How to ghost T1 Bafford's throne room?

I was stuck outside Lord Bafford's throne room. I played in expert, there was a guard standing in front of the entrance. The floor was made of tile and the room was quite bright with the torches.

Could someone please tell me how to sneak past that guard without using any tools?

Ghosting usually does not mean that you were not allowed to use your equipment (water arrows, in this case.) It just means: Don't get caught and don't alert the NPCs.

With some perfect timing and a lot of luck, you can make it past the throne room in bright light though. Stick to the left wall and move (stutter-crouch) only when he is turned away from you. Yes, it is a pain and the enjoyability of that approach is... questionable.

the guard in the throne room doesn't face the left when he turns right?

and what kind of flooring was it again for the throne room?

Are you trying to be a smartass?

I do not have the compass directions of Bafford's Manor in mind anymore. Lets presume that the throne room is at the east side of the mansion.

=> Guard rotates into these directions: west (into the room infront of the throne room), south (to the right wall of the room infront of the throne room), east (into the throne room itself.)

That's why yer supposed to stick to the left (= the northern) wall.

(In the case that the throne room is actually at another side of the mansion, correct these compass directions accordingly.)

and what kind of flooring was it again for the throne room?
Noisy floor tiles (that's why you are supposed to stutter-crouch), and some carpets (which are in bright light, so you won't walk across these much.)

Um I was actually asking if he turns to the left when turning his attention away from the scepter and towards the entrance.

Oh, I understand now. It read like a "if someone is standing infront of you and turns to the right, doesn't he then watch to his left side now" when I first read your question.

What you meant was: does he turn counter-clockwise if rotating from the east to the west? (still presuming my compass directions are correct.)

That can happen, yes. It mustn't, though, as he picks the direction he wants to face next randomly, looking at his preferences for each of these.

Well... it is possible though very difficult to run across the carpet, leaping from rug to rug, and then finally jump right past the guard into the throne room while his back is turned.

It is VERY difficult to master of course. Most of the time you get a first alert though. I know everyones ghosting rules are different, though mine are very strict when it comes to alerts, and equipment usage. I don't allow first alerts.

The trouble with this method is I've never made a success jump coming OUT of the throne room. On the way out, stutter-crouch to the carpet... then RUN. It helps to have your sword out and move backwards. It slows you down and thus, makes you quiet.

Both this method and Lytha's method takes a lot of luck. Ghosting Bafford isn't that hard, except for the throne room which is a royal pain in the arse.

What still confuses me is that there is a secret way to get to the room outside the throne but no secret way into the throne room. That's like having a secret passageway to just outside a treasure vault. The point of having a secret passageway is so you can run for it if all of your defenses are breached.

AFAIK The secret entrance can't be used in ghosting because you would have to slash the banner to get in. I remember on some or maybe all levels of ghosting, banner slashing isn't allowed.

But it is possible to "nudge"(is it called this way?) throught the banner without stashing it. Its frouned apon and illegal in strict ghost rules.

hmm I suppose it may be possible to sort of peer behind the banner if you twist yourself a certain way. I've never tried it and if it works it's probably a bug. Sorta like when you "accidentally" manage to lean yourself through a door

The method is called "banner transmigration". I've never tried it myself but a few people are quite expert at it. There's a detailed description of how to do it here , written by Peter Smith.
