Is this a site where we can host our own missions?

    Hey Cardia.

Unfortunately, at this point of the development, no. I think we have enough FM hosters nowadays (SouthQuarter, ThiefMissions.com.. etc.)

The main idea of ETFMA is to bring a new modern way to access FM résumés: in a first time, as a web/mobile application (adapted to mobile devices) and in a second time, as a desktop application combined (I hope so) with NewDarkLoader (where you could get the same resumes and where you could be able to automatically download/install FMs with one button).

ETFMA could be compared to IMDB in the main principle.

But, yeah, maybe in the future, it could be possible to allow FM makers to upload theirs own FMs and create related résumés.

Alright Thanks Enybola, i though this could be like objectRepository site where authors can host themselves their missions and update them.

Just a small preview of a possible FM single template:

Oh yes this is fancy. I like the long screenshot. May be difficult in older missions unless you fire them up to get a widescreen shot. But looks good!

    Hey gamophyte,

Sure, I'll ("we'll", as Thief community ) have to take new screenshots (min 1920x1080 if possible). The idea is to use this wide block as a screenshots gallery. When you click on an arrow/bullet, this block will have his height increased, moving the rest of the bottom part. So you'll be able to have a real idea of the FM.

Got some free time to work on finishing the single fan mission template (desktop).

I'd really appreciate to get your suggestions.

I'm trying to see how this would be on the back end, when someone has to fill out these forms. There are hundreds of Fan missions, so that puts up some man hours right there. Example, does your backend detect who's video that is and out gen the link and name below the video? If not someone is making that a link each time? I would say then to save on labor you can put in credit for video and let the video be the link as it already is per embed code. I will donate some data entry time, but it's something to consider too. No doubt cool though.

No. There isn't any automatic process. Each Fan Mission has to be created individually like when you create a new article in Wikipedia. If a video isn't available, you can simply let the key value empty in the YAML front-matter (top part of the Markdown file content located between "--- ---").

Each Fan Mission is written in Markdown, saved in a proper file (ex. "death-s-cold-embrace.md") in a dedicated folder (ex. "tma" for Thief II: The Metal Age. This template is, approximately, based on this Markdown content:

As you can see, the video part is referenced by this piece of YAML code:

    Code:
    details:
      youtube:
        videoid: "v8YddvBaL_Q"
        author:
          name: "FenPhoenix"
          channelid: "UCIvtuQRbEsG0bHquWQId7mA"
If a video is available, you can put his ID as videoid value. If this key is empty, then, there isn't any video available = no video player on the fan mission page.

The screenshots are available on the wide block at the top of the template. This is why there are bullets at the bottom part and arrows at each side. Clicking on one of them, then the top screenshots gallery is expanded (it has his height increased) and you can navigate through the gallery with wide HD screenshots.

An example without video player an screenshots gallery expanded when using arrows/bullets:

I bet one could write a program to scan through FM zip files and generate entries with a significant portion (though perhaps not all) of their fields filled out. I'd be interested in giving it a shot. Also in doing some manual work like maybe screenshots or whatever else can't be automated. That is one beautiful layout.

I really like the idea and the shape it's taking. Consider the dark theme for the website however, as Thief screenshots are easier for the eyes on a dark background.

Are you going to do some search engine as well? By author, numbers of missions, themes, year, contest etc..

Tagging missions for the themes would be handy as well: undead, hammerites, cathedral, catacombs etc...

If the missions are related (e.g. a 'campaign' that was released mission by mission every couple of years, or a re-make of an old fanmission), there should be links to the other ones.

Places that missions were in 'Best FM of the year' polls.

    Places in the Contests too.

Speaking of contests - it would be good to have a history of all the contests in one place too. Things like date, rules, organizer, participants etc... and with links to the entry fanmissions pages of course.

Hrm, I like the layout too but not the screenshots at the top, which I thought was just a stylized header, to the point I was going to suggest making it thinner. But this is just going into the arena of design, which I may not want to get into.

@Fen, cool idea yeah, also, didn't know you could program. I learn something evra day, hoypadoyp!

What would be really nice would be an infrastructure that allows user-specific FM ratings. Once a critical mass of people had played, it could learn each users preferences, and be able to recommend missions based on them. Sort of like pandora for FMs

You didn't think I was copying that description text and making all those thumbnails (and formerly "previous / next" annotations) manually, did you?

I love to code (~6.5 years since I started coding regularly, but learned the basics as a kid), and since my main project Autovid is not of much use to anyone else, I'd like to see if I can't create something that'd be helpful.

I am unaware of what youtube gives you to work with, never delve into, so yeah much respect for doing all of that. I knew you must have made your thumbnails though as they look well made. Yeah anything would be helpful in this regard. This site is going to help remind me of what I have already played, and or need to play. I have a master list of FMs with context as to what interested me about it, but hasn't been updated in awhile.

Athalle at Lady Jo is doing something rather neat with screenshots, a continual montage of loaded screenies. It's very effective and looks seriously professional, but you would need to ask her how to set it up.

That's a real great idea. You could maybe base your script on the DarkLoader source code because this one scans through FM zip files too and retrieves details.

I don't know if implementing a dark theme could be a visual improvement. I think the layout should be better designed in order to expose the FMs details. I should investigate a visual change in the future maybe as an optional feature for the user.

I'll integrate an external search engine called Algolia (https://www.algolia.com/), which is the best option to be used with a static website generator as Hugo.

When you are talking about "themes", do you refer to "categories" or "tags"?

I'll investigate the way how to link Fan Missions that are part of the same campaign.

Where can I know what are the "Best FM of the year"? Is there an official TTLG thread?

Same as the "Best FM of the year". Where can I get this information? The most updated one, I mean...

I should design an alternative to this case, a thinner option

Unfortunately, there is no way to allow user-specific FM ratings using a static website generator.

    The link works.

Are you using windows to connect to the Lady Jo site, as for some reason that link does not work when I use my IPad, but does when I use my laptop.

This is what I see actually...

But yeah, I'm pretty sure I understood what u meant by saying "a continual montage of loaded screenies": something like a screenshots slider (https://www.jssor.com/demos/image-slider.slider)?

Don't know why the link does not work for you

But yes, a type of screenshot slider.

You maybe able to access what Athalle has done by going to the main page and following the links to the individual missions at the top left of the screen. But she hasn't done it for all the missions yet, just the earlier releases I believe. http://ladyjo1.free.fr/thief/

    Considered some changes as suggested.

    1. A Fan Mission Single Page Template for a specific campaign's FM:

    2. A Fan Mission Single Page Template for a specific FM:

So, as you can see, I relocated the screenshots into a new sidebar section. When a video from YT isn't available (no ID specified), then the screenshots take his location in the template.

Also, an important message is displayed when a Fan Mission is part of a campaign.

This looks really good Enybola, professional, easy on the eye and attractive.

When do you expect to launch this archive?

I also note that you are French and in the above examples have entered all typing in French, will you continue doing that and rely on google to automatically translate the mission details (which sometimes can produce total garbage) or when you launch, will you use English.
