    Deep Cover screenshots!

Some of you may have heard of a Looking Glass project that was in development when the company closed in May 2000.   Deep Cover was slated to be one of the coolest games to leave the studio.   It was a gritty 1960's cold war spy action-adventure that had the elegance of thief and the depth of system shock 2.

The following screenshots were taken from very early versions of the levels ... before any gameplay was implemented, and well before Looking Glass decided to switch from the Dark Engine to the Siege Engine.

Levels were being developed by me, Nate Blaisdell, Ed Moore, Paul Hellquist, Rick Ernst, Mike Swiderek, Nate Wells, and Steve Kimura.   Some of these guys are currently working on The Lost at Irrational Games ... a game that I expect to be pretty cool when it's released.

    Visit http://www.somethingstrange.com/ttlg/deepcover/ for more screenshots.

    Wow, that looks pretty nice
The mere existence of a flamethrower indicates that somewhere, at some point in time, someone said, "Gee, I wish I could set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough."

    kinda breaks my heart,
    oh, what could've been.

and, i don't know, i think it totally screams dark engine.
"looks" a heckuva lot better than nolf (no knock on nolf, great game).

yeah, i saw it, looks like one of my lackluster dromed attempts...
actually, that guard tower looks pretty neat though, i like the way it's lit,...,simple, effective.

    dig that crazy pseudo-rolex interface.

Thanks -- I'm hoping to give Solus some better images of the interface (which had similarities to SS2, but was a lot more streamlined and stripped down, as DC was to be more like Thief in the end) sometime soon. The watch looks a little arse in the screenshots, as it only ever got hacked into the game, and was never in the game in it's final state.

When I post it all, I'll probably include an explanation of the functionality.

While DC ain't gonna be picked up by anyone as it is - it was little more than an idea at the time LG broke up, despite the screenshots - the concept is going to be reused and reimplemented if I have anything to do with it. So expect to see a DC-type game out someday in your lifetime.

A bloody shame that is, it looks really great....maybe i'm pushing it but i may as well ask...

Solus, do you think theres any chance that the project could be released unto the public? The editor and the resources and such that is...maybe we could do something with it?

I think DeusDarkus took part care of that for you.
The old resources are gone now...those were all prototypes. Right, solus?

Oh? So that means we're going to get the editor then? ..or that this DeusDarkus is already looking into it? Or....?
