    http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories...898008,00.html

released by nVidia to show off the new GeForceFX, it's Unreal Tech. Can any ISA peeps confirm or deny?

The lighting that creates the shadows in the background appears to be superior to anything I have seen in UT2k3.
ISA were supposed to be modifying the lighting engine.
Whether or not this is T3 that IS the level of detail we can expect.

    dear god.

    *Insert Homer Simpson drool*

Here is a snippet from the article:

"[Bill Rehbock] also showed us a screenshot of the same environment that included a character model wearing a retro-style mechanical armor suit. The timing and the visual style suggest that this screenshot could very well be from Thief 3, which is currently in development at Ion Storm."

Do retro-style mechanical armor suits sound thief-ish?

At any rate, thats a sweet screeny.

    SUPER SWEET!

My faith in Ion Storm is renewed, for a few more months at least. Looks like the video card in my new PC will be from Nvidia after all.

    Ghhhhhhk...

    Wow. That's impressive.

And yeah, that does look very thiefy. The thief games didn't include that exact type of Gothic architecture, but that's presumably because the Dark Engine couldn't deal with the smooth curves and arches that you can see in that image.

I really wish I hadn't seen that pic, because now all I can think about is thief 3 and how badly I want it now.

Has anyone else noticed that within the last 30 minutes, the Gamespot story has been edited to remove all of its references to Thief? Pretty sneaky, sis.

I wish I had copied and pasted the original article when I had a chance.

    Ohhhhh

Oh yesssss, that looks so awesome
UT2k3 can't hold a candle to that. I know this will have some people up in arms for me saying this, but the most recent pictures of DooM3 look to be about neck-and-neck with this.
You have so many nice things... let's share them.

Heh. No UT2k3 cant hold a candle to that, you're right. But that's because Thief 3 uses the same engine but with modifications...specifically: the lighting. So yeah, I dont think UT2k3 can hold a candle to that.

Neck to neck with Doom3? One cannot say. Doom 3 was fuck impressive [have you seen it in person?] but then in Doom3 we have more fat to chew. In this screenshot we get no models...and not much of a level. When we see the models...and a more complex area of the game...then we'll compare.

But I advise you: the comparison is useless. Been there done that this game has x that game has y. It got old a long time ago. I still remember when everything had to live up to Half-Life. Ugh.

I dont compare any of the new games anymore...the newer engines have surpassed what I have ever dreamed could be possible. I mean, I always dreamed it, but I never believed I'd see it come to pass.

Only yesterday I was sleepwalking Doom.
Only yesterday I was freaking out over the falling leaves in Hexen.

    This is very bad news.

If they're going to be hanging torches in fours like that how're we ever to sneak?

Dude - it's probably a "rough" dynamic screenie. It doesn't take into acount cross shadows, color tints and all the rest. Have a little faith will ya?!?

I think Ekim's post was in jest.

It's a very small area being rendered in that screenshot, which makes it possible to have a higher polygon count + higher res textures. Plus, you don't even know what kind of framerate that would be running at.

And no, I don't think it's "neck and neck" with Doom 3. Doom 3 is still a clear winner. Doom 3 actually has a lower polygon count on its models than UT2K3, but the texture detail and lighting is quite stunning. That may change when I get to see some of the lighting in Thief 3.

Also, I don't think that's a very accurate representation of T3. Call me a cynic. But since it's being developed very closely with Deus Ex 2, I think we can get a better idea of what T3 is going to look like by looking at screenshots of DX2.

Bad Ekim! That's a naughty Ekim!

I propose a formal tradition (since it's already an informal one) that every single thread on Thief 3 contain at least one post claiming it to be "very bad news." This will include future threads like "Thief 3 Released Today" and "A Look Back: Thief 3 Has Been on the Market for 2 Years."
