Your favourite Thief missions! 2017 Hardcore Redux!!!

    Fellow taffers,

I need a 2017 list of the BESTEST Fan-missions available in our known universe!

I have played a couple of them.

Here is what I have played so far:

Ominous Bequest (I need amnesia inducing stuff to re-experience this goodness!)

    Broken Triad

    Lost Crusade

    Deceptive Perception

    Rose Cottage (In Progress...)

    Sturmdrang Peak (In Progress...)

    Deceptive Perception 2 (Im Progress...)

Here's a good place to start even though many of these threads are old and do not have the newest missions.

For some reason, Thief 2X often gets forgotten in most recommended FM lists. You should play it, it's pretty much another Thief game.

Amazing FMs that you won't find on those lists are the newest ones.
    Godbreaker
    Behind Closed Doors
    Breathing Corpses
    All fantastic missions.

I tried to. But Thief 2X kind of wants me to install soem flash player thingy?

    And thanks!

I know that list. But I'd like to know what kind of FMs those lousy taffers like to play in 2017!

This is the 2017 Hardcore Redux list after all *Hardcore Fireworks*

For me, it required some video codecs as far as I remember... But it was a long time ago. Search for FMSel-ready version. And play it like any other FM.

You are welcome! My own little recommendation - Saints and Thieves. This mission is kinda underrated

Unless you've played St. Edgar's Cathedral and A Servant's Life, you can't call yourself a real taffer. Those are the best missions out there that I highly recommend you play.

Breaking the Stone by HipBreaker is easily up there with the best. It should be mandatory.

He's also the most interesting mission maker. Some people just start off classy and get a little better, but HipBreaker's first mission from 2001 really feels like a first attempt. Then I guess he just kept plugging away, slowly improving, until now he works for Arkane.

Yeah. There have been quite a few people who were hired to be actual game devs as a result of making FMs.

Ignore H3H3's recommendations, they were dripping with sarcasm.

I highly recommend The Black Frog by Gaetane, and anything by Lady Rowena.

Yeah... I figured that much after being able to eat Mr. Oh dear's feces...

The Rocksbourg series, Curse of the Skull Goblet, The New Sheriff (this one for the lulz), Disorientation, Prowler of the Dark.

By Lady Rowena, I'd tell you to start with 'The Tower'.

There is no "best FM" by Lady Rowena. All of them are excellent. Start with Rowena's Curse and work your way up to Seven Sisters and then The Tower.

And if you want a chilling horror experience (for Thief 2), you have to try Eclipsed. A personal favourite of mine.

You'll find Ricebug's FMSel/Darkloader ready version of T2X in the FM Links thread.

I'm not sure whether it was because Wicked Relics was one of the best (a.k.a. funniest) testing experiences I've had or whether it's because the mission itself is a blast but that's probably my favourite mansion mission, excluding Rose Cottage which is somewhat different.

Download anything by skacky - Endless Rain, Chalice of Souls, Vanishing Point, etc. You won't regret it.

    Here are some more suggestions:

The Calendra series (Autumn in Lampfire Hills, Calendra's Cistern, Calendra's Legacy)
    The Seventh Crystal
    Equilibrium
    Finals at the Academy
The Element of Three Forces series (Mysterious Invitation, Ultima Ratio, The Mirror of Return)

Though if I'm being honest, I'd recommend playing all sorts of FMs, even if they aren't listed in this thread. Most FMs out there are fairly mediocre, especially when compared to the big ones like Broken Triad, but they're still enjoyable in their own right. You may even stumble upon some missions that are downright awful, but then you'll appreciate the great ones even more.

Not to mention there are some fun FMs that experiment with the mechanics and the engine in various ways, such as Captain of the Guard, which is basically a tower defense game in the Thief world.

I've heard calendra's sometimes has a time limit?

Calendra's Legacy mission 2 has a time limit to complete the first objective at the beginning of the mission. It's not too harsh.

One more suggestion from me - all missions by R Soul. Especially A Job Well Done. Don't see that one recommended too often.
