    Random thoughts...

This is an easy one. Whatever happened to you today or whatever thought popped into your head or anything you want to share. Random shit. I'll start.

I have been feeding crows for two damn years every morning when I get to work. You see, I go by my moms before work every day to check on her and make sure she is okay and doesn't need anything and we talk a bit. She is way on up there in years and I worry about her. She always has a bacon biscuit for me and even though I have told her not to go to the trouble it makes her happy so I eat a bit of it as I talk with her. The rest I take to work and feed the crows. They wait on the light lines most mornings and I've torn the biscuit into pieces so I just dump my paper plate out and they watch from there and I go into the building. BUT before I do I look at them and say "nevermore". A stupid homage to Poe's Raven poem. I've been doing this doggedly for two years. No results. Yesterday as I did it I said the perfunctory "nevermore" and started to walk away when one of them said "neh mo". I was stunned. I said "never more" and one said "neh mo" in response again. I was so happy I kept saying it and it kept repeating it. I said it all the way from my parking spot to the building and it responded every time. It's not earth shattering but it made my day. I had given up on it ever happening.

Today there was only one crow and I said it and it just looked at me like I was crazy. I have to figure out which crow can talk but how the hell do you tell one crow from another?

    So what's your random shit?

I just found the ass half of a dead mouse sitting in front of my breezeway door. It wasn't there the last time I went outside, but it's there now.

Normally, this wouldn't be much of a concern for me. I have cats. It's what cats do. I should be thankful it wasn't a snake again. Thing is, all my cats are put up in the garage for the night.

    ...so who left the mouse?

Somebody likes you but not enough to give you the top half.

Which is the same thing as saying they don't like me at all.

Hey man, brains are gooooood. Ask any zombie. Which reminds me, my daughter is at a wedding in Florida so tomorrows zombie run will be shit without her. I'm just not going to go. Funny how you realize it's not an event you like but who you are with.

But yeah, who wants the ass end?

We have a typical "entertainment center" cabinet that holds the cable box, consoles, and stuff. The front is "baby proofed" but it's half a foot from the wall behind to allow ventilation. Well, our younger daughter just loves to throw stuff back there when she's done with them. Lots and lots of toys, and more problematically, the occasional sippy cup or food item. Our older daughter has taken to "borrowing" a bungee cord with a hook on the end, and "fishing" behind the entertainment cabinet. She even calls it that. Heck, sometimes she pulls up toy fish. Hasn't pulled up a real one... Yet...

Uh... well, as long as you aren't gooey. I had to laugh at the fishing for toys story, Pyrian. Reminded me of Halloween carnivals in my youth where one fished with a clothes pin attached to a string on a pole flung behind a screen wherein someone clipped a packet of goodies. Halloween is on my mind tonight. I had a few toddies of cider spiked with Captain Morgan spiced rum as we sat around the fire and told ghost stories at my sons tonight. Some of them true. I came home and wetransfered my latest episode of Count Eeflac to the station. I had enlisted my brother for this one. It was Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein. Not fond of old horror/comedy but the station owner wanted it. I had him as my neighbor Frank with stein which I took from him to put him into my coffin done up with various electrical devices which fried him into a skeleton. FRANKly I think I'm better than the average horror host. I impart knowledge of the film and how it fits into the genre as a whole while performing a skit. Most, including Svenghoulie, are way more lame.

I missed the zombie run. I hope it was a success for them but without my daughter it just would not be the same. Here is a pic of runs past.

I can only imagine. He he

We have a bird's nest of cables behind our entertainment credenza and fireplace next to it, so we just fenced the whole thing off:

My son does throw toys over the gate from time to time, but our rule is that it stays there for a few days to a week before he can have it back.

You do not want to know what is on my mind at this moment, it will be a very lengthy whiny rant. It would be about something I lost and can never get back. But this isn't about that.

So, instead, I'll go with my second most recent thought. I have decided to adopt a new online behaviour policy. Well, it's not really new, I'm just extending it to my various little spheres of interest, and unfortunately TTLG is just the last one. I started with YouTube.

A few years ago, I decided that I would only ever comment on a YouTube video if I had something positive to say. The internet is full of idiots, and we all know all too well how seemingly harmless comments can escalate to ridiculous proportions. So, I decided, if I was to say anything at all, it must be positive. I'm pretty sure I've managed that so far. I've praised several awesome bands on their great songs. I have said nothing about the inane crap that makes me want to rip out my ears and stuff them down my throat to prevent me from vomiting. I keep those thoughts to myself.

Then I expanded it a bit. Facebook. Now I hate how people behave on FB, and the stupid and inane things they post, but again, I decided to never post my displeasure. No sarcasm, which is quite hard for me as a bitter old cynic. Negative comments breed negative comments. Everything escalates. And suddenly you have an idiot in the White House. So, I only post when I feel strongly positive about something, which is quite rare, so I don't post a lot, but my point still stands.

Since my recent return to TTLG, I have not yet adopted this philosophy here. But, I feel I really should. I shouldn't expose you poor innocent bystanders to my own stupid negative opinions about things you like.

This is not about self-censorship, though. If there is an important discussion to be had, and I have a strong opinion about it, I will voice it, regardless of what it happens to be, but largely, I will try to stay with my above policy. Sticking to that also makes me somewhat more immune to trolls. It's clearly not a perfect method, but it has stopped me more than once from posting something stupid, just pausing for one second to think "is this positive, or by posting this, will I make things worse?". It's starting to become second nature. I just need to stick to it.

It's just like your mother used to say. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. It's just that simple.

Every morning there's a spiderweb on my driver-side-view mirror. I clean it off - but next morning it's there again. Every day, we each wish the other would stop it already.

    LOL Pyrian.

I try to control myself. Sometimes I win and sometimes lose. I would love to be absolutely honest all the time but I'm certain that wouldn't work out so well. Selective honesty is perfectly okay with me.

Did a couple of Count Eeflac episodes for the station. I don't mind them so much though I wish I could pick stuff other than public domain. It has forced me to watch some I would never have seen and that is sometimes good. Spider Baby was enjoyable and one of Rob Zombie's favorites. He even used one of the stars in it as Captain Spalding. It was the last sober role of Lon Chaney Jr. and he was good in it. I wish I didn't have to do promotional stuff though. Next weekend I have to play Eeflac at a Halloween party down at the station. I would so much rather go to Arx Mortis haunted house with my daughter like usual.

Oh hey, my nephew Spencer got his black belt in Kung Fu today. Pretty bit of badass.

If your opinion is forever unchanging then you've never actually had an opinion--you have a set predilection, one most likely formed by and adhering to the set predilections of someone else or a group.

Thanks for teaching me a new word, Q. I thought normally the word bias was used to describe liking over opinion, but I guess this sounds like it emphasises it even more.

I guess my one unique thought today was: If my life is in disharmony with your ideology of your life, I don't sleep. Changing ideology in my case is comparable to changing species, which seems impossible, and changing a deeply engraved way of life is probably comparable to changing the laws of physics. Needs a black hole.
