It's weird how little attention it feels like this is getting, especially here. I mean, Neurath basically rebooting LGS and making a new Underworld game? Heads should be exploding.

Underworld Ascension: The game that took 20 years to sign

Awwwwww.The studio's name is a play on Looking Glass - the legendary studio responsible for making games such as Thief and System Shock and Ultima Underworld - because the other side is what you get to when you go through it.
It is so early, but it is also hard not to get enthusiastic about the project. It seems their heart is in its right place.
Thanks for sharing, Brethren.
Well I think they are, particularly with the old fans of the game. The appearance of muted enthusiasm is probably affected to some degree by the fact that, 1) there is very little information out about this game at this present time and, 2) there has actually been decline of forum activity anyway over the past few weeks (from what I'm told that usually happens around this time of the year).
In saying that, I know how you feel. I keep coming back here hoping for a new topic or two to pop up but I think that this forum will continue to be fairly quiet around here until we start hearing more about the game. It's very early days after all.
Exactly. The game is basically just an idea at this point. I'm watching their forum like a hawk, though, and keeping an eye out for any news about the studio and the game.
Also, I'm trying to not get my hopes up too much. There have been too many disappointments over the past decade.
Given that Ultima isn't part of the license, I'm entirely unclear on why he needed permission for anything from EA. They don't have a copyright on first-person dungeon crawlers. Seems like a lot of trouble just to get the right to call it "Underworld".
Yeah, I was a little confused on that point myself. But as I wasn't expecting this to ever happen, I'm not really bothered by the reasoning behind it. It's just a very nice surprise, as far as I'm concerned :)
My best guess is that they want to keep some fairly recognisable aspects of the gameplay (such as the runic magic); and maybe there was a genuine case for legal action if the game bore too much similarity to its predecessors.
Wow, that's a bit of a reach.
Anyway, regardless of TTLGs input on the new project, a few of us have been supporting them on their official otherside forums... Hopefully, one day, with a lot of praying, we can only hope that the amazing denizens of the almighty TTLG will pick up the interest and then it shall flourish!
