Thread: Garrett's Free Time

I'm not suggesting he left them because he wanted answers, necessarily, but rather because he felt suffocated by their secrecy. Kind of like the kid in Sunday school who keeps asking too many questions, but really just wants to go out and play.

"I know they're trying to manipulate me, but keepers never alter the truth... just keep it in the shadows."

Why did he get interested with stopping karras? He could of just left the city and let them all die and come back later to clean out the money. At least that's the impression I got from your previous quotes. Angry over their secrecy and leaving the order solved it! Yah, Your Garrett is not very logical.

Clearly leaving the order did not solve anything, as can be seen by their meeting at the end of the first game, but I believe that there is plenty of evidence that establish Garrett as someone who's pragmatic and self-interested. Why exactly he became angry with the keepers and had a falling out is not explicitly said anywhere, but, as I said, I don't think it's a very big of a stretch that it could tie into his upbringing and that Garrett might have resented the keeper education.

Why did he want to stop Karras? Because it became personal. Karras wanted him dead and it was heavily implied it was he who sent Truart and the watch after Garrett to dispense some swift justice. Did Garrett run when Ramirez sent assassins after him? No, he went and got even. And I don't think this was because of some altruistic principles or a sense of justice either.

I imagine Garrett doesn't have that much free time, although it would certainly depend on the season. Preparation is time consuming and an important part of his work that we only glimpse (Casing the Joint) because it's largely boring. I imagine a lot of heists are weeks in the making. Befriending the right people to get intel, getting the right tools for the job, planning escape routes and contingencies for when things go wrong, etc.

As for reasons he left the keepers, he clearly hates rules and authority, something the keepers have in spades, so it makes sense that he'd leave to forge his own path.

As for Karras, I agree that Garrett faces threats head on and won't likely run with his tail between his legs if he is personally targeted. Also by the time Karras had nearly hatched his plan it was probably too late to get out of dodge, and I imagine Garrett DOES have some small collection of real friends that he cares about and wouldn't feel comfortable leaving for dead.

Besides, what would he be eating if all organic material would have been turned into rust by Karras?

As far as the actual question of this thread is concerned:
I don't think that he has that much free time at this hands as does the rest of the lower-class people in a "medieval world". Most of them had to work their asses off in order not to starve to death.
Getting through the day was a full-time job back then for 99% of the population.

Why so many Servants to deploy the agent? To insure all the nobility were killed. If it was so lethal 1 Servant would be enough anywhere in the world. Like many agents in the real world it dissipates and becomes inert over time. Karros and his followers expected to survive and spread there faith to other cities; at least until Karros became insane near the end. You can be assured that the followers kicked out of the safe buildings high-tailed it out of the city.

Cashing in loot through a fence. Purchasing weapons. Skulking around dive bars to get info for his next job. Sleeping off hangovers. Scouting the city from the shadows.

I also believe he drinks a lot. Since he is always working to pay the rent and gets some pretty big paydays, he must spend a lot. Drinking, gambling and ladies of the night come to mind.

Whatever free time Garrett has, he spends systematically throwing all his accumulated gear into the river. A habit he strangely stopped after defeating the Mechanists.

Also, we at least know he frequents the Crippled Burrick, so as has been said already he's likely into drinking and gambling.

can someone tell why you think garrett drinks?

i personally think he does not drink due to his keeper upbringing, way to risky in his line of work to be some drunk like benny

i checked some cutscenes to see if he drinks and found none,he refused woodsie lords drink, all liquor he gets is loot and not drinkable

is there something i am missing, remember garrett is the master thief not the master drunk

For me it's just inference. He probably drinks as a way of talking to contacts, and I'd guess he'd be the type to always make sure his companion had a lot more than him, because Garrett would never give someone else the advantage. The same goes for the gambling- put enough on the line to be convincing, but not enough to do any serious damage.

Nobody here thinks that Garrett is an alcoholic or that he drinks on the job.
