists making the same claim (regarding the latest spate of shootings in the U.S.), but hearing this particular 'theory' spoken aloud .... I mean, really?

Seriously though, I think everybody knows somebody where it's like, Ok Bob's normally a decent guy and everything, just don't mention Jews, contrails, or climate change around him or he'll go batshit & we'll never shut him up... And then you just learn what stuff you can & shouldn't talk about with him.

Apparently Jew contrails totally control the weather in a conspiracy against oil companies and the American way of life.

That's disinformation spread by the inter-dimensional Communist space midgets of Lambda Serpentis to destabilise the galactic rule of Ktharkkkl. Your friend is clearly a clone.

Yeah, Dave's pretty much off the deep end now. I suspect he always harbored rightist--maybe even reactionary--views, but took a hard turn towards racism, paranoia, and general bitterness while recovering from drug addiction. Some people open up and take a more relaxed, progressive approach to life and others when resurfacing from a trauma. Sadly, Dave seems to have gone the other direction. Blaming the president for gun massacres, blaming African women for overpopulation, blaming blaming blaming. Dave's simply traded illnesses and addictions.

Good to see that he's getting the appropriate reaction from TTLG!

Best to ignore his opinions and just enjoy the music

^^^ The nutjob ratio seems really high among celebrities. They're the last people I'd take seriously on matters outside their art or area of expertise.

Agreed. The problem is that their celebrity causes the media to hump their every random crazy-ass thought. If not for his status as a metal icon, he'd be just another anonymous racist, sexist bigot trying to convince his like-minded shit-for-brain buddies that he's the smartest one in the bar.

(Ooh, wait, I think I just described my father-in-law...)
