T2 FM: The Seven Shades of Mercury (Hammerite Imperium #1) - 20 May 2009

After many years of off and on work by a very talented team, followed by about a year of off and on work by a small group of folks dedicated to getting the first mission released to the public, I'm very pleased to announce that the first mission of the Hammerite Imperium project is now available!

Perhaps they evolved into giant moths or were eaten by slugs. We’ll never know, but nevertheless I’d like to thank everyone involved for their grand contribution - for without the hard work and immense collaboration this monster would never see daylight.

We sincerely hope that you'll enjoy this first (and sadly also last) mission of what was to become the Hammerite Imperium. May the builder be with you!

Redface of Southquarter has graciously made a home page for the mission, here.

There are two versions, with movies (187MB) and without (94MB). The size difference is immense because there are four amazing movies, and all are encoded using Indeo, the codec used by LGS (to insure that most players will be able to see the movies) and Indeo's compression rate is poor by today's standards. They're much too good not to be enjoyed by all, so I encourage everyone to wait patiently for the larger archive to download. Versions of the movies with modern encoding will be made available shortly online, and perhaps for download as well.

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to create such an amazing work of art! We hope you enjoy it!

Note: Mission updated to v1.1 on 23 May 2009.
The links below will be updated as soon as each mirror site makes them available.

    Mirrors
    Full version with movies (187MB)
    Southquarter (v1.0)
    Thiefmissions (v1.1)
    Darklurker.com (v1.1)
    Darklurker.org (v1.1)
    The Circle (v1.1)

    No movies version (94MB)
    Shalebridge (v1.0)
    Thiefmissions (v1.1)
    Darklurker.com (v1.1)
    Darklurker.org (v1.1)
    The Circle (v1.1)

If you downloaded v1.0 and want to patch it to v1.1, you can use this patch:
    Thiefmissions
    Darklurker.com
    Darklurker.org
    The Circle
Installation instructions for the patch are included in the patch readme file.

    Version 1.1 Change Info
All these changes are present in the patch and both updated ZIP files:
    • The broken final secret is now accessible.
    • The spell scrolls, which were all originally in the Grand Library, were not of much use since many people go to that location last. They have been relocated.
    • Additionally, the Hammer Spell scrolls, which killed AI and failed the No Kill objective, were thus useless. They now knockout AI, except for those AI which are impervious to knockout.
    • Finally, the ice bombs have been removed as they were causing too many problems.

These additional changes are only included in the updated ZIP files:
    • About 10 book texts had formatting issues and are now fixed.
    • Tannar was added to the credits in the readme.

Might I add that this is freaking awesome? I've been playing it for a couple of hours now and it feels like I've only scratched the surface. The views both inside and outside of the cathedral are terribly impressive.

I'd just like to point out that this is a really hard mission, with tons of tiled surface and unforgiving enemies, so don't waste your resources too early. It's a long way to go

I've had the pleasure of betatesting this and all I can say is that you will find it was well worth the wait! Make sure you give yourself plenty of time because it's huge and fascinating! Congratulations to the whole team on the release.

I looked 30 minutes for those rope arrows! What a terrible place to put them! (I first thought I would enter an area that was not meant to be entered, but no!)

Congratulations on the hard work and stamina to finish this release.

    However, I have a comment.

Why is black always bad? I believe that fiction's unyielding commitment to equate evil deeds with the color "black" affects people's subconscious. Eventually they end up holding negative feelings towards people of color.

Oh Well, The other five colors are also bad this time. I see your point, but here, in the world of Thief, black is most of the time good - just look at Garrett.

MrMP: Those movies may only be posted online, but even if they are released for download it will be as a standalone package, not in a new version of the mission ZIP with the movies in that format. So you may as well play the mission with the Indeo movies.

Elkston: I understand, but in this case Rocksbourg 3 is right. All the other six colours are equally bad.

Boy, I don't know about anyone else, and I am not sure why its doing this. I've just started, and I'm in the water. I found a water arrow underneath, as soon as I frob the arrow to pick it up. The game freezes. Going back in again.....

Any arrows I try to pick up, I crash, just tried a moss arrow, samething. I've disabled and enabled the EP pack, no luck there. Anyone have a clue to what I can do, I'd appreciate it, I can't play it. I need some weapons.
