Welcome to the TTLG forums.
The discussion forums at Through the Looking Glass are where the entire TTLG Community, from Taffers to Shocklings to everyone else, congregates. We host forums for discussion of the Thief, System Shock, & Deus Ex series, as well as various other games that capture our eye, such as BioShock, Dark Messiah and Oblivion. We also offer general gaming, off-topic discussion, technical support, and hosted project forums (such as Thievery UT, T2x, and The Cassandra Project).
First and foremost, TTLG is a community. And although we run a relatively looser rule structure than many other discussion forums, there are certain rules which we enforce in order to provide the most enjoyable atmosphere that we can.
Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our posting regulations, and understand that we also rely on YOU to help us keep this community friendly and enjoyable. This means that not only do the rest of the members expect you to follow these guidelines in your own posts, the administrators and moderators should be contacted via email or private message if you feel that another member's post has violated these rules to such a degree that you would like to bring it to our attention.
All reported posts will be judged without prejudice.
Posting Regulations
No Pornographic or Sexual Material.
Any sexually oriented imagery or links to such content will not be tolerated. Additionally, sexually explicit discussions are not acceptable to our community.
No Profanity in Thread Titles.
While it is obvious that we adopt a fairly easy stance on the use of "profane" language in posts, we do ask that the titles of threads contain no foul language. Moderators of individual boards may also allow or disallow profanity as they see fit, and their decisions are final.
No Warez, Illegal Software or Scans of Copyrighted Material.
This includes linking to, posting about, requesting, and suggesting ways of obtaining illegal software and/or other copyrighted materials such as scans of magazine articles. Posting such information may also result in your posting privileges being revoked. Furthermore, we will not tolerate postings that encourage people to violate copy protection by referring them to sites that have copy protection codes publicized (including No-CD Cracks) and/or illegal software. Any such post will be removed from our forums and your membership and posting privileges will be revoked as soon as we find the offensive post.
No FAO (for the attention of) posts.
You will refrain from having personal discussions or "for the attention of" post with other board members. Please use the Private Message feature of the board, ICQ, or email for this purpose.
No Impersonations.
Do not attempt to impersonate other forum members, and forum moderators/administrators. Such an attempt will not be successful and it is an offense that will get you banned from the forums -no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Out of courtesy to other forum users and moderators we expect you to use only one username on our forums. Please do not post email addresses, standard addresses, ICQ and other messaging client numbers, or phone numbers which are not your own.
One account per user, please.
Please do not register multiple accounts. Whether they are created for the purposes of trolling, arguing with yourself, or supporting your own arguments, using alternate nicknames and accounts is considered to be spamming and / or trolling, depending on circumstances.
No Abusive Behaviour.
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this Forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, abusive, hateful, harassing, obscene, sexually explicit, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. Hate speech is not tolerated. We will not tolerate abuse upon another member.
No Advertising or Promotions.
Unsolicited commercial posts including advertising, promotional materials, chain letters, pyramid schemes or similar will not be tolerated and may result in immediate termination of your account. Members are permitted to share links to commercial items of interest to other members (e.g. games / music) but posts of this nature must be legal and are at the discretion of the moderation team.
Posting Images in Threads.
Our bulletin boards have been set to allow a maximum of eight (8) images per post. This includes emoticons. Screenshots, photographs, and other images that you want to embed in your post must be no wider than 800 pixels. Larger images will be deleted, resized, or changed to a link.
Posting HTML in Threads.
While you are allowed to use HTML in posts, this is a privilege that will be revoked if it is abused. Do not use any codes that alter the way the forums pages are displayed, or that affect other's browsers in any way. Any code which modifies or changes the appearance of any element of the page outside of the post in which it is made will be deleted and the user's account banned. Embedded media files must be set to NOT autoplay, and must be reasonably sized (under 500K).
No Off-Topic Postings.
Posts in a particular forum need to stay on topic (i.e. about the game specifically). If you want to talk about something that is drastically removed from the topic of a forum, please take it to Community Chat. Community Chat was set up and designed for members to discuss issues not related to a specific game title. We welcome most general conversation in the Community Chat, but discourage it from the game forums.
Signatures
Registered members are allowed to append signatures to their posts, TTLG asks that you keep your signatures to a maximum of 3 lines or 150 characters (including spaces), whichever is smaller. The administrators may remove any signature that is too large. We also ask that you use this feature conservatively, with respect for other members. For example if your post content is smaller than your signature, do not use it. Also, it is not necessary to add your signature more than once per thread.
Administration and forum leaders will have final determination as to what is appropriate.
No Spamming
Spamming is characterized by the initiation of threads or posts that contribute nothing to a forum, be it off topic or on topic. Examples include: empty bodies, bodies with few words that have no relation to the current thread or discussion and those posts that state they are Spam, either to annoy or increase a member's post count. This determination is made by the forum Moderator or Administrator and is not up for discussion.
Additionally, posting sequential replies in the same thread is usually considered a variant of spamming. Please use the Edit feature to amend the original post to include new information or comment rather than submitting a reply immediately after your previous post.
Spammers And You
Please don't reply to obvious spam threads. Doing so only encourages them, as activity in a spam thread is like chumming the Internet waters -- it directs them to TTLG and that's not what we want at all.
To this end, and to help you remember, we shall be handing out temporary bans of between one and three days to anyone who replies to such threads. We need you to report them, not encourage them.
If a member feels that these rules have been violated, they are encouraged to report the offensive post to a moderator or administrator via Private Message or email for review.
Our forums are moderated and moderators hold the right of closing or deleting a thread they feel is inappropriate. Once a topic is closed, members are not allowed to start new ones with the same topic or to question why a specific thread has been closed. All questions or remarks regarding closed or deleted threads must be e-mailed privately to the moderator who performed this action. Further any discussion of these rules is to be held through the Administrators or Moderators, via e-mail, and not on the forums themselves.
If you do not like these guidelines, please don't post. If you break these rules, we reserve the right to revoke your posting privileges. Remember, posting here is a privilege and not a right.
If your posting privileges have been revoked and you have questions about why, or what you might be able to do to restore them (this is not possible in all cases), please email the Forums Administrators.
TTLG takes no responsibility for the content, links to or use of the content of the messages posted on this board, nor do we endorse the opinions of the authors. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Through the Looking Glass and their agents with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s).
We at TTLG reserve the right to delete any message for any or no reason whatsoever.
Message boards are a dynamic entity, and TTLG reserves the right to change or alter these rules at any time. An Administrator's word is final.
TTLG reserves the right to publish forum post content (in whole or in part, and with appropriate credit to the original author) on any or all of TTLG's associated sites.
TTLG reserves the right to alter these rules without prior notice.
