Thief 2 FM : Lord Alexander's Mansion by Svetoslav Alexandrov (7 august 2018)

(Intro video by Karol Kolbusz, also known here as Aemanyl)

Author's note: The last half year was very dynamic for me, with many personal events that led to a lasting impact in my life. That's why I felt extremely nostalgic about my childhood. This FM is loosely inspired by the place I lived in where I was a small kid. It's not an architectural marvel, but I hope you'll enjoy it.

Intro text: Rumor has it that Lord Alexander owns a prized scepter that has been passed down through the generations. I have experience stealing scepters and this one is guaranteed to be more valuable than the one I got from Lord Bafford. It's a good enough reason to pay a visit to Lord Alexander's mansion. A trusted source told me that His Lordship is on holiday out of the city with his wife. Still, I don't expect to be a welcome guest on his property.

There's no doubt that the scepter is well protected, and I have yet to decide which strategy is best for this job. I'm not a fan of front doors, as they're always well-guarded, however this time it may be worth the risk if I'm able to sneak past the guards. I’ll be close to Alexander's bedroom, which is the perfect place to look for information on the scepter's whereabouts.

The mansion also has a side gate, which is usually protected by a single swordsman. If I decide to go that way, I'll have to find my way past the guards on the inside. Of course, there's also a third option. A careless servant could have left an open window and I won't forget to bring some rope arrows just in case.

Patience is not one on my virtues, so there's no point in waiting – I’ll just head in and improvise. It's time to reinforce my reputation as a stealer of royal symbols. Who knows? I may be reborn as a noble in my next life.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

System information: Windows PC with Thief 2 installed and patched with NewDark. Don't unzip the mission, use a FM loader instead. NewDarkLoader compatible.

Other info: Since this FM relies a lot on custom resources, high-res packs won't interfere with the gameplay.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    Special thanks to:

Aemanyl (Karol Kolbusz) for creating the Intro Video.

Nightwalker (Linda) for editing and proofreading the in-game books.

People who provided custom resources, which made my missions possible: Vigil, Squadafroin, Nick Dablin (Nicked),
Vaughan Cooper (Sluggs), Pinkdot, Dale, RSoul, Eshaktaar, LarryG/Olga's Gallery/abcgallery.com, Schwaa, Christine, Von.Eins, as well as the T2X team and Team Rose Cottage.

Betatesters: Aemanyl (Karol Kolbusz), john9818a (John Denison), bob_doe_nz, Gloria Creep

    More thanks :
Thief Object Repository : http://spirited-tech.com/thief/ . It's a great place to find custom objects.
Nick Dablin's website: https://nickdablin.wordpress.com . I am thankful to the efforts Nick puts to maintain this website - it really helped me to learn some more things about DromEd.
Brethren's website: http://southquarter.com . Another great website with a lot of resources.
TTLG : http://www.ttlg.com. Okay, this one is obvious
Pedro Quintela - he has been an inspiration to me for quite some time, as being a productive author.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Known issues: -Sometimes the guards are unable to climb the stairs in the library
-You are unable to use your bow or a sword if you are located on the beds in the bedrooms
-Sometimes pathfinding of the fish in the fountain gets bugged.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    Have fun!

Congratulations on the release BT, look forward to playing it tonight.

72mb. Is this your biggest mission so far?

I don't know if it's the biggest: perhaps my mission HGS - Secrets of Avidan was bigger. First City College may be bigger, too. The problem is that when you rely too much on custom objects, it gets beefed up, but it's not a guarantee for a longer play.

This mission : Lord Alexander's Mansion can be completed in 20 minutes on Normal, but on Expert it could take 40-45 minutes, as the guards are tricky. Use moss and noisemaker's arrows.

Sup Thor, glad to see you're still alive

Too bad you couldn't test it. More Thief, less complaining about real life next time

Just a thing you should consider doing for your next missions :

In dromed command box type: "Build_dlg"

And set it to your likening, this can improve the quality of several things.

Hm... 32-bit lightning? I'm still using the old-fashioned 16-bit objcast lightning.

With new-Dark 1.26 you can have it with better quality, youŽll notice the difference in the limit between light and shadow, it looks more realistic. This is why i wanted to test your mission but i was in holidays at Porto. if you plan to release another version i can make you doorframes since you were having difficulty to add them.

No prob, everybody has real life issues Thanks for the tips, I still haven't got accustomed to NewDark, but this will be useful - especially when I build more complicated from architecture point of view churches and temples.

I admit - I never even thought about doorframes, and that's why I didn't include them in the beginning Silly me, I know.

    Here are my settings:

... the only difference is 16-bit lighting. Okay, changing that in the future

Wasn't complaining bro. But I did lack the time and the energy to install get my OS + Thief installations in order for this grand event. But you went ahead of me anyway, so I'll probably get to it soon. It's been over 10 years since I've been here after all. And 10 days minus a week since the last piece of Digi was released to the public.

    Delete Linux.

    Install Windows.

    The command is: sudo su
    rm -rm /

Removes Linux and all of your files effectively

Yes i know those are you build_dlg settings, that's why i suggested you to change them for better settings, 32-bit for example is always a good option.

Okay, I'll change these for my next build 1.5, if there's such I'll take a break from Thief during World of Warcraft launch, perhaps later - possibly autumn. By then, the translators team will also be ready with translating the readables, I presume.
