    Games with the 0451 keycode

The 0451 keycode came up during some immersive sim talk recently and when I looked around the net I couldn't find any comprehensive lists of all the games that use it. But I figure that if any community can crowdsource this thing it's TTLG! Here's what I got so far, feel free to fill in my blindspots/issue corrections/elaborate on explanations.

    System Shock (1994)
451 appears as the code for the first locked door in the first level.

    Crusader: No Regret (1996)
    Appears as 451. Unlocks a semi-secret area.

    Sanitarium (1998)
The code 451 opens the gate to the pumpkin patch.

    System Shock 2 (1999)
45100 appears as the code for the first locked door in the first level.

    Deus Ex (2000)
The code 0451 unlocks the comms van outside UNATCO in the first level.

    Deus Ex: Invisible War (2003)
Though the number does not appear as a code it is used as the room number of the first unlockable door of the game.

    Bioshock (2007)
0451 is used to open the first locked door.

    Bioshock 2 (2010)
The code 1540 (0451 reversed) opens the first locked door in the first level.

    Deus Ex: Human Revolution (2011)
0451 is the code to David Sarif's elevator. It is used again as the first code in The Missing Link DLC.

    Dishonored (2012)
451 is the code to the first safe you come across after breaking out of prison while going through the sewers.

    Bioshock Infinite (2013)
0451 is the only code in the game.

    Gone Home (2013)
0451 is the first code found, unlocks a file cabinet.

    The Novelist (2013)
The location of the house is 451 Torrington Road.

    Deus Ex: The Fall (2013)
The code 0451 opens the door to Mikhail Kontarsky's hideout in Hotel Novoe Rostov.

    Spirits of Xanadu (2015)
0451 is the keycode for the brig.

    Neon Struct (2015)
It's the code for an office you have to break into.

    Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (2016)
The code 0451 unlocks the first door encountered during the Dubai mission. A Heated Combination achievement is awarded for entering the code instead of hacking the lock.

    Deus Ex GO (2016)
It is the code needed to access Novak's secret lab.

    Firewatch (2016)
    Unlocks a supply crate.

    Dishonored 2 (2016)
0451 is used twice in the same building, first early in the game, and second towards the end.

    Mafia III (2016)
0451 is mentioned as the keycode to an elevator in a cutscene leading up to the Tony Derazio mission.

    Prey (2017)
The code to the office of the protagonist on the Talos 1 Space Station is 0451.

I don't know if it's comprehensive, but there's a list in the Bioshock wiki under Cultural References: http://bioshock.wikia.com/wiki/BioSh...ral_References

It's in both Dishonored games too (although necessarily shortended to 451 to fit safe combo locks). In the first game, it's the first safe you come across after breaking out of prison while going through the sewers, and in the second it's used twice in the same building, first early in the game, and second towards the end. That building is also the home of someone you robbed in the first game IIRC.

Bioshock Infinite, it's the only code in the game AFAIR.

A very hidden 0451 can be used to disarm the lock in First City Bank and Trust in Thief 2

Cool idea for a thread. Just did a quick search, looks like in the game Sanitarium (1998), the code 451 opens the gate to the pumpkin patch. I haven't played that game for years, so I don't remember that part at all.

The code in Dishonored 2 is to the safe of Dr. Galvani. If you've forgotten the first game, he's the guy whose lab you visit while doing an errand for Granny Rags near the beginning.

So what is the significance of the code? As in, why is it used so often?

It was originally a reference to Fahrenheit 451, but it kind of took on a life of its own. IIRC, Ion Storm studio's outer physical door literally had that as its code, and new employees were expected to just know that.

It was the door code at Looking Glass Studios.

I know Neon Struct has it. I don't remember what level but it was the code for the office you had to break into.

Typically, it was also the first code you came across in a game. Not sure how many games toyed with this idea, but e.g. in Prey it's not the first one, but it's a key to your office where you get major plot reveal (so it's kind of first important one).

As well as being the code to your office on Talos 1 Prey also has another nice nod to this, the apartment that the player starts in is number 4509 so when you leave your apartment at the start of the game you face the opposite door which is numbered 4510 so it's one of the first number you see in the game.

I know for sure Project Maiko will have the number at some point in the game. /selfplug
