    See, there's so many licensing opportunities. I was thinking it could even have a movie. Maybe starring Vin Diesel. XxX - I Am Boxxx.

    They did miss a trick in not calling the third Xbox design the XCube - they could have even shaped it appropriately and gotten a nice bit of marketing cachet.

    I think XXX is already being licensed all across the internet?

    Hmm, so you're saying that I thought I was looking at Vin Diesel all along? Oh dear. So much for laying pipes.

    I am aware of that, but then again I don't think anyone has actively tried to make sure a SteamVR title won't work with Oculus Rift yet either.*

    As RoadToVR says:

    Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 4 VR will launch on the HTC Vive in October 2017. While most Vive games are built on Valve’s OpenVR and technically support the Rift too, it’s unclear if the game will actively block Rift support via OpenVR due to Bethesda parent company Zenimax’s unpleasant history with Oculus.
    *oh wait, yes I can! Google Earth VR on Steam didn't work straight out of the box for Oculus Rift, it needed a hack to get going.

    Methinks you may want to take a deeper look at Zenimax / Bethesda.

    I mean sure, if you assume the Oculus = Facebook, yeah, they don't come out looking great. But if you remove that association, Oculus themselves are pretty cool. Palmer made a few stupid mistakes, but how he spends his money is his own problem, and he's no longer associated with Oculus.

    But Zenimax / Bethesda are dickwads of the highest order. The amount of IP they've taken from developers through nefarious legal shenanigans is nauseating. The Human Head situation wasn't the first or last example of their tactics. I'm pretty sure they approached the acquisition of id in exactly the same way, they DEFINITELY did the same to Interplay and Fallout, and I have my suspicions about Arkane. In fact, I'm willing to bet that for anything that isn't The Elder Scrolls, they pulled exactly the same shit every time.
    And there even appears to be bad blood between the creator of The Elder Scrolls and Zenimax / Bethesda.

    NeoGaf's got a couple of deep, well sourced threads about what utter assholes Zenimax / Bethesda are.

    Give those a read and see if you still hold the same opinion afterwards.

    Sorry, I tend to get a bee in my bonnet when it comes to Zenimax / Bethesda.

    Some people don't like Oculus because they dare to have platform "exclusives" that they funded themselves (and probably haven't even broken even yet) and that actually can be used with the Vive (sometimes even for free). I'm not one of those people.

    Ori is pretty but the gameplay is a little underwhelming. I got it because it looked great and looked fun. There are better platformers.

    I noted the difficulty curve for it, which is indeed weird, but the rest of the platforming worked fine for me. Sure, there's niggles - Ori tends to be a small part of all the level real estate, which means it's hard to notice a wayward spike in the way until you run into it, but it had a good amount of variety in its ideas at regular points that made up for this. If there was a 2D platformer that did platforming better outside of Nintendo in 2015, I'm unaware of it.

    Shadow of the Colossus remake

    The news that BG&E2 is going to be some sort of persistent multiplayer-flavoured experience makes me incredibly irate, and no amount of sweary monkey is going to fix that.

    Anyway, Spiderman and God of War look like legitimate things to add to the 'things to play when I get a PS4' list. They look like near Hollywood-level animated movies playing in real-time at this point. Also, another version of Shadow of the Colossus? The revamp looks very pretty, but it's still the same game we've likely played twice over by now.

    Eh. If there's one game that deserves a complete remake, it's Shadow of the Colossus. It really did come out a couple generations too soon.

    It was pretty much perfect in the PS3 remaster. I'd argue if you wanted a remake to stand with the titles of this generation, they haven't gone far enough with the visuals then, since it's basically new lighting, higher resolution textures, and embellishments.

    What needs to happen is preservation of PS3 games like Abysmal said. Now that the PS3 has stopped production, I don't want ZoE 2 HD, Okami HD, Ni No Kuni, and many others sinking back into the darkness of the dead past. Especially Hexadrive's Okami remaster: a game like that disappearing again wouldn't be fair at all.

    If there's one franchise I'd be content with if they just iterated on the previous version and made it better, it's The Crew. Weak vehicle handling, silly storyline, and too much gamey bullshit kept the original from being the crosscountry roadtrip game of my dreams. I'd love it if the sequel just fleshed out the world and improved the handling. That said, I'm not mad that they're also adding crazy Inception-shit and the ability to transform your car into a boat or a plane on the spot. I just hope they're not forgetting what matters most, that it feels good to play. NY is looking very impressive in the demo video as well, hope they can keep up that level of detail for all the game's cities. Hype level: moderate.

    To be honest, the Shadow of the Colossus remake is the only E3 announcement to date that has got me excited, although to be fair I've not read a lot of coverage or watched all that many videos yet. I've played SotC twice, on PS2 and PS3, and it's one of my all-time favourite games. It's not exactly the same situation as Criterion announcing a Blu-ray release of Tarkovsky's Stalker, but it feels the same to me.

    I'm gonna be a hypocrite and say that, barring ridiculous bullshit like Bluepoint making it a happy story or something, I'm still gonna get that remaster when I get a PS4. It's not like my SotC HD Blu-Ray's usable at this point without a PS3. Of course, we'll be back at the same crossroads when the PS5 comes out and PS4 production halts, but long-form manoeuvring is for people who play chess.

    The what now? Don't tell me they just took a yet another Ubisoft open world game and slapped the title BG&E2 on it?

    Here you go: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/201...space-pirates/

    Ubiblurb from that: 'As you rise from lowly pirate to legendary captain, you’ll traverse System 3 at light speed to explore freely on your own or with friends. Presenting its solar system as a massive, seamless online environment, Beyond Good and Evil 2 gives players the chance to dive into the foundations of the franchise’s universe while traveling between diverse planets and moons in search of adventure.'

    That's just sad, though I really should not have expected anything from Ubisoft. I would have even been fine with the spiritual successor prequel stuff, if the game was anything like the original. Now this is just insulting.

    Hey, at least Christophe Héral's back doing the soundtrack for it. He's been away from this for way too long.

    Ok. Yesterday I watched the Bethesda conference. Highlights:

    * Dishonored 2 DLC
    * Wolfenstein 2 (misleading title but meh).

    And that's about it. Though the Microsoft trailers shown in the video (I linked earlier) were interesting. Assassin's Creed - Origins looks good.

    Today I watched the PC Gaming Show conference. Highlights:

    * Age of Empires Remastered
    * Battletech
    * Shadows of War
    * XCOM 2 Expansion

    And a few of the indie titles looked interesting. This conference felt more organised than the previous 2 I'd watched (EA and Bethesda's). Solid content throughout. Tomorrow I'll watch the Ubisoft Conference. Was funny when the dev from the Age of Empire's team mentioned developing games for DOS and there was dead silence from the crowd as most of them probably don't even know what that is/was. I'm getting old I think .
