Nope, but I looked up some of the story twists to contextualise the ending I got, and hoo boy, Emhyr's a real piece of work. The game sort of did away with the backstory in an attempt to make Ciri's self-sacrificing empress route look gallant and proper in an attempt to round out the story paths, but in the reality of the books that's probably one of the worse fates she could have.

I'll probably get around to the books someday, but I always have this feeling when I read translations that a lot of the original language's flavour has been lost.

If you have any interest in reading them you might want to consider it before getting into Blood and Wine, as one of Geralt's old traveling buddies is a central character in it. I'm sure it can be enjoyed just fine without knowing who the hell that person is who you're suddenly supposed to give a shit about, but since it's the final piece of the whole saga* and we're probably not getting any more might as well get everything out of it.

*fingers crossed for a prequel detailing Vesemir's wild youth

Well, I don't really want to put Blood & Wine off for too long, so out of interest, which stories feature him? I might as well take a swing at those if I can.

I've finished off Hearts of Stone, and it was better than most of the main game, all things considered. A concentrated dose of Witcher goodness combined with good writing and better execution. Even though its quests have a backbone formed from clichés, it has plenty of fun with them, and I was greatly entertained.

Sulp, probably Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy, aka Regis.

One thing to keep in mind about Blood and Wine is that it doesn't feel merely like an expansion, but almost like a mini-sequel in its own right.

Sounds like it's going to be a fun ride! Guess I'll wrap up some of the outstanding contracts from the main game before I get on with it.

In the meantime, I really liked the way Percival used the saz (I guess? It's the strummed/plucked string instrument) in the Hearts of Stone OST. I found an extended live version of the best track from Hearts of Stone:

Oh snap, that makes me want to pick it up even more now (stellar reviews aside)

He shows up in the third novel Baptism of Fire and sticks around for the rest of the saga, so you'd pretty much have to read the whole thing to get to his parts. Probably not really worth it just for the extra appreciation, it's perfectly enjoyable regardless.

Fair enough, I think I'll start off with the first three books at least and wrap up some other gaming in the interim. Thanks, reizak!

Yeah, it is weird how they kind of left out that huge plot detail about what's going on in Emhyr's head.

    edit: Actually....

In the books, Emhyr actually does get Ciri. He gets cold feet, has a moment of self reflection, and lets her go without telling her that he's her father.

This lovely video was released today by CD Project to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the Witcher series:

Contains very light character spoilers. Though you could watch it even if you haven't played the 3rd game + Blood and Wine yet.

Watching this made me want to go play Witcher 3 again. Like catching up with an old friend.

This review of every bar in The Witcher 3 makes me wanna go on an Oxenfurt pub crawl.

Arinbjorn Inn: The worst bar in Skellige

The patrons were grim and impolite, and many were excessively drunk. The bartender greeted me with a gruff “Well? What?” that further drove the point home. I’d say they just don’t like outsiders, but the locals didn’t seem to like each other much either.

I still need to get back to that one... As much as I enjoyed Witcher 3, I haven't felt a strong urge to go back.

Blood and Wine was definitely the high point of the game for me, visually it is stunning.

Blood and Wine is one of my favourite expansions / DLCs of all time. It might be my favourite of the lot actually. Offers up an excellent story, new additions to gameplay, PLENTY of side quests and the whole thing goes for quite a bit of time. I had an absolute blast playing it. It is the proper goodbye to the series also.

Best part is that by the end I wasn't sick of it at all. Never outstays it's welcome. Even watching that video they put out a short while ago, made me want to go play The Witcher 3 again.

Or better yet, just stop it altogether. Just stop posting, EvaUnit. It's fine.

When you finally get banned from this place I'd prefer to fonly remember you as the asshole you used to be, rather than the racist troll you're turning into.

I haven't posted anything racist. If that's where your mind goes when you see a simple cosmetic mod then that speaks volumes about you. Maybe it's time that you did some self-reflection, hmmm?

Or maybe it's time you consider why a vast majority of people here would absolutely love it if you disappeared into some dark hole?

You live in a world on the verge of a minor apocalypse, and yet you still seems to believe that corruption in gaming journalism and sjws in media are among the most pressing issues of our time... and you have the gall to tell others to self-reflect? Really?

JESUS CHRIST! I leave for a week, and this is what I come back to?

Okay, let's break this down. There's a goodly bit of the usual outrage being generated due to the rumors that Netflix may hire a quote unquote woman of color to play Ciri. It all comes down to people screaming about rape of culture, a general disregard for the lack of inclusiveness, blah blah blah. It's Thursday, and the world turns.

Evaunit, who has a reputation of standing up with the anti-shrill SJW let's trigger a lib today crowd, will of course resurrect a 7 month dead thread to post a link of BLACK CIRI! Cuz OLOL, AMIRITE!

Does this make Eva a racist? Not necessarily.

Does it make him an obnoxious goddamn asshole who should've fucking known better than to do the above, knowing full well the shit it was gonna stir up that he had full intentions of playing innocent to to further stir up more shit on top of that? Oh yes, very much so.

So, Eva? You know what you did, and why you did it. I know what you did, and why you did it. Please drop the act, and kindly refrain from posting anything more in this thread regarding your contentious post.

Don't get me wrong, I feel the same way about Eva as you guys do, but I don't understand this part of the argument, which you've used at least twice recently.

So, just because there are a lot of serious, life and death issues going on in the world today, that means we can't talk about some lighter hearted stuff too, like games and movies and music?

Sorry, I can't be on board with that. This is a gaming forum, after all.
