Is changing the resolution of a stock texture allowed? Or are we stuck with either endlessly repeating textures at lower scales, or very blurry ones at higher scales?

I would say so, as the applicable rule says nothing against it, only about creating textures which are clearly derivative.

    - Contestants can combine existing stock textures to create new ones (terrain/objects/meshes). New textures need to be clearly identifiable as stock derivatives. A description of which textures you used to create new ones is welcome.

Thanks, yeah, that's the way we were thinking about it too. Our only concern was whether it would go against the spirit of the contest by not keeping it low-res like the OMs. But if no one objects, our eyes will be pleased, lol.

Would any new authors like to collaborate? If your cutting your teeth on Dromed with this contest, I can aid you with your project; just tell me what to do and I'll do it. I have experience building TG missions and extensive knowledge of Dromed. If you're struggling, I can help you get over the hump, whether it's story, architecture, lighting, ambience, etc. Any way I can make your FM a reality.

I wanted to get involved in this contest, but the current campaign I'm working on wouldn't be accepted due to custom content. I figured this would be a great way to help out a new author, give to this community of wonderful taffers, and get involved in the contest. Let me know if we can work together and make your level what you dreamed!

The moon textures from the optional resource pack won't work when I set them up through New Sky. Why aren't they working?

EDIT: nvm I solved the problem. They weren't working because I had the textures in the wrong folder.

    They were in TG>Fam>Skyhw

but I changed the path to

    TG>MODS>t2skies>FAM>Skyhw

Are there going to be categories, ie: veteran, newbie, team, etc? It looks like there are a lot of people entering, so I'm just curious.

Not sure if that'll work when you package the mission up. I could be wrong though.

It won't unless the user has the same modpath as he does. My moon texture is in TG>fam>skyhw and it works fine.

Since I'm here in this thread, I'll report that the first mission of the two in my entry is now in its second Beta test, and so I'm about to start whole hog on the second mission, which I've barely begun.

Do you know how I could change the path to work the same as yours? I became really frustrated trying to find out what the problem was so I put the textures in my MODS folder as a last resort. I'd like if they worked from just TG>fam>skyhw but when I tried using them from there the moon wouldn't show up at all.

I have no idea honestly. Do other textures you have under fam work in game?

My mission is slowly taking shape too. I'm actually beginning to like it myself. 1201 brushes and 1563 objects.

Okay so I got rid of the MODS folder and put skyhw back in the regular FAM folder and now it works all of a sudden. Strange but at least it works now

Another thing, I was wondering if we have a full list of all non-anonymous participants? I'm really excited to see how many missions will come out of this great contest

I started a list in the first few weeks and it had at least 15 names, and while there are no doubt some I didn't know about or who have come along since then, there will also no doubt be some who do not finish. If we end up with 10 I think everyone will be thrilled.

Considering the talent involved, I'd be happy with just a few missions. 10 and I'd be over the moon!

@skacky: does the limitation on custom resources also preclude custom books? I don't mean changing the general book art; I mean specific, unique readables where they're done as an image because text alone wouldn't suffice: like the Keeper's map in THC, and the Book of Ash in LotP. I'd like to include one or two such within my mission if they're allowable.

this is going to sound strange to a lot of people but concerning books,i have played a hand full of fan missions where sometimes i see a book different titles but always talk about "kevel"

starting to think there must be some sub group of mission makers where that has some meaning to more then we the regular play knows about

why is kevel mentioned so much in books titles=if you see a book in a bookshelf and frob it the title appears on screen, not a readable book, but kevel is in title

maybe he is the god character from thief universe?

@downwinder: "Is that you, Cavil?" or Kevel, or however you want to spell it is one of the female servant's lines for level one alert: SV2A1__3 in fact. It's just a bit of an in-joke to reference it.

isn't there a hilarius convo in one of the (early) fanmissions where there is a wife upstairs ranting to "kevel" (who is always drunk) when you enter a house, near a canal/water If I remember correct...

Yeah it’s from the Keeper of The Prophecies campaign by frobber. I was watching fenphoenix’s playthrough of it not too long ago and your description of it is spot on
