Alien 3 always seemed a bit cheap to me, what with it being stacked to the brim with British TV actors. Obviously not an issue for the non-Brits, but you could watch it going: "There's that guy from Casualty! And that fella was in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. Hey, wasn't that bloke in Coronation Street?" Bit of an immersion buster for me, anyway.

Presumably they spent the majority of the budget on Weaver's fee and special effects, so they had to shop in the bargain basement for the supporting cast.

The alien does the whole thing method, so stays in marine character in the court scenes - proves self.
District 9 is kind of similar.

Charles Dance the minor stage actor?
    Pete Posthelwaite the Oscar nominee?
Paul McGann of Withnail and I fame?

Oh wait, there's a couple of TV actors in it. You're right, it was on a shoestring.

You have been tagged "clueless", to match reality.

The only thing which made Alien 3 seem cheap was the 1st gen CGI.

I don't know anything about the 3rd guy, but in all fairness the first two became much better known after Alien 3 (1991). Postelwaite's oscar nomination was in 1993.

Man, he was great as Kobayashi.

Benedict Cumberbatch. No CGI required. Prosthetics only.

A bit OTT, but heyyyy, sure, why not?

Now to wait and see if the movie is any good.

That poster's giving me major historical painting vibes, can't put my finger on which one it reminds me of -- renaissance versions of hell, Hades? It's pretty well done though, so I ain't complaining. (Is one of them getting face hugger intubated through their... nose?)

If only the film could live up to this poster.

    The queen is nicely done.

    I think that's a tail doing a wrap-around.

I wonder if Geiger did that poster or if it's some knock off.

Trouble is, the poster is great - so what. The Prometheus trailer was AMAZING and how did that turn out? The Covenant trailer sucks so maybe the movie will be brilliant. Probably not, since the stuff that sucked was all the stuff that a movie needs to be good.

Those were indeed some of the ones I was thinking of. Thanks, Kolya.

Yep, I guess that's it, though I meant the fella on the right.

Giger passed away in 2014, and the poster doesn't match his normal work, which was never that particular wash of stark monochrome. As far as the movie goes, it'll be what it'll be. No one's saying trailers or posters ever reflect the final quality of the film they represent; there's no harm in appreciating a nicely executed image in the meantime.

As long as it has none of the egg morphing stuff, then good. Yuck.

Yes, it's reminiscent of a lot of them. I was struck by the resemblance to Taddeo di Bartolo's Last Judgment., the position of the human face with the facehugger/rope wrapped around it being rather alike.

    (facepalm) Details.

Yeah we must hope that the movie lives up to its hype.

Wait - there's a 'fella on the right'? I think that's a disembodied alien head facing right, plunked on some indeterminate lump of tissue. But just to the left of it... is that a she-engineer boob or an elbow?

Oh yeh, this thread and the world at large won't be complete without me talking you into the best Alien-infested-spacestation-being-cleaned-by-space-marines-that-is-you-game yet and it's called Space Beast Terror Fright. It's raw game systems working to your early demise.

Yes, you can totally hit me up for a mp game.

    Watched some of Prometheus again.

It starts great then gets ridiculous really fast.

    1. Why wouldn't you introduce the team to each other before you set off?
    2. How could anyone qualified to go on a mission like this (no matter how cheap - which is an argument rolled out btw; that Vickers got the cheapest people. If she were travelling all that way herself I'm pretty sure she'd pick good people. She even states she's risk averse) NOT believe that something is seriously up when Noomi explains why they are there.
    3. How could Noomi insist on no weapons? They'd be 100% mandatory regardless.

    And then it gets worse.

It's a great set up and like the ideas behind it. The atmosphere is great and overall it feels right. But... yeah, you know.
