    Snow effect

It's nice to change the look of the place for Christmas, but I think the blue snow is distracting. It looks like there's been an explosion in a plastics factory.

    Something more subtle:

That logo is far too artistic to meet the quality standards we maintain on this forum (so of course it's going to be nabbed, thanks!). I've toned down the snow a little too

The blue snow looks much less strange on the dark theme. I like how it takes a while for the snow to reach the bottom of the thread.

x_x animations over the page one is supposedly expected to read ... brilliant idea!

u-block origin -> dashboard -> my filters -> add line (without quotes) "/snowstorm*.js"

It's only active for a few days. If you find it difficult to read then head over to "Settings" (in the top right), then choose "General Settings" from the list on the left and at the bottom there's an option to turn it off.

Was simpler to just whack it with a hammer instead of digging into options, but good to know the option exists (as long as you are logged in i presume).

    Cheers.

The intent was cute, but the execution not so much.

It's the closest we'll get to snow in Ireland.

Have you never had to deal with crap like this on peoples machines ?

Something odd happens on your PC the first thought is "Sh*t I've been infected somehow" and it's only after you've disconnected the internet, started the virus scans & malwarebytes & spybot searches you look for something else

A little warning would be nice next time

I like the snow too, it's warmer than the real thing. But I never have my browser at full volume so it was easy to see that it was only on the forum.

Would like some real snow - instead of the bleak and dark mud-field outside. Snow at the end of December has become increasingly rare here. Kind of miss it.

( still not missing it enough to accept the phony replacement )

Geez. I've only ever seen that much snow twice in my entire life. I don't think I could handle that year after year after year.

...well, maybe I could, cuz then I could sled more.

I like snow, but this snow effect made my GPU fan go wild, so no more snow for me. Now I have to login every time I want to visit here, without having to listen to my fans making silly noises, but maybe that motivates me to post more -- not necessarily better, but more -- so maybe the snow effect isn't the pure evil I first thought it was.

By the by, last we had real winter here was three or four years ago, but at least we then had a good one with the perfect amount of cold and snow, and I think I counted to being out skiing at least ten times over the course of two weeks, so almost every day. In time for Christmas each year I hope for that kind of winter again, but no -- and, verily, TTLG's snow effect is a constant mockery of my suffering: IF I CAN'T HAVE SNOW, NO÷NE SHOULD HAVE IT.

    Goodbye snow..
Of course you do realise you've set a precedent for themed Forum visuals that reflect the multitudinous
national/ethnic celebratory traditions of Ttlg folk, lest anyone feel left out. The St Patrick's Day theme had better rock, is all I'm saying.
