    Thief 3 stealth attack issues.

From what I am playing so far in thief 3, it seems like you cannot blackjack/stab people unless your close enough behind them to raise your arm arm. If it is not, then they tank the hit. Problem is Garret will lower his arm at times. Other times he wont raise his arm to attack at all. They just take the hit instead of going down.

Also, Garrett will not raise his arm to blackjack/stab people if they are looking for you or investigating a noise. So you have to wait for them to chill out before the game allows Garrett to raise his arm and strike.

Also, you cannot blackjack to death anybody who is aware of you. In the last games, it took 20 wacks, but they eventually go down, which was good because you at least had an option to silence that person if you were caught. Now, you either have to knife them dead, or try running and hiding. No chance to incapacitate them until they cool down.

Last, getting up close behind people who are walking when you are crouched seems to be impractical, as your crouch walk speed seems to be the same as their walk speed. So to get up close and knock them out before they turn around, I have to compensate with standing up and running for part of it, which results in them sometimes hearing and turning around. Would the game get too easy if I adjusted the speed?

Am I wrong about these things? Are these modifications to the game with sneaky upgrade patch? Do I just suck, and need to adjust to the games mechanics? Need help.

You might want to post these questions directly to the Sneaky Upgrade patch thread. Much more likely to get noticed there by the people who can best answer your question.

Alright. I posted it here because this is a Thief forum where people played Thief 3, but ill try there also. Any input you can give?

It's been so long since I've played TDS, so it's hard to say for me personally. But obviously the people who created Sneaky Upgrade would know if the things you mentioned were part of their mod or not. I wasn't under the impression though that the base gameplay was changed at all, but I could be wrong about that.

I posted over there, so ill just wait until some assistance comes. But looking at the posts and dates, it doesn't look like some peoples questions about the mod are answered for a while, if at all.

That's because some of us are busy with Christmas stuff.

The only thing, AFAIK, that will change the things you mention is the Gameplay part of the Minimalist Project mod, which intentionally makes things harder.

There's one more difference, actually, but it's considered a bugfix: If you're playing the proper missions on Hard or Expert, then that difficulty setting is carried over to the City sections. In the unpatched game all those segments are played on Normal difficulty. So the City is harder in the patched version. There's an option to disable this behaviour but I think you need to edit SneakyUpgrade.ini to change it.

The 'random' lowering might be if they go to their first level alert, which in T3 means they usually stop and pause for a second (and grumble about hearing something) before continuing.

So i really cannot knock out/kill if they even wonder if they heard something?

I read that full version of Sneaky Upgrade contains Minimalist Patch and one of the things it changes is enhancement of AI sensitivity. This may be the reason why you have so much problem.

Yeah, but if you also stop dead still they'll relax after a second or so (they won't look over their shoulders unless they go to a higher alert), then you can whack 'em. You can tell they're relaxing if they say something to that effect, shrug their shoulders/stretch, or start walking again.

    That's been my experience anyway.
