Alright! It's time for me to join in on the fun, finally! I'll be Scholarin' it up in Dark Souls 2 in a little under 3 minutes.

edit: gotta say, it's great finally getting to play the game they showed off in all those screenshots and videos way back when.

Triple posting, cuz holy shit, I found something weird.

Has anyone seen this helmet before? Is it something new to Scholar of the First Sin, because I've never seen anything like it previously.

edit: I'm gonna join the Sun Bros. and wear this for all my jolly cooperations.

Lol, yes it was in DS2 too. It was (and still is) a rare drop from Prowling Magi (they wear it, remember?) - the boss, and the one in Amana. Both spawned only once per playthrough.

That reminds me, I've often wondered why we don't have a fashion thread for these games.

I vaguely recall the priest in the congregation boss fight having one. Thing is, I thought it was a part of the character. Never knew it was an item.

The reason I assumed it was specific to Scholar is due to how I found it. I used a Yore branch on a petrified lion that was in a place there wasn't one before, and he dropped it after I killed him.

Your first shot is right before the Fume Knight, isn't it? My eye started twitching when I saw it, so I think it might be...

No, the middle one is. The first one is just after that deadly session in the water with those spellcasters in the Shrine of Amana.

Speaking of old Fume, I've found that it is one of the only locations these days where I can still get summoned in less than 10 mins.

Ok, the goat hat is pretty cool.

    No we're not. :P
Let me put on my monocle while I respectfully disagree!

Although I had mustache and beard, how did I lose it? Now I look like Jacko :/ Scratch that, it's young Michael Palin. Although he goes by the name of Vincent. Hope Michael Palin would like that.

I myself always go for a down-to-earth knightly look for my characters.

Oh yes. The Goat Hat is cool indeed. Besides its glaringly obvious fashion appeal, it also sports high dark resistance, adds +2 intelligence, and allows you to absorb more souls per kill.

I bet you unknowingly visited the Sex Change Coffin.

Thanks! Now I can get back to my #sadkeanu face!

Although lately I'm feeling more like showing my constant surprise to everyone.

I'd say the manikin mask looks more like a #sadkeanuface. Your uncovered face has too much, you know, emotion on display.

Also, here's a cool picture I took just a little while ago, shot just after a particularly nasty giant spider fight.

edit: Though I still think my best Dark Souls character shot is this one, which I've titled "...sup."

But, it is a bit easier start for classes other than heavy melee. I started my first DS playthrough as sorcerer which, as we all know by now, equals masochist level 1000. In DS 2 you actually have a chance to survive as mage. Your spells have decent range and damage output. You even can take a hit or two, thanks to "no strength requirement" armor sold in Majula. I'm a bit worried about initial strength and dexterity though. It's like 3 or 5, meaning you can't even lift a short sword or bow. Guess it's better to raise those stats sooner than later.
It is definitely easy mode. The new enemy placement is usually for the worse. They essentially removed all the tough encounters and mobs. For example that annoying asshole at the bottom of the cave in Undead Copse? Gone. The turtle men in the corridor leading to Soldier's Rest? Gone, replaced by Skeletons, probably one of the weakest enemy in the game. Those huge slumbering beasts in the water in the Saltfort? Simply removed, they didn't even bother replacing them with anything else. They also changed the placement of keys, meaning pretty much every area is accessible at the very start. I was able to fight the Salt Fort boss for the first time with the lights on because I had already found the Bastille key. Same thing with the Dull Ember, I don't remember it being available so soon.

The game is also extremely generous in loot. The Poison Pool area in Harvest Valley is just ridiculous, there's so much of it you're almost tripping on it. And if that wasn't enough they've added a ton of new NPCs to help you fight bosses (and enough Human Effigies to summon them all), meaning you'll almost never fight a boss with less than three people in your party, four or five if you can find other players online...

Eight hours in, and I'm already at the Iron Keep, level 74, with fully improved equipment and around 20 spare Titanite Shards and as many Human Effigies. At this point Scholar of the First Sin is easier on a first playthrough than regular Dark Souls 2 on NG+ with a level 200+ character. I mean I understand that I'm getting better at this game, but this is just ridiculous. And it's definitely not my Cleric who's overpowered. At this point I have so few spells I'm just hitting things with my mace, the only difference with my melee character is that I have about 20 less strength, vitality and endurance, so that can't be it. The only good thing is torches are now useful. I never even knew in regular DS2 that they were in limited quantity, never could figure out what that timer was... I'm tempted to join the Covenant of Champions, but cutting myself off from online co-op seems like a shame.

Anyway I'm really disappointed in this new version and almost regret buying it. I should have waited for a further price drop. Well, at least I didn't have to buy the DLC twice, hopefully that will quench my thirst for new content...

    SHAKE IT, HENKE! SHAKE IT!

On another note, it looks like DS2:SOTFSOLOL got a patch in today. Apparently it fixes the weapon durability/framerate bug that's plagued the PC versions for about forever now.

...which I've now experienced, and it does indeed suck.

Damn, Iron Keep is such a bitch. Or I am its bitch. Either way, I don't like the idea of unleashing more and more powerful AI phantoms on me. Especially two in a row. Especially with something like 10k of HP, where my HP is a bit above 1k...

Have you tried summoning some help? There are some challenging parts to that level until you get to know the layout a bit better. Sniping definitely helps

I just now beat that area, and yeah, it's an absolute teetotal whore-bitch of a place. Easily my least favorite part of the entire game.

If you need the help, I'll put down my summon sign out front, and we'll run through it.

  23. #73
That would be great, Renz! We'll have to do something about the time difference though, and using Skype for voice chat would probably be a good idea.

Also, I helped several people with Undead Purgatory, but I'm afraid to do it alone

Picked this up during the steam sale since I didn't play the DLCs.

Just hit the fume knight. Any advice?
