You sure convinced me!
The only video we have of a playable PC version is so grainy as to be useless. Then the talk of XBOX only plasmid powers. Then they release a demo for the XBOX 360 only. What about us PC users who want to know if the game will even run at a playable framerate? Oh yeah, they're hoping we'll buy it and be stuck with it.
You sure convinced me!
I have to agree. The press has mainly been about the 360 version. Almost all the videos have been of the 360 version, and the couple of PC videos we get are small and grainy. No in-game PC screenshots or DX9 vs. DX10 comparisons. Perks oriented toward 360 owners. No achievements on the PC version (not like I care, but for those who do). Rumors of exclusive plasmids for the 360. And now the final straw, no demo for the PC until later this month (read: after the game is released), but 360 owners get it now.
It really does seem 2K wants to alienate people who are interested in the PC version of Bioshock.
More like Microsoft wanting to maintain its territory in the console wars, really. MS has a pretty solid lock on PC gaming, they know BioShock will sell itself to people like me. The console war is another thing entirely. Especially since BioShock is supposed to be a more sophisticated and flexible game than most console gamers are familiar with. It's all seemed mostly to grab and maintain the interest of the 360 gamers, and possibly win some converts in the process.
That's what I figure, anyway. It's what I'd do.
Im really debating in touching this game now. If all the quality will go to the version I dont have a console for, why should I even bother?
What really gets me is the game was completed on the PC and it was only the 360 version that held up release because they wanted both versions to be released "simultaneously". Then they go and pull this. They just lost a lot of my respect.
Actually, the developers themselves have said that it was quite the opposite - they spent more time bugfixing and polishing the 360 version because of the rigorous testing and QA Microsoft requires for 360 titles.
In a way, that actually helps your overall argument though.
so disappointed...![]()
hey guys,
i'm sorry that i can't give you more concrete news right now, but i want to tell you that a PC demo is in the works and everyone is diligently trying to get it into your hands. tomorrow i'll have more details on what's up with that version.
As if it's unusual for PC gamers to get shafted.
Somehow I thought Irrational... sorry... "2k Boston" would be different from all the other AAA developers, but they're really not. There's too much politics, marketing, and corporate seediness going on these days in the gaming industry. I guess that's why I'm playing more and more indie games.
/derail thread
Very disappointed in you, but then again, what can you do when you're Microsoft's bitch?
I think the assumptions of the pc version being inferior are without justification. Haven't you seen the PC Gamer reviews? Anyway, I agree the Xbox is getting a demo simply because of the mass market, and people who are going to buy it for the PC have pretty much made up their mind.
x number of people who own a PC who can play it versus 100% of xboxers who can play it.Which one would you want to hype?
Follow the money sonny. At least we have simultaneous release. It's only nine days away anyhow.
Yeah, that's more what I'm saying. I don't believe that quality or care was compromised in a PC version, I'm saying the hype and media releases are geared to MS taking care of its business in the console arena over the PC end of things.
I highly doubt Irrational (I refuse to call them 2K:Boston) deliberately sat down and said "How can we mercilessly shaft the PC crowd? I know! We'll release the X-Box demo first just to piss them off!!"
I'm sure they're working as hard as they can to get the PC demo out to us, and I await Elizabeth's response tomorrow.
Ya know, I've defended PC gaming for years from people who try and say "PC gaming is dead" and all that jazz. And up until recently, I really believed that while PC gaming wasn't gaining nearly as much ground as console gaming, it was still alive and kicking.
But when more and more developers, especially long time PC developers, decide to screw over their more devoted fan base for more cash, I really am now starting to see the decline in PC gaming.
Thanks Irrational, I hope you really enjoy that extra money in your pockets.
I think you're overreacting quite a bit from a demo release
The game itself will be released at the same date as the Xbox360, and we know that the australian office of Irrational put a lot of effort into the PC version. They could have done a quick port, but didn't.
they already gave us the middle finger by developing the game for the console in mind. its called denial.
im in the later stages
I doubt this had anything to do with The Developer Formerly Known as Irrational. This is typical Take Two/2K console-fisting behavior, and only days after the official announcement that Irrational is no longer a unique developer, but rather just another 2K minion. The Sunday Surprise turned out to be a delightful middle finger from 2K Games to PC gamers.
I don't think he's overreacting. Sure the game will have a simultaneous release, that's not the issue. The issue is many PC gamers would like to see how it actually runs on their rig so they can know if they need to upgrade before the game hits the shelves. The XBOXers already know it's going to run sweet or it wouldn't have already gotten so many 95% plus XBOX 360 reviews.
How about we all just suppress the, if you'll pardon the pun, irrational nerd-rage over this and wait to hear what Elizabeth has to say about this tomorrow?
You'd think they'd flat out cancelled the PC version with the way some people are reacting here. I know everyone here is hungry to get their hot little hands on this game, but it's just 9 days away from release, and this is JUST A DEMO!!!
Well, I think getting PC fans worked up unnecessarily was an unfortunate decision on Irrational/2K's part. But I suppose they had limited time for putting any demo material together, chose the broader audience, and figured that the PC base was going to lambaste them for it no matter what.
I'm not incensed, but somewhat irked by the decision. I wish they could have been upfront about the "No PC" part. Hopefully we'll know more soon.
That was not fucking cool... I seriously can not understand how they can overlook the PC crowd like this? The marketing drones could've at least mentioned that this is an XBox360 related surprise so that PC users can get on with thier lives instead of waiting to hear that they will have to wait to play a demo that their XBox brethren are playing right now.
I guess PC users are just a speck of the market share, so fuck them up their stupid asses right?
Ken Levine just posted about the PC demo on the 2K forums.
Guys, the PC demo is simply not ready. The pc development was always a bit behind because we had more time to finish things (no submission to MS). The PC game will therefore have a bit more polish (and a couple more features like turning off loot highlight options) that 360 doesn't have.
It'll be out as soon as possible.
I thanked Ken over on the official forum, and I don't hold Irrational (hear that 2K? Irrational!) responsible whatsoever. This is a 2K cock-up. Like Claws said, they could have pointed out this was yet another 360 exclusive and spared the rest of us. There were some people in Europe staying up late to hear the "big announcement", only to find it out it was "No PC demo for you!" and they'd wasted their time.
