Which one of these three alarm you the most?

    EXHIBIT A

    Taken from the EM forums.

Caption: "This is JP, our Marketing Coordinator/gameplay specialist, capturing footage as we speak."
    EXHIBIT B

    Found on Twitter
    EXHIBIT C

“The levels are really smaller than say for example a shooter game,” Cantin said. “Being claustrophobic was kind of an important thing for us. You need to feel the world, to feel the city.

    Quoted from this article.
    Exhibit D

    Press X to youtube

(Can't vote for that one in the poll, sorry! Had no idea this existed back when I created this thread. I'm sure it would have given Exhibit C some serious competition.)
Which one do you consider the most troubling?

    B.

I'm not in love with the idea of small, claustrophobic levels, either. But, large levels can be awful if poorly constructed.

And neither here nor there on 'A'. The guy is playing on a console...I too will be playing it on a console....

I'm going to say "C" because it suggests they took TDS as their model instead of the far superior first two games.

Well, Freyja did say she hurried through the level just to produce that screen for people to see.

Big deal - he got through the level "quickly" while taking virtually none of the loot.

    And only being detected twice.

Still, they may have even gone into some type of development or god mode, I suppose.

She said it was the first mission. Maybe it's an easy, training mission.

It doesn't necessarily mean the end of the world. One could beat Lord Bafford's manor in less than 45 seconds, so I'm unfazed in that regard. IF however these 07:17 are any indication to the kind of length you can expect from a first time playthrough, then colour me (even more) worried.

While I cast my vote for C, I also have to agree with what Queue said about large levels being awful if poorly constructed (case in point: Soulforge, which I've always hated, hated, HATED with a passion.).

God, they are all awful! I guess A is to be expected as we know it is a console game. We can hope C is subjective and D can be explained as a speed run of the first level... but "stealth unlock"? I hope that comes straight after the annoying AMD or NVidia mandatory, unskippable intro video.

Well I don't know about the end of the world - but I doubt there's any official Thief missions you can get through in 7 minutes while only being detected twice. Just sayin.'

    C, definitely.

Another poll invalidated by a lack of "none of the above" option. That's Vae's territory, son -- though, admittedly, this is less of an insulting "I hate it because I am right in the head"/"I love it because I love Hitler" false binary.

B is a clear joke, by the way -- if you're taking it seriously, you're doing it wrong.

In that case, I definitely pick 'B'.

I'm pretty sure I could do Bafford's Manor that quickly with 0 detections without much trouble.

With regards to the level sizes - even Thief 1 and 2 didn't have levels, in general, that were like norma FPS levels in size. Except Shipping and Receiving. Dishonored doesn't either. I suppose it depends on what you're comparing it to. The levels in Half Life 2, for example, are massive in comparison to Thief 1 and 2. Doom 3's levels are pretty small but it's a closet shooter.

It's not a joke, it's from one of the IGN videos. Start watching at about 4:45.

(obligatory "IGN are not to be trusted" comment)

Okay, what I'm seeing here is that stealth is unlocked at the beginning of the game and it's just "lvl. 2 stealth" that needs unlocking. And?

It's part of the focus system, and all that can be avoided, at least.

You said it (the screenshot) was a joke - I was just pointing out that it wasn't. I have no idea what the actual significance of a stealth upgrade has within the game itself.

Thiaf was a console game since pretty much day one. If A is alarming to you, then you haven't been paying attention.
B shouldn't be alarming, as well. If you check Brethren's video, you'll see that stealth is a focus upgrade, and as such, something I suspect most here will never even run into. This is a complete non-issue, and I say this as a card carrying member of the Hate Brigade.
C might have been alarming for a better game, but this is Thiaf, so it just induces apathy instead.
    How's this for E?

You can pretty easily play the old games on a controller with Xpadder. It's not outrageous to play a game with a controller.

Could you be more specific on what A is supposed to be?

And I guess it doesn't worry you in the slightest that actual gameplay content is indistinguishable from what you call "a clear joke"?

By the way, thanks Brethren for providing the video this is taken from! I couldn't find that thing for the life of me.

    @suliman

E is pretty cool, actually (the animated gif, that is, not the prospect of Max Payne archery). Maybe focus mode will enable NuGarrett to perform slo-mo Matrix-style arrow dodges. In fact, I'd be surprised if that feature wasn't in the game.

    @Azaran

This is a purely subjective poll. If you don't find anything wrong with it, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
