BioShock 2 delayed 'til "fiscal 2010"

Looks like four studios isn't enough, the game won't be ready this fall.

While the game was previously slated to hit European store shelves on October 30, 2009, just squeezing into the company's fiscal 2009, the company has now moved the title to a more vague "fiscal year 2010." The sequel was expected to arrive on these shores November 3rd, a few days after its ship date in Europe.

Now, BioShock 2 could be pushed well into calendar 2010, missing the holidays completely.

Officially, Take-Two blames the delay on the need to "provide additional development time for the title."

Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of Take-Two called the delay "the right decision for the product," but calls the impact on its revised financial outlook a "disappointment."

"The decision to shift a release date is never an easy one, especially with a product as highly anticipated as BioShock 2," Take-Two CEO Ben Feder said in a financial release. "We felt that it was essential to invest the additional time to ensure that this title will deliver what its fans expect and deserve."

That's good news, actually. More time for development and testing, and maybe making it look more sequel-ly than what those gameplay videos make it out to be -- which is an overblown expansion pack.

Go ahead. I'm patient. Maybe this way I'll be done with school before it comes out and will actually have time to play it.

So we asked 2K to clarify and clarify they did:

“We expect the title to ship in the first half of 2010.”

So, there you are. BioShock 2 won’t be out this year. But it will be out sometime between Jan 1, 2010, and Jun 30, 2010.

this just in: CliffyB replaces ThomasJordan as the lead of the bioshock2 project. Expect more chainsaws, gruffy, male voiceovers and some serious ass-kicking rpg shit built into your favorite FPS. Like weapons and ammo upgrades or abilities like rocketjump and instagib.

CliffyB doesn't care what internet folks think of him, because he baths in a fucking loathshit of money.

The delay is probably a good thing, so that now they can ditch all levels and let Arkane design the whole game.

If CliffyB didn't care what internet folks called him, he wouldn't be pissed about being called CliffyB. Ken Levine on the other hand likes being called Vulgar Baboon.

He didn't. He was just moaning about how he didn't want to be called "CliffyB" anymore saying it was immature and he'd grown up or something and some guy at Kotaku came up with "Dude Huge".

Probably delayed so cliffyb/dude huge can add his version of rpg elements into the game. Maybe he'll do something usefull like get rid of the 'bring you back to life chambers', never used them in the first game, if I died I just reloaded a save, you could tell when an in game attack event was going to happen so I always saved just before they hit.

Do you guys do realise that the comment about CliffyB taking over design duties on Bioshock 2 was a joke, right?

Lot of slow thinkers in this thread it seems.

CliffyB is working for Epic, not 2K. Get over yourselves.

I'd actually like to see CliffyB taking over the project. Right now Bioshock 2 looks exactly the same as Bioshock, and I don't know how to feel about it.

... or chumpface. Which, you have to admit, is pretty awesome.
