You guys are probably aware of this, but searches don't seem to be working atm. I'm getting this error:
Quote:
connection to 127.0.0.1:9312 failed (errno=10061, msg=No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)

I'm glad it's not on my end. Linux has introduced me to all sorts of exotic bugs, so that was my first guess.
Same here, I wanted to find a guide/walkthrough for The Builder's Paradise but I kept getting that error.
Apologies for the delay in getting to this. Our search process had not started up correctly, now fixed.
I'm getting the error again. (I've just tried searching for "shadow bug" in the search field near the top right corner of the page.)
Edit: It looks like it happens regardless of what I search for and which forum/thread I'm browsing.
Thanks for the heads-up, will sort this out later today
Yep. Search error is back. Actually this makes me nostalgic about the old days when the whole site would go down and we would all go to the Eidos forum.
Should be sorted again. Underlying cause looks to be database load and something I'll have to dig into.
Yours is such a thankless job, so for what it's worth... thank you.
You have just demonstrated that it isn't always a thankless job and for that I'm appreciative :)
Aand... unsorted. The same error is back.
The fundamental issue is that the search backend (sphinx) needs to be updated - it's been stable for many years but it is encountering issues with database rotation that appear to be fixed in more recent versions. I imagine the issue with the search failing yesterday was related to a server restart that was required due to an expiration of a letsencrypt root certificate in order to force the web server to point to the correct chain.
As an interim measure I can kick the search process off again if it goes wrong but will find an appropriate time to do the update to the latest version.
yes, please upgrade sphinx as soon as you can. Not being able to search is getting me down. Maybe you'll find some time this weekend? If you need any assistance, I've some experience with the sphinx engine (albeit more than 5 years ago). But I imagine an upgrade should be more-or-less straight-forward. Anyways, thanks for looking into it/fixing it. Keep on taffin'
Thanks for the kind offer - unfortunately the difficulties don't lie with sphinx directly but with the integration with the forum. It's something that I have some time this week to get to and will keep nudging it back into life in the meantime if it's being problematic.
Edit: updated version working well in test environment and plan to roll out next week
