Tuesday, June 20, 2000 Another update to the page, and a big one this time. I've added the list of possitons we need filled to the crew page, and added my TODO page, which you can find off of the crew page as well. Anyone interested in this project should check them both out. I also ammended some minor things in the FAQ. Short news update this time, but that's just 'cause I'm busy on other project stuff. Good to know, right? Monday, June 19, 2000 Just thought I'd let you all know that I too have downloaded and played the Deus Ex demo, and, honestly, I haven't been this excited about a game before downloading it since SS2. And after I'd downloaded it, I was not disapointed! Oh no. This game stacks up to all the fun I've had with SS2, Thief, and SS1. Not combind, mind, but it does stack up to them, easily their equal. However, it has something that none of the other's had right out of the bag. Polish. This game has many wonderful gameplay elements, many wonderful things about it that I could compair to the games that have come before it, and some that I did like in the others better (the realtime item management from the SS games, for instance, as well as the general 'everything is in realtime' feel of SS2 that this game lacks, in both the items and hacking setup. I wish they'd gone with overlays for the hacking, honestly). Other than that bitch, and that the lip syncing on the models wasn't absolutely flawless (but it is damn good, and easy to get used to, looks good(just not perfect ;)), I can't say anything bad about it. After having played it twice through, I am hooked. This will be the first game I play on my new AMD Duron based gaming rig I'll be getting later this month (hand built, of course). Though, I must say, there isn't much difference between easy and realistic. I mean, yeah, the enemies don't react so fast, or aren't as tough, but after having gotten used to it on easy, well, realistic wasn't a breeze, but it wasn't as hard as getting used to it in the first place, though twice as fun. And DAMN but the secrets packed into that game rock. Second time through, I must have found 95% of the secrets in those two levels. Btw, there is some cool stuff hidden in the UNATCO HQ, after you've finished the main level. Anyway, why am I rambling on like this? Go get it! It's worth the download, even at 142mb. Oh, and, for the record, I got through realistic without ANY fatalities, took them all out without leathal force (either the traq darts in the crossbow, the tazer thingy, or the peperspray and a baton. Brutal, but leaves them alive ;), and I took out that damn little robot turret. Sneaking in and ambushing people DOES work. Very very well. Saturday, June 17, 2000 Sorry for the lack of updates for the last week or so, I've been poking a proding the person who contacted me, interested in the webmaster possition, so I've not thought to update what is here. Well, I've got a good bit of good news. First, we'll soon have someone else managing the website, so that'll mean regular updates AND me coding full time on the project. Second, for anyone who hasn't yet, GET THE Deus Ex Demo NOW! It is the most impresive game I've seen since SShock, not shocking considering Warren Spector was one of the lead masterminds behind our favorite game. It is a different play experience from SShock, but it definately shows that the Unreal engine can be used for more FPS games than just 'lets blow some stuff up cause its cool' UT, or 'and run and jump and duck and shoot and shoot and shoot' Unreal. Truely an insperation, both in philosophy, and actual design. And the depth of the character interactions are VERY impresive. Monday, June 5th, 2000 (again) The site is back validating again, you learn something new about HTML every day. Or you should, if you work with it any. At any rate, check out this just to make me a liar. Monday, June 5th, 2000 Update number two, and a simple addition of some contact info. Also, I'd really like to find someone who can take over as webmaster for this site, so if you've got experience, please drop me an email, with contact info, and at least one page I can check out as example of your work. Of note, don't bother looking at the source to these pages, they suck, as they are compressed to use less whitespace, but the source documents are what you'd be maintaining anyway. Btw, knowlage of CSS, JavaScript, and Perl will all work in your favor, as will having a copy of O'Reilly's Web Master or Web Design in a nutshell. The less I have to do for this website, the more time I'll have to code UnrealScript.
