Thanks for the FM Beltzer! It was a blast to play. Very well done! :)
I have tried the DML fixes for performance problems on two machines with low-performance graphics hardware now. One is a machine with an Intel G43/G45 chipset with built-in graphics hardware, the other is a notebook using the Intel processor graphics of an old Core i3-2350M CPU. In both cases, the serious lags that occurred while looking into the streets below vanished almost completely when adding the DML's and restarting the (first) mission. Less serious lags, occurring because of a wide view over the rooftops, did persist, of course, since these have other reasons than performance-eating graphics for particles.
Good job, these DML's!:thumb:
szabikka: Thanks. I'm glad you liked it.
baeuchlein: That sounds very good. They do a great work.
The mission has gone from literally impossible to play for me due to previous performance issues (framerate was so low that mantling utterly failed, the game thought I was letting go of space bar) to normal low framerate in some areas do to my computer being old, as I may get with big missions like this one. Absolute improvement, thank you so much. Will play now.
i have updated the lessparticles dmls. the download link is unchanged.
this update makes the particle density in the street shroud more consistent with the unpatched mission.
previously i had just set all the particle systems have the same (much lower) number of particles, as i just wanted to do something to get framerates up; but Beltzer had given each a number that correlated with the size of the brush for consistent density. my previous patch would therefore look a inconsistent between streets or at street corners. this updated version does a better job of respecting Beltzer's visual design while still performing well. (and i have to say i think the shrouded streets is a great idea!)
baeuchlein or fortuni or whoever is thinking of including them in FMDMLs: please feel free to do so if Beltzer is okay with it, but use the updated version. the dmls do not have a fingerprint in them, because i could not see a reasonable way to target the current version of the mission and not future versions that might have similar adjustments to the particle systems. (oh le corbeau, why could you not just let us use a sha hash of a .mis for fingerprinting...)
Beltzer is happy with the dml's being included in the next FMDML package.
As for Fingerprinting IIRC Jax chooses one goal linked object and 5 other random objects from the mission as fingerprint targets, doing that should mean if there is a further update to the dml the fingerprint will still work. The only need to be change the fingerprint is if the author releases an update having changed the specified goal/related object or deleted one or more or of the random targets.
I found a vault key at the south side then when I teleported to the north side that vault key disappeared ! I found a vault key at the north side but I cannot complete the optional goal of finding two vault keys. What happened?
Fantastic Mission Beltzer! totally agree with the eye candy and rooftop highways! Thank you for taking the time and effort for all of us to enjoy! Could I have a more direct hint for the 2 vault keys in Mission 2?
I found vault key #4 at the north side. Vault key #3 at that spooky house on the south side.
At the basement of that Mechanist lady's apartment there was the fireplace which turns into a portal using the Mechanist gear symbol. That's what teleported me to the north side for start of mission 2. Also, before I found vault key #4, I managed to get to the bank vault using that air shaft and window but there was a note at the vault that said everything was removed as evidence and the 4 sub vault doors cannot be frobbed.
I will return to that bank vault and test vault key #4 to see if it works...lol. I hope it does otherwise what would be the point of looking for these keys?
And I hope I can find the second vault key at the north side as Beltzer said there was.
Looks like vault key #4 works. Now to look for that other key and I am all done after getting 5000 loot.
Any hints as to where the other bank vault key is in mission 2 ?
I have key#4.
Cool, thanks! Can you change the description of it from "DML's that makes the particle density in the street shroud more consistent" to "DML's that improves performance on low end hardware" since i think that communicates better what it is for to the people who need it.
Nice! Thank you so much fortuni!
Patrik, the light edges are not sharped, what what build dlg settings are you using? I usually use these settings:

OMG. Maybe that's why i thought the lightning looked like shit. I never knew about those settings :( I feel like a big noob.
I'll try to change it and see how it looks.
I had these settings. Not good.

Mission finished, had a nice experience with this one, interesting change of pace , had fun with the gameplay, exploring the different areas and the story, my favorite part the cursed house
Thank you !
I'm stuck in Mission 2 searching for the Hammerite Gate key, which according to the walkthrough is on Priest Tricco's bookcase, in the same room where you place the evidence on his desk, if I'm not mistaken. I have searched high and low to no avail. Please help!
Let's do these questions in LIFO manner.:p
The pillar can be used to get across the chasm behind it, if you find something that bridges the gap. That something is a ladder which you find in the haunted house.
The library room can be accessed, although I am not exactly sure how this was done. I think there might be something behind a mirror that helps you, but to get to that, you may have to find a photo of the mirror first. There was also something that needed to be opened with the help of a combination lock, if the mirror thingy does not open this gate. If so, then the combination must be obtained first... and it is not in the museum.:sly:
The room where the window apparently closed: Is it one of the rooms of a house that definitely looks weird and haunted? If not, can you describe the location of this room a bit more in detail, for I do not remember it at the moment?
if i remember that room correctly, the open window you entered through was behind one of the curtains. just try leaning through each of them until you find it again (yeah, it confused me too).
you need to start by opening the chest in the library with the combination lock. the library workers probably know more about it. the code can be found in library worker's apartment to the west. you may have already picked it up and been carrying it without realising it.Quote:
something that would help you cross the gap. you will know it when you find it. (if you need guidance, look in the haunted apartment).Quote:
The buttons are not in the office, but in the entrance room of the vault. They should be easily visible.
To clarify: my problem is NOT finding the buttons, it's that I don't know what number to enter with the buttons. And Galaer's and Samantha1's earlier posts suggest that the numbers are hidden somewhere in the office. I'm asking for help with finding the numbers.
Arrowgrab, I assume you already found the switch under the desk in the office? If not, frob the switch under the desk. It will reveal another switch on the wall in the office. Then turn this switch and the vault code will be revealed. The numbers are written in an unusual writing, not the usual writing you see in thief. The numbers are directly next to the bookcase, on the left side of the bookcase. Stand sidewards towards the boockase, very very close to it and you should see the numbers. For help you can always use your zoom function aswell :)
Thanks for the details. I've actually found those switches before, but couldn't find the numbers that were revealed. For anyone else having problems with this part in the future: the "office" referred to here is NOT the big room on the top floor with eight desks that actually says "OFFICE" on a sign by the door. It's the bank director's office on the middle floor.
Thanks everyone. I managed to find my way out of the room after enough mantling around, got into the haunted apartment and found the ladder. Still exploring.
I also eventually made it into the clocktower after much grief (looks like the author REALLY doesn't want us going there, the trek across the glass walkway took me half hour to finally make it without the glass spontaneously breaking). For anyone wondering, there's ladders going up all the way to the top, but nothing else. Nice view though
We're long time Thief players - we get everywhere.:ebil:
I am stuck in mission 1. I cannot seem to find my way to the bank! I am searching for a few hours now using the map and always return to the same places. Please tell me,where should I go?
Alsospoiler:I didn't find Vault key#2,location please?I found the other 2
AFAIK, the bank is located to the northwest of the building in which the mission starts. To go there, you can first jump over the gap between the southwest corner of this "starter building" in the direction of the house to the south. Archers should be patrolling there.
Now, work your way to the west until you reach the library. Once there, go to the north end of the roof before the library. You should be able to jump onto a slanted roof there. Go to the chimney on the roof and examine the upper edge of the wall of the building to the west. There should be something wooden there which is ideal for a rope arrow. Shoot one, then jump at the rope and climb up. Be careful when mantling over the edge, as there is a guard up there. When he has passed by, mantle onto the roof, give the guard a standard blackjack greeting on the back of his head:ebil:, and proceed to the north end of the roof area.
You should be able to jump at the corner of another slanted roof. Climb up onto the wall that serves as a railing here and try to jump somewhat diagonally at the roof's southeastern corner, then mantle up. This can be a bit tricky. Once you're up there, the bank should be the building to the north of this roof, and you should be able to jump and mantle onto a ledge on the wall.
A partially open window to the east of where you climb up should attract any thief, especially since it's the way into the bank and its riches. Save your game before trying to climb into the window, as it may happen that you are somehow propelled into the air by some kind of bug, and once you hit the ground again, Garrett will either be dead or in need of some emergency medical service.
I am in mission 2. I finished mission 1 by going to the mechanists throughspoiler:the teleporter near Brigantia's apartment. I didn't put the ladder on the pillar.
Do I need to go back and put it? Do i need to cross over there on mission 2?
If you successfully complete mission 1, there is no need to go back for the ladder, as it will have vanished in mission 2 anyway, and an alternative route out of the Mechanist area is what you will get instead.
Ok so I am just finishing up mission 2,all I have to do isspoiler:bring Piran to the jail alive because I get sad killing anybody :( .I did everything right, when it's time to put him to bed and he lays perfectly fine, the objective doesn't tick off. So i said alright I will reload a previous save just before the cell just to kill him but my weapons don't work, They appear in the inventory but i cannot use them. So I ended up reloading a previous previous save where I just got in the jail, just so I could kill him and proceed.I tried everything at least 30 times
Anyone else had this problem?
To accomplish the objective of putting Piran in the cell alive, you might have to bring him into the cell without being seen by the guards before accomplishing the objective. It may also be necessary to lock the cell door again after dropping Piran onto the bed, as Beltzer wrote. When you walk away from Piran's new home towards the way you came in, a conversation with a guard should start automatically. If it doesn't, something went wrong.
Thank you both,I would have never thought of that. But I alreadyspoiler:blackjacked the guards in jail.So I can't trigger their conversation.Do they give a new objective?Should I go back?
So I'm at the Lord's office and I can't find his bank vault key. Any hints?
Look in the bedroom above the clock.
