No clue, Thirith. I just hope Abrams has more sense than to include a stupid character like Binks in his reboot. Jar Jar Jr., perhaps? Oh hell no.

Jawaharlal Binks, Jar Jar's postcolonial great-grandson.

Gungans lifespans are shorter than humans, so it's likely Jar Jar would be long gone. It wouldn't make sense to include him anyway, since he (seemingly) never really had any contact with any of the characters that will be in this movie anyway.

And also because Jar Jar is lame, and everybody knows it. I'm sure Abrams would want to distance himself from one of Lucas' worst decisions ever.

Lucas' worst decision was to direct Star Wars himself, except The Empire Strikes Back, which is still the highlight of the series to this day. With JJ Abrams taking the director's chair I have hopes we will see something close to that. If not I'll eat my Chewbacca costume.

Let's just hope he stops with all the damn lens flares.

Was Lucas bad in directing the original Star Wars movie? I thought he did a pretty good job, but maybe I've just seen it too many times to even notice now. I think he was even nominated for Best Director that year.

Now Phantom Menace, that's another story...

He also did a good job of American Graffiti and THX 1138. Whatever talent he had as a director went out the door with the prequels, though; he made proven good actors look crap, and middling actors look abysmal.

The prequels were doomed from conception. There is nothing good about them. Except Jango Fett. I think it must just be impossible to mess up a Fett.

    I know, right? Fucking insane.

In other news: colour me lukewarm on this still. Good cast, but such bad legacy from the Prequels and JJ Abrams is something of a flashy but hollow director who has done a very fun but also quite artificial job on Star Trek. There are so many moving parts that can go wrong... if I see a single lens flare off a lightsabre in a trailer I will straight up quit it.

But will you hit it first?

Max is only 85 guys. What's amazing is he's still acting (not that he's alive) and that he was in this piece of awesomeness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbgiWPJLSsM

That's the whole film on YouTube and if you've never seen it you should rectify that forthwith.

"This video is not available in your country."

No problem, that's what I've got the Criterion DVD for.

Failed hipsters are the new hipsters.

Also, if I replaced every Criterion DVD I'd bought with the Blu-ray when it came out, my wife's eye-rolling could be used to generate enough electricity to power most of Western Europe.

    Hmm...

*goes and orders The Seventh Seal Blu-ray*

    Spin-off movie announced!

It'll maaaaybe center on Boba Fett. Estimated to be released in 2016. It will be directed by Godzilla-director Gareth Edwards and be written by Gary Whitta, who was one of the writers of Telltale's The Walking Dead game (Season 1).

    OMG? OMG!

(also, hilarious though it is, shouldn't the title of this thread be changed to something more descriptive?)

Rian Johnson writing Episodes VIII and IX, definitely directing VIII, maybe directing IX.

I have...mixed feelings about this. Johnson is easily in my top five favourite working directors, and I'm sure he'll make the best Star Wars movies since Empire. But it means he won't be making his own movies for a while.

So apparently Wedge turned down an offer to be in the new movies, and they still haven't asked Lando to participate.

Not to mention shooting has been delayed due to one of the Millennium Falcon's blast doors falling on Han Solo's leg.

I'm not real happy about any of this.

(and we should probably append to the existing thread title to indicate what this thread is actually about).

Well they have it covered in a tarp. It could be anything.

Incidentally, it was bad enough most games have pop-up arrows telling you where to look.
Now we have them for photos. If it's not already obvious what you're looking at, you need to get off Internet and take a break.

I don't get how someone geeky enough to actually know what a TIE Advanced is could somehow mistake an X-Wing for it.
