    New FM Briefing: Waterfront Racket

Tannar and I have been working on a film noir project for Thief 2 called "Waterfront Racket" for about 10 months now, and it's about to be released, so we thought we could share the first briefing movie. This project plays nothing like Thief, it's more like being in an interactive noir movie where you play a private eye trying to crack the case. You can find a few screenshots at The Weary Taffer, but we're keeping most of the details under wraps so as not to spoil the surprise.

    Interesting indeed!

    One question though:
Are all character names sto^d *ahem* taken & mixed up from Chandler and Hammett novels?

Not just from their novels, no, but from film noir in general. None have the exact names, but yes, we mixed and matched in places. Every character's name is taken from some noir work, though the first name may be from one and the last name from another. We wanted to make this a kind of homage to the genre, since we're both huge fans.

    Awesome

Looks awesome! I can't wait to play. Like a new game but I don't have to learn the controls.

Sorry, no tommy guns. For the player, it's more about sleuthing, immersing yourself in the atmosphere, and uncovering the story than gangsters, guns and violence. Although there is certainly some of the latter.

Wonderful! You can tell this is a real labour of love.
You've captured the "film noir" feel perfectly, can't wait to play it!

As sadly as the author said, there wouldn´t be one, I think it should be possible to implement one in the game. In other mission, like Batman Demo or The Rebellion of the Builder, the sinister Gangsters and Mechanists used guns.
Just think about the mayhem Garrett could cause with a Tommy Gun.

I will love this modern-themed mission.
Or - to quote Peter Clemenca from Godfather: "Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."

It reminds me somewhere (music & atmosphere) one of my favourite games, Tex Murphy... I'm impatient to play it!
