Egon Olsen, Danish master thief extraordinaire, had only one fault. He could devise the most brilliant plans to steal from the rich, for which he invariably needed a long list of seemingly pointless items. If things ever went wrong, he had a new plan ready within seconds. But he teamed up with the two most incompetent criminals the world had ever seen. That’s why in the end he would be the one to end up in prison, while his partners in crime went scot-free.

When I was a kid, the Olsenbanden movies were the sole highlight of East German television. They were never shown in West Germany until the 1990’s. I wonder whether Tommyboy and I are the only ones who are aware of these masterpieces of the Danish film industry. I hear Norway had its own Olsenbande.

Did you know that øl (oil) is what they call beer in Scandinavia?

Damn right we call it øl, and Carlsberg is the best ale in the world
Norway still has its own Olsenbanden, but they're not as cool as the Danish ones, of course.
Maybe a Keld and a Benny could add a little humor to Thief...not that it's missing.

Well, it's about time for my nappy, but please keep the thread alive 'cus I'll be back first thing in the morning.
Tommyboy gets into bed, and carefully hides his crate of øl beneath his pillow
'night folks

One last thing: Kyloe, please don't tell me you Germans synchronized the movies. Tell me you just put subtitles on them.

Sorry, Tommy. They are dubbed. And what's more, they were dubbed twice - there's the brilliant (for once) DEFA version, and then there's the new version for the unified audience. The true fan ignores the latter.

In the US we had Magyver, who could make ANYTHING out of a tin can and a bit of chewing gum. This Egon fellah sounds very interesting however, is there an English translation?

We in Sweden have a simmillar version of "The Olsen Gang(?)"
Our name for Egon Olsen is Charles Ingvar Jönsson alias "Sickan"

The movies are called Jönnsonligan, in eng: Joensson Gang

They became a great success here and they are still one hell of a cassic.
(My spelling sux)

I think Macgyver played way too much with his "The little chemist" when he was a child
And no, as far as I know there's no english version of Olsenbanden.
Tommyboy wonders when they'll invent the cinemas so he can see the Olsenbanden movies

Olsen gang, Jönssonligan, öl och McGyver!!! This is my type of thread!

Yeah, and while I'm here, why don't we all start a petition to have LookingGlass make a McGyver computer game!
Come-on, you know you want it!

No no no! Egon is not like McGyver. Sporting a pin-striped suit, a bowler hat, and gaiters, Egon is the gentleman thief par excellance.
He is also very small.
Always tense, Egon only ever relaxes when his fingers close around a bottle of öl, for which he takes out his short, fat cigar. Imagine Edward G. Robinson with a tic.
