    T2 FM: L'Arsene (Sep. 6, 2002)

L'Arsène is up at http://thief.math.uh.edu/missions in french and possibly in english very soon (depends on how much time Lurox is willing to give to it...). He says it will be over in a week and a half, not sooner because of school and all that...

    Thanks!

Terrific! Thanks for letting us know that it's ready, Lady Jo. I'm off to give it a try, even though I don't speak French. I should be able to figure out enough to get by with a translator program.

nice architechture, big city, no map grrr, me thinks i need to wait for english version translating was crude at best, well considering i dont speak or read french, i did figure out objectives they as follows for those wanting to know before they play this french fm :
    1) steal 1600 loot
    2) Recover your goods
    3) Retrieve and steal the trunk containg the aresen mask
    4) Capture the arsene and put into any one of the security offices
    5) guard the arsene in life ( make sure doesnt die in my point of view, hopefully a person)

so far i have yet to find 2, 4, 5, big mission still trying to get into the small gate that looks like a door near north quarter, i see a switch but havent found a way in,

Hint: make sure to look high and low, and feeling of key hunt comes to mind found 6 keys so far, prolly more yet.

    This is the real deal

Thieving has never felt so good and the places to hide!

I am not sure when i will finish this quest and I need a translater to read the scrolls but i do my best to find the loot and keys along the way.
I can't get over the stress of the women guards when the say, "come back here dam*#* It!"

Whoa! the BIG areas just make you want to jump up and down just to intimidate the guards in the HUGE surrounding areas ripping off the safes and dodging the cameras is so much FUN!

This Quest is one of great magnitude!

Ready your blackjack! and spare your arsenal for the thief guild opponents!!!

    For the thief guild

    For all
    spoiler:
To start, simplest is to find the key of the sewers.

Each found key leads to another district of the city and makes it possible to open another grid

It is the first mission of Gaëtane

L'Arsène, what it means for french people ?

I 've noticed many people asked 'bout l'Arsène : is it just a name...?

For french-speaking people and just a bit literated or serial-tv fans, it means a lot.

In the beginning of the 20th c, a french writer (Maurice Leblanc) created a character named "Arsène Lupin". He was a gentleman,... and a burglar who never shed blood and who disguised himself.

The work was adapted (& rewritten) for T.V broadcast (french-speakin' Tvs only I think) and it lasted for years...

Hope it enlightens your path to curiosity.

    End of my "ethnic" explanation

And good luck for the translator(s), some of the words, phrases used in this FM are very "french", if you need some help, just contact me...

    Lady Jo,

    Awsome mission! I love it.

I took French in High School, German in college, Russian, and Vietnamese in the service. What I remember of my French would fit in a thimble. But, I'm muddling through it. One of the things I love about this game, and this forum is the global popularity of it. The cultural comparisons, and off topic discussions are far more interesting than the game itself. We have FM authors (and players) here from France, Spain, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Russia, Czech, Hungary, Poland, Japan, Canada, Australia, U.K., and USA. (Did I miss anybody?)

Something odd though. One would think that French players would like it all in French. The voices are in English, the scripts are all in French. Do most French people understand spoken English that well, or should the French version include French voices as well?

Perhaps when our translators start working on this, there should be an all French version, and an all English version.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this wonderful FM, and releasing it for our little global community to enjoy.

I did not play with "The Longuest Journey"

    Viper 6

When I play a fm in english, if the original voices are employed, I hear them in French, if they are voices create by the author of fm, they are in English.

I LOVE THIS MISSION!!!!! I have a fealing that I am missing out on a lot of juicy information in the scrolls and parchments but have gotten pretty far without them. That prostitute is one mean wench!!! Guess she doesn't like rejection.

I need a little help though...

    I only have 7 keys:
silver clef des egouts (Key of the sewers?)
orange clef acces ville Nord Est (Key of access city North-East?)
    silver cle'
    blue cle'
    silver cle'
yellow clef du quartier Nord Key of the Northern district?)
    red clef de la bijouterie

I need help with the location of the other 2 keys. I have not been through the gate at the North-East most corner near "Chez Serge", nor have I met the "Recuperez vos biens" (recover my goods?) objective. Also I can see a thief sitting in front of a fire but haven't figured out how to get to him.

    EDIT----
Ooops! Make that 8 keys - I found another blue cle' that opens the NE gate that must be the abandoned district. Still haven't gotting to the above mentioned thief though.

    Diana,

    spoiler:
To arrive to the thief in front of a fire it is by the abandoned district and yes, the prostitute does not like to be rejected and she has the heavy hand
