Dark Souls 2 SL1 videos occasionally

I was bullied into doing this , but anyway, here are some bossfights from my current SL1 run in Dark Souls 2 Scholar. I did this before in vanilla, so it's not uncharted territory, thought back then I summoned for some of the bosses, will try to solo as much as I can this time.

I didn't record the first few bosses, and I'm not gonna do the trivial ones (sorry Covetous Demon). I'm using a normal broadsword and a magic mace right now, plus a crossbow for mobs. I have to two hand all of these. I used the broadsword for Najka, since I figured she's resistant to magic. Worked out well enough, got it first try.

After that I upgraded the magic mace to +8, which I'm gonna use a lot, I think. Next up was Royal Rat Vanguard, first try too.

And last one for today was the Ruin Sentinels. This one took a few tries, but I managed to get them using a safe strat for the part when I have to fight two at once. During this fight, there were two times I accidentally used a firebomb instead of an estus, but don't tell anyone.

Yeah? And it looks like you know what's good for you.

Excellent videos. But why no music?

These (and Renzatic's) movies are nice to look at some times. Keep them coming.

    Can I ask a semi-related question ?
What software are you using to capture these movies ?
And what software do you use to edit them ? (I assume you edit them slightly after capturing. At least to show only the successful attempts).

I might try to make a movie myself, if it isn't too complicated.
I got a SSD (with loads of free space still) and a gtx1080, so hardware should not be an issue, I guess ?

I've been playing these games without music for a while. As much I like the soundtracks, they are more immersive for me this way.

As for the software, I use Open Broadcasting Software to record and Sony Vegas to edit. I have to convert the raw recording from .flv to .mp4 with Any Video Converter before Vegas is willing to load them though. I can make screenshots of the specific settings I use in each program if you're interested. Also, my PC is ancient compared to yours Gryz, you won't have to worry about performance.

I use the Geforce Experience. It's about the most dead simple stupid easiest thing to use. You just hit Alt+Z to bring up the UI overlay in any game, and tell it to record (or, alternately, set a shortcut specifically to begin/end recording). I've set mine to produce uncompressed 60FPS MP4s, all but giving me a 1:1 record of everything that I'm seeing onscreen.

If I ever get around to editing my videos, I'll probably end up using DaVinci Resolve. I've had it installed for awhile, but have only barely dabbled in it.

Btw, that moment when the hitboxes are too good...

Thanks for the suggestions for software. I'm a bit hesitant to install any additional nVidia software, besides just the drivers. I might give Open Broadcaster Software a try some day. I hardly have time to play videogames. So it might take a while before I find time to mess with movies. But still thank you both.

I use GeForce Experience as well. It has this feature where it's basically always recording, so you can at any time hit Alt+F10 to save the last 5 minutes of gameplay, in case you suddenly realize you've done something amazing that needs to be saved for posterity. On top of that it's very smooth, performance wise, I haven't noticed any slowdown of the games as a sideeffect, like I have with other recording software, and you can have it always running, so you don't have to remember to start it each time you're about to start a game. Out of the recording software I've used it's easily the most convenient.

OBS can record constantly to memory as well, allowing you to save the last X minutes at any point. Just saying. I recorded these by starting manually though.

Cool videos, more please. It's fun to watch someone who knows what they're doing (I could never figure out how to avoid Najka's burrow attack, well duh, I see now I just needed to stand on something solid!). Being still on my first run in DS2 (or any souls game for that matter), I was thinking of recording some boss fights too, if for nothing else, comedic value for the vets around here. I know there's a way to save and upload vids on PS4, just have to figure out how to do it.

Mytha was next. I can't dodge her reliably, so I went for a safer method. Had a few close calls, but got it first try. Don't tell anyone about 3:20 though...

    uuhhhHHNUH. ...aww.

You know, I have never seen her do that move where she throws her head, then dives for it after it explodes. That's pretty cool.

Najka, second round. Ascetic'd the bonfire so I can get the Southern Ritual Band +2. The fight went pretty smoothly for the most part, managed to manipulate the AI well, and got good RNG. Also, while I still play without music, I added some to this video in post production, to spice things up.

Today I got the Old Iron King and the Lost Sinner. In the OIK fight, I had to juggle the pyro flame and the work hook (+5 dex, -3 adp), because I need the latter the use the rapier, but it makes my iframes worse and I also wanted to poison the boss with toxic mist. It worked out in the end, though I accidentally messed up the switching at one point and punched the boss in face. I guess he deserved it.

As for the Lost Sinner, it's too difficult to dodge for me, so I went for the safe method. I only recorded this because it's a lord boss, but it's probably very boring to watch (wasn't as boring to do, though ).

Duke's Dear Freja down. This fight was quite difficult in the vanilla game, but Scholar added the mechanic where spiders don't attack you if you carry a torch, which made it really easy. The way I kill it is pretty much the optimal way. Bait the laser attack, punish the other head, repeat until victory. If only the mobs would let me celebrate after...

EDIT: Also, I have no idea what determines if the video thumbnail is high res or low res. This one looks good, but the previous two is like from a 240p video...

As far as I can tell, the thumbnail selection process is an entirely random one. Sometimes you luck out, most of the time you don't.

Also, are you planning on SL1'ing the expansions as well?

No, the goal now is just to finish the game. I skipped bosses already (like Smelter Demon, Royal Rat Authority, Chariot, Old Dragonslayer). I'm not ruling out returning to this character later to do optional stuff though.

Aw, shame. Though it's probably the safest choice for your sanity.

There are times when everything just goes right in a bossfight. This was one of those fights.
